I thought Liara's was good, as she is my main squeeze. It isn't so much tat she is negative Nancy about our chances of winning, but since she "turned dark" in taking over the role of Shadow Broker, was straight up with Shepard that she has changed. She, of all of the interests IMO, truly LOVES Shepard the most. The actions she took, and complete sacrifice of her morals and character to bring him back, is above and beyond anything the others did. From her events in the comics, through Shadow Broker, and to their last love scene, she wants nothing MORE than to win, but think she kept him grounded in reality that the odds were heavily against them, didn't want to go through all she did to lose him again, and often tried to throw barriers up (pun intended) to protect herself from being hurt.
The greatness of their dynamic to me was she was always in the background from ME1 the science nerd. She was always "young" and vulnerable. She grew the most (sans Jack) in finding their identity throughout the series. In Liara's case, she never came across to me as the type of person SHE though she would become. Hesitant to take power, yet wields it superbly. Loved fiercely and was very protective, yet always the most afraid of being hurt. Came from nothing but pursuit of knowledge to having infinite wisdom at her fingers.
Their DLC content about her piano song I thought was remarkable contextually, as it really tossed in there her very most protected and emotional memory. It showed that she was willing to share with Shepard the one thing that got her through her ME1 days as a scientist, through her fear, and made everything OK. That gesture to me, symbolized her ultimate opening up to him, dropping her barriers (PUN) and giving him access to her most sensitive and protected feelings.
I went through with Jack, Tali, Miranda... well everyone but Ashley (who is on this playthrough) and feel none of them carry the emotional weight and partnership that Liara did... but thats just me.
I don't agree with everything you said, but I do respect your opinion. And that's fine. If that's what you believe, I won't try to change it.
Also, my favorite tracks from Citadel OST were The End & Farewell and Into the Inevitable.
