What always struck me from the beginning is the people who comment not about the points of discussion, but just that we discuss them.
Might pick back up the MP for the first time in a very long time tonight. Has the unlock rate gotten any better? It was severely hard to get rare characters before. I still don't have some of the originals and I used to play a lot.
If the Extended Cut was the original ending, I don't think the backlash would have been nearly as bad. There are still issues with the endings, but at least there is some closure as opposed to
pick a color, watch some vague scenes, cut to credits, buy our DLC, peace out.
I'm still not that fond of the ending, but the Extended Cut put me at peace with the whole thing.
Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are two of my all time favorites and 95% of Mass Effect 3 was great. As much as the ending burned me, I'll never forget how much fun I had with this phenomenal trilogy. I can't quit it, either... I'm getting excited for the next piece of DLC, despite feeling pretty "meh" about Leviathan and Omega.

The amount of gear/guns/characters has gotten MUCH bigger. But that all depends on when's the last time you played.

I'm ditching my copy. Loved the game, but no desire to shell out for more DLC.
So... You're still waiting for the press release or DLC or whatever that will confirm the truth that the ending wasn't real? The game has been out for 10 months now and it's still yet to be resolved? That strikes you as probable?
Maybe not probable, but possible. My expectation is that the sequel will be forced to address the ending. Bioware might be cautious about what they say in order to avoid constraining themselves too much for the sequel. Or maybe there's some other 'artistic' reason. For example, David Chase refuses to spell out The Sopranos finale even though it's way less ambiguous than ME3's IMO. And yes, I'm comparing ME to The Sopranos (again), fuggedaboutit.
I don't agree with Phokis that "it was all a dream". Yet, I can't trust a single word that Star Child says. Star Child is an avatar for the reapers. The threat you've been fighting all along. The reason that the citadel is full of bodies on your final return. That's why I picked Destroy. Star Child says it'll kill all A.I.? that! It might kill him and his über-allies, that's good enough. I just hope he's lying about EDI and the Geth. (deep breath) SMASH! ... Don't Stop Believin -
I loved the Sopranos ending. I do not think that Tony got killed right then in the restaurant, but that the ending represents the fact that the possibility of imminent sudden death will hang over him forever.

Nah. I agree that they made it seem like he may have been killed in the restaurant, but I think that's in service to the point that this is what the rest of his life will be: a never-ending series of moments where every person might be a threat and sudden death could come at any time. Just my interpretation.
Ironically, that's real life in a nutshell: You never know when death will come for you. Infection, car accident, earthquake, asteroid/meteor, electrocution, drowning, choking, food poisoning, hypothermia, burning to death, heat stroke, etc. Life is full of surprises.
On a happier note, I'm part way through my ME3 Insanity run and I must say: the Adas Anti-Synthetic Rifle is a MONSTER of a gun. It has a built-in Disruptor Ammo effect (tears through shielding) and coupled with Incendiary Ammo (tears through Armor), it annihilates anything the game can throw at you. No wonder BioWare hasn't given it to MP yet. It's too powerful without tweaking.
And as a Soldier using the Rank 6 Evolution of Concussive Shot (Amplification), powered with Incendiary Ammo, it creates Fire Explosions all over the place (technically, any rapid fire gun can do this; I just like using the Adas). Even better, is that Concussive Shot cools so fast, that you can chain Fire Explosions one after another. Absolute madness. And oh so much fun.

