Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

I got me an N7 Slayer, who kind of looks like the English butler of the N7 Operatives. Who's to say you can't kick ass in a coat and tails though? Not the Shadow I wanted, but I'll give him a shot.
wow...when you get a new character card you get enough exp to go from lvl 1 > 8.
I seriously think you might be the first guy to get up to a Valiant X.

i got a fuckin ammo upgrade in my pack since i had all characters... 8 packs later... black widow III and all the rest ammo and powers.... gettin pissed.

What a night!!! First, from my packs I unlocked the N7 Paladin and the Hurricane IV (I just don't like that SMG). I played a round of Silver with my pal Simosaurus before our crew logged off, so I jumped into a random game. I got into a lobby with a group doing platinum. I've never attempted platinum, so I thought, why not? This was my first impression:
Holy_c27dc2_844327.jpg
Long story short....that shit was intense with the full cadre of enemy heavy hitters flooding in, but we got a full extraction on Platinum with randoms!!!! Woo-Freaking-Hoo! Then we did another round and got to wave 10 (got the creds, heh). And this is how I strolled off.....

From the 300K credits I raked in, I ended up getting a Reager upgrade, the N7 Slayer, and a Widow upgrade along with the warfighter package gear.

All in all, a kick ass night for me as a platinum extraction was the only thing I had left to do in the game and it was a good haul from the PSP's. About damn time.

Man, completely forgot how good it feels to be behind the scope again. Haven't played my Infiltrator in ages (not much after the large TC nerf), but it feels great. And like home.

Damn these Earth classes being so much fun. Almost made me forget about my Salarian Infiltrator. Almost.

Fun night. After a rough first go-round with the Slayer (man, he's fragile), I got the hang of it and then was able to totally dominate Cerberus on Silver. Such a good feeling to decapitate 4 Nemesis (Nemesi?) in one wave.

And, Chubby, congrats on Platinum. I haven't braved those waters yet, but now I feel like I should.

here's to hope.

I feel you, man. Between the N7 classes and my love for shotgun infiltrating, I find myself forgetting how to snipe every now and then. Hopefully that Saber headshotting will help me save face when I get back to it.

you know, i think for the most part we're all big ME fans but the kid that got an N7 tattoo'd to his wrist and not even that great a job...idk. I love boobs but I wouldn't tattoo that on my body nahmsayin? (see ME3 FB page)

The other nice thing is that with the Earth classes, I get downed more and use medi-gels more often. With the SR Infiltrator, I rarely get downed. This is especially nice since my stockpile of medi-gels was running somewhat low (high 70s).

Though, you're right, that tat doesn't look that great. Plus, that's an easy one to get a tat for.

How about a back-sized tat of Tali?

sigh. ok did 2 golds, 3 silvers, 2 bronze.... got 3 premiums... les just say i have about 25 ammo IV's and 13 Cyclonic IV and 11 Power Amp IV's.... really?

played with a guy with Scorpion X and Harrier X... daaaang.

Positive Notes: Krogan Vanguard, Stronghold V, Cyclonic IV = unkillable outside sneaky one shots and Banshee glitches.

Negative Notes: Paladin is still unable to become a game changer, ok to have around, but with all powers on the same cooldown, it makes the stage 6 evolutions on snap freeze and incinerate work in theory... but with a cooldown at a in of 2.47 sec, one that can only reach 15m max and the other that is a fired power, the ranges for this character are all over. Gettin in close and using melee with the cryo shield then blasting incinerate with +110% to chilled/frozen targets is handy but a biotic/electric slash or multi frag dispatches in an area and to more frequent and greater effect. I have tried 4 different approaches and respecs for this guy and really want to like him but they tried to make him too much combo and too many ranges. I think they in theory thought him to be an all range fighter but it simply is not the case. You can focus on two abilities then lose the insta shield recharge on drain, or focus weapons and make him just an added gun with some bonus effects. If you make him a jack of all trades he gets lost and underpowered compared to more focused class builds.

With no ability to direct height on the shield, move with it (although guardians can), or shoot/reload from it, it can often be more detrimental than helpful... and that sucks.

Chalk the Paladin up to a "missed opportunity" on BioWare's part. Don't expect a fix/change for him anytime soon; this week's balance changes have come and gone. Same with the Ex-Wife on the N7 Destroyer. Still a PoS. They should really just remove the shield penalty. Or scrap it altogether.
Paladin isn't too bad if you spec for cryo shield and snap freeze. Debuffs the shit outta enemies.

This video details it pretty well (Admittedly, he's using the Piranha, but he demonstrates the debuffs well.)

Good video. Learned a lot from that. I guess I just expected the Paladin's shield to be better than they made it. I mean, the way the guy played the Paladin, it's really just a Sentinel with Snap Freeze. Like Snap Freeze is his signature ability, not the shield. Which is kind of sad, if you think about it.

yeah i have gone through all of this, and personally think my current build is better than this, but yeah they tried for too many things and didn't tie any of his features together. So far, the ONLY combos of his that works quick enough to be effective is Cryo Shield Melee, then Incinerate for 110% damage effectively making it a 1300 single target hit. Then you have Snap Freeze.. and shoot stuff.