You forgot "Conspicuous stranger in Members Only jacket."
Well, I finally beat this for the first time on Sunday night. I gave myself a few days to consider the ending and think over it before I posted how disappointed I was. Went through and read a bunch of the comments here from Post-EC trying to get more perspective, but nothing changed, still disappointing.
That said, I played as a Vanguard and loved the Charge/Nova combo with the Graal Spike Thrower. Virtually impossible to kill and really enjoyed detonating each of Liara's warps with a charge. I spent around 54 hours and did just about everything on this playthrough, including doing Leviathan, From Ashes and the EC on the first playthrough.
The game overall was outstanding, I mean really, outstanding. But I hated how the reaper story line was treated in this game:
The conversation with Sovereign in ME 1, it specifically says the Reapers have no beginning and they have no end. So you are now telling me that an AI Star Child "created" the Reapers to prevent constant war between synthetics and organics? I don't know of a worse or more conflicting way they could have gone with the story line.
ME 2 had about a 5 hour ending on the Suicide mission with a final epic battle against a Reaper. Why couldn't that have been done here? I would have rather seen an epic battle against Harbinger, and once he died, the other reapers would then be weak because Harbinger was the centcom.
I'm with Shipwreck on the ending, I'm basically just ignoring the last 30 minutes and creating my own ending for this 150 hour saga (sticks head in sand). 1, 2 and 3 were ridiculously good, and the
battle on Tuchanka where the thresher maw defeats the Reaper and Mordin cures the Genophage was EPIC!
However, the MP will be the reason I continue to play this game. It's just too much fun and I still don't have a Krogan yet. This series has brought me two of my favorite games, ME1 and ME2, and ME1 wins for me simply from the conversation with Sovereign. Not sure if I have the heart to do to an insanity run on this one.
I know I'm not saying nothing new here just wanted to voice that the EC still sucks and the
Star Child explanation
is completely disappointing. I could only imagine how most of ya'll felt beating the game before the EC was released.
I'm so in love with the mp it still is a blast.
This. The MP is addicting. I've been giving soloing a go lately and can now comfortably solo silver. After 5 attempts I can only get to wave 8 on gold by myself with the Geth soldier. I don't know if I'm gonna give up or not.....but back to ME 2 insanity run for now.

I probably come off as too much of an apologist for the ending, but I'd be lying if I said I felt much satisfaction watching the credits roll. It is a disappointing ending. I cannot get on board though that it ruins the game or the series or any of that. ME3 is just a straight up awesome game, despite its flaws. It's the got the story moments you mentioned (Tuchanka). The standout scene for me though
was Grunt throwing himself to certain death! And then crawling out!
The MP of course is fun and addictive. It continues to get support that costs nothing extra (unless you want to buy packs with spacebucks for some reason).
Eh counter this statement with my huge ass backlog/future achievement goals. lol
Oddly enough, this game's MP made me not care about achievements as much as I used to. My backlog is piling up tho. I need to finish Halo 4 and Assassins Creed 3 still.
Banshees aren't too bad. They broadcast themselves which helps to keep your distance. They're generally only an issue for me if I get cornered or stuck. Although twin banshees will often have me hitting ↑on the d-pad.
No, for me, the N7 Chubby Bubble Girl reaction is when running into Dragoons or Phantoms. I hadn't played in about a week, but logged on last night to get the weekend commendation pack. I spawn into the middle of a round on Firebase Ghost (Hazard) at the extraction point and in a heavy acid rain downpour. Joining me when I spawn is at least one Dragoon who whips me harder than Willow Smith's hair. I went down almost immediately.
Previous to last night, I had been playing as the Krogan Shaman "Baba Rick" (working on 200 wave challenge). I can usually keep Dragoons staggered with a combo of Warp, Shockwave, Heavy Melee, Shotgun Blast(s). With the Human Soldiers I played as last night (to get commendation pack), I felt helpless.
Whipped me harder than Willow Smiths hair.....that's priceless. +bonus reference points to you, sir.
Dragoons are the only Cerberus enemy that give me pause. But those Collectors....ugh. what a pain the the butt. At this point, Reapers don't bother me at all. I've been going against them exclusively in my solo runs (see a couple posts back) so I know them inside and out. Its when there are 3 brutes, 2 banshees, a couple of ravagers, some of those full auto marauders and a couple of husks trying to hump my head on Gold solo that make that faction difficult.
Ah, gold, I've barely dipped my toes in it. I'm mostly a silver man. I was surprised at the jump in lethality of dragoons and phantoms when I made the jump to silver from bronze.
As for reapers, the ravagers are usually the ones to take me down. Everyone else's job is to just push you into the open for a, uh, ravaging, ahem. When you hear that 'zhew' sound, you know you've already lost your shields and half your health.

See, I agree with you on this for the predominant part. The tone of the game is set incredibly well, with the reality of how poorly the war is going. Worlds fall, tons of people die - many that you are close to or at least have interacted with. I was on the edge of my seat, each loss only spurred me further on to get those Reaper bastards. That's why the ending was such a colossal letdown. It's stopped me from promoting it, playing it, even having a positive outlook on their future material.
It's like a big twist ending in a movie that is going well. Or when a TV series or comic book changes writing staff and just throws out a bunch of stuff that conflicts with everything you've invested yourself into already. Which is just compounded by the fact that you helped build the story yourself. It's a creative challenge, a massive technical challenge, and I think they didn't want to restrict themselves. Like with the Rachni, it was questioned why they were forced into the story (or similar replacement) when they could have been eradicated in ME1. They didn't want new players to miss out. So with the ending, how can you get so granular without importing all these choices? That would be mind-boggling enough, but then consider the newer players. The ones without ME1 or ME2 saves, especially the PS3 players at that time.
So they went wide....high-concept. Take these endings however you like. Face value? 3 for 3 all good. Someone on a youtube reaction thing said "oh man, I heard it was bad. It would only be bad if the Reapers won". Well....maybe for you but that is not true in any sense. The Reapers could have won, the sacrifice could have been glorious, wiped out everyone or just set up the next cycle. As long as the story was told well. But that was the problem, especially pre-EC. It wasn't told well. And those of us who built our own stories, paid close attention to the mythos, are left to speculate on what the endings mean. Which was what Casey Hudson wanted. But it wasn't a satisfying end when no one can agree as to what the endings mean.
AC3 went the other way. It has a lot of story-telling gaps, the tone is never as exciting as the stakes, and while I enjoyed the ending, the overall experience of AC3 doesn't match ME3. It's too bad, if they had really nailed the ending the game wouldn't be saddled with this association. Amazing series, controversial ending. That's the legacy.
On the MP front, enjoying some of the new classes and changes but it's not clicking as much. The original human classes are pretty much dead, and I got kicked just for wanting to use one in a silver match. I wish the AC3 multi-player community was better/more active. Especially wolf-pack. It's always low activity and the people you get are always either doing it wrong or self-important. I've gotten much better teamwork from random people in the ME3 MP matches for the most part.
Silver has been holding pretty fair. Only need a consumable or two if we really get swamped. More if the team isn't cohesive. Lots of people switch the lobbies suddenly to gold and then we get hammered. I'm usually switching around classes and builds every match just to change up the experience. One thing I'm wondering is why the Salarians are getting the big middle finger. There is still just the original two and the dang Volus have three now!
Dude, it's been so long since I played ME3 multi-player that I had never seen the challenges. I've just decided that I'll never get them, much less the crazy ones. Too bad it doesn't count the event weekends I participated in prior to banners, I had a bunch of them.
Got my first gold solo extraction! Kroguard vs geth on Giant (for rp). Went pretty easy I got wreck less a few times but the whole match was pretty intense.

Congrats! I've been working on gold solo with the geth soldier on giant vs reapers. After 5the attempts I can only get to wave 8. I tried the kroguard but that build doesn't fit my style of play. I'm going to try with the Asari Huntress or the Turian Ghost.
I would think solo would be easiest against the geth with a Salarian or a class with Sabotage. I haven't played in a while so maybe they got nerfed or the geth got a boost.
Actually a Plasma Cutter for Shepard in ME3 would be amazing.
I love these EA crossovers. Maybe we'll see some Dragon Age themed stuff for Isaac too. Not likely to be any Kingdoms of Amalur items though, unless they were developed a long time ago.