This guy never uses the shield for blocking anything lol, you can stop Brute charges completely on any level. He pretty much displays the Pirahna with Paladin Debuffs... he is funny to listen too though. Side note, i CAN see the Pally being more useful in higher difficulties straight for boss killin

I can see Steve-O getting a back sized tat of Tali, if he had room that is.

an N7 tat imo would be great if it were small. like the size of a postage stamp not an iPhone on your wrist.

I'm sure this has been in the works since before the game was released, but still, you almost have to laugh. Is there anything Mass Effect fans want to do less right now than "learn more about the origins of the Reapers"?!

i laugh at the guy's comment, "Mike Hunt" that name says it all. he should start his own lobbies if he's getting the boot for having 100 N7 rating.

I definitely want to know more about the origin of the Reapers!! But that announcement was weak. They didn't tell us shit and that's what frustrates me to no end. Not even a new screenshot? New squad character? Nothing? That's crap.

Why would this, or what we know of this, dlc make us feel bad for the Reapers? I don't get that vibe at all. I offed their sorry robot asses in my playthrough, at the expense of some allies......no sympathy here!

You mean Gurren Lagaan? Yeah, that would've been a LOT better.

Better than the used condom they originally gave us. With the EC, it's more like used toilet paper.

God damn it, every time I read the description of DLC it just ruins it for me (From Ashes). Well looking forward to it though. Here's hoping the gun the WiiU gets is in that Firefight pack. :p

Wait a minute, wasn't this the PC Origin pre-order weapons?
Additionally, players will unlock the AT-12 Raider shotgun and M-55 Argus Assault Rifle as part of the downloadable content.

The Raider was the PC preorder bonus. The Argus was a preorder bonus for 360 and PS3.

I wish people would have the balls to tell you why they wanna kick you when you get top score, 0-2 downs, and work the objectives, because I seem to get kicked for no reason all the time. I'll ask and they just silently vote-kick me.

I should just start idling. Less effort, and the result is the same.

Been giving the Paladin another chance. Not too bad. Definitely better than I gave him credit for. The shield is still kind of useless. At least you can change weapons when you have the shield planted.

Yeah, he's not so bad. A solid player, but not a game changer.

Yeah, was using the tactics in the video and using the shield as protection for people doing the point objectives. Also, it was great blocking a Turret's fire while another person blew it up.
The Raider was the PC preorder bonus. The Argus was a preorder bonus for 360 and PS3.
It was also in the N7 pack you had as a GS pre-order bonus, with two other items.

About the AT-12 raider from the ME Wikia:
Carried by the batarian military's notorious Special Intervention Unit, the Raider is a semi-automatic shotgun that loads slowly but fires rapidly, with tremendous force. Short-range even for a shotgun, the Raider has a large pellet spread. Rather than eliminating recoil, its integral compensators instead make it predictable and vertical.
http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Shotguns#Mass_Effect_3

Specs from there say it packs the third hardest punch behind the Claymore and the Crusader, though doesn't have much ammo reserve.

ohhhh snap...i have a drill keychain I'd like to mech-jack the atlas and use for every mission.

it is great for blocking turrets, banshee balls, brute charges, prime cannons, rockets, etc. He is a fun class i just wish i could love more. i reset again and am gonna build him to the snap freeze, energy drain.. trying to combo with incinerate just doesn't work at all enough to be worth the extra points.

I kind of agree. Shep without the squad, just doesn't seem like Shep.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed those bastards yelling "Shepard's tearing us apart!" in Arrival. Especially when the Revenant was in its prime. Not so much now, since it's been beaten, dropped the soap, and humiliated. Sad.
Preview: Getting wet with Mass Effect 3: Leviathan

Not necessarily thrilled about the "Shepard is isolated from his squad" bit. I hated being alone in Arrival.
You ran into isolation from your squad for a time in Stolen Memory and it wasn't a huge issue for me, since it was short.

Arrival was all Shepard running solo and at times, yes, it was a bit of a trouble. Never complain about your situation, use it to your advantage. ;)

Though, I guess the last point to play Leviathan will be right before
Cronos Station
, for obvious reasons. I wonder what they'll throw at you if you start towards the end versus the beginning. I also wonder if it'll be like Stolen Memory where you won't get the new weapons until you run through Leviathan and it would be best to do that in the beginning.

Yeah, the two previews (Destructoid and IGN) revealed more than I probably want to know going in. But, it sounds pretty cool for the most part. Like a mix of LotSB scope with Arrival like story. I'm okay with that. I agree that the Shep-only parts of Arrival were jarring, but something about the setting of Leviathan could make it work. I like that they're making a conscious effort to make this mission challenging. I'm also interested in hearing more about the weapons they're making available with this DLC.

How long is it officially "summer"???

I wish we didn't have to reset an entire class, just individual characters.

/I/ liked Arrival with solo gameplay because it made me think out of the box and rely only on my tools and not the whole squad. That, and I think it made the combat more satisfying since it was just me.

I think the weapons we'll get introduced will be the ones they've brought out for MP, the Reegar, Krysae, etc. Those weapons and the Raider and the Argus.

Summer goes for another 7 weeks, so I'm sure we'll see it before the end of this month.
