Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

Overlord was good, but felt unnecessary from a story standpoint. It comes together nicely in ME3 when you visit Grissom Academy, though.

thinking back on some of the ME avatar stuff, I might spring for the rc mako from ME1. I love that pos.

Overlord was good, yes, though a bit of a departure from the standard ME2 fare because of the endgame of Overlord where you're solo. The collection bits for the achievement was a bit of a PITA and of course, anything in the hovercraft was always chock full of fun. It did have a nice Paragon/Renegade decision at the end.

It did tie in nicely to Grissom Academy in ME3.

Overlord was all right, but I really didn't like the hovercraft parts. Vehicles don't belong in Mass Effect IMO. Only good vehicle segment they've done was in Lair of the Shadow Broker, and the best part of that was Liara's backseat driving.

The bits with the Mako in ME1 weren't so bad, though the Hammerhead items in ME2 were enough to drive me nuts, mainly because you couldn't save until you made it through.

LoTSB did get the vehicle bits right, yes. Liara back-seat driving is comedy gold.

I think Overlord was a bit more special to me because I read the book Ascension which talked about pretty much what you discovered in that DLC. I felt a special bond lol but it wasn't like a Halo title where if you didn't read the book that info just went right over your head.

Eeeeehhhhhh. I can never pick a fav..Garrus. fuck   :booty:

Good to see you on this thread Hitman, yeah I definitely had 100% conviction on ME2 DLC and probably 75% with ME3, there was doubt due to how things unfolded.

I know it is close to sacrilege to say so, but though I like the character of Garrus, I never felt he was the best squadmate in any of the games.  Liara was usually the one I couldn't do without, no matter which class I was using for the Commander.

Garrus was a good squadmate, not the best, but good. Miranda and Liara are the best squadmates in ME2 and ME3 respectively, I don't think that's even up for debate. Miranda is so OP compared to any other squadmate in ME2 it's not even funny. Right below those two, I would put Zaeed, Thane, Grunt, and James probably. Garrus is better by default in ME3 because he doesn't have Thane there to outclass him (sniper w/ Warp > sniper w/ Overload).

are we going by character personality or by their squad powers?

If by character personality:

ME2:

1.  Garrus

2.  Thane

3.  Miranda

ME3:

1.  Garrus

2.  Liara

3.  Tali

if going by squad powers:

ME2:

1.  Miranda (had her every mission on my Insanity playthrough...so OP)

2.  Thane

3.  Garrus/Mordin

ME3:

1.  Liara

2.  Javik

3.  Garrus

I just remember taking James and EDI with me on my final Insanity missions in ME3. While I hid and did my Infiltrator thing, they just hung out in the streets, flexing and ignoring the lasers bouncing off of their chests.

TECH 4 LIFE.

Really though, Miranda's stupid good and I totally gimped myself by never using her in ME2. I just like to imagine she was off crying about how perfect she was instead of pulling her weight.

None of these characters you are mentioning have Shadow Strike.

Wat were you doing on your insanity runs, losing?

You have no idea how much time I've spent cloaked with that woman. I have more hours clocked playing with Kasumi than most do in their entire trilogy runs.

I know Kasumi's supposed to be really good, I've just never used her that much. I'm just talking mechanically here, I absolutely LOVE Kasumi as a character/personality. I tend to favor sniper squadmates because they like to hang way back and stay out of trouble. Jack is my favorite character but I can't use her on anything above normal because she just loves to run straight up into the enemies' faces and get killed. Same with Tali. Grunt is the only squadmate who can actually be trusted with a shotgun.

This conversation is so making me want to play through ME2 again.

Aye, I felt they did a great transformation with Jack's character and she really grew on me in ME3 - like you said though she likes to run head straight into the baddies lol.

Do it for the Shadow Strike.
I'll give it to you that shadow strike is probably the best single use squadmate power in ME2, but it's usefulness on insanity is extremely limited by Kasumi's squishiness. Since it leaves her behind enemy lines more often than not she would shadow strike herself into a deathtrap. Sure the baddy went down but then I was left with one man down as well. Found myself using Miranda and Grunt more often on insanity.

"2 for story, 3 for gameplay, 1 for the epic story beginnings."

Wow couldn't have said it better myself.

I didn't feel like that was an issue. She's usually good at immediately cloaking back up and returning to your side unless she got on some weird geometry and felt the need to do a couple quarter spins before moving but I found that to be an uncommon occurrence.

Dark Horse is having a video gamer sale on their digital comics, with most of the video game titles they have reduced down to $0.99.

It covers ME, Dragon Age, Halo and Last Of Us:

Figures, I just bought Foundations #4 yesterday. No biggie, just a dollar lost. Thanks for the heads up!

My experience as well, but I never used her for insanity either. I always used Miranda and Grunt usually.

Shadow Strike is an awesome power in ME3 MP, but for Kasumi in ME2? In my experience I agree it often just got her into trouble and she'd be down within a few seconds during major fights.

Oh, and on personality alone, I'd have to say Mordin was the best in ME2. Tali in ME3.

I really wanted to like it, but I gave up on Foundations. I read 1 & 2 and it just didn't seem to be going anywhere I needed to be. Just felt like Tales from the Cantina or something.

I gotta admit, Foundations is weak.  Like really weak and it worries me that Mac Walters is at the helm of the Foundations story.  Long story short, It follows the story of Rasa, who was the Cerberus chick in the Citadel DLC under the alias "Maya Brooks".  It follows her as she is investigating various members of Shepard's crew at critical points in the overall ME story, prior to her appearance in the Citadel.  My appraisal, after six issues, is this:

A)  The Rasa / Kai Leng story sucks.  Don't care at all and, to be completely frank, I was always more interested in the Reapers as the enemy rather than Cerberus...but I digress.  Rasa isn't that interesting and she is merely a vehicle to retell these unseen stories.  Her character has no depth and her childish squabbling and vying for "Daddy's" attention with Kai Leng is bo-ring.  In fact, I think it takes away from the stoic assassin he was in the novels and ME3.

B)  But, dangit, it is interesting to see what the crew was up to "off screen."  Like what was going on when Eden Prime was attacked and Ash had to fight with her squad.  Even how Miranda recruited Jacob to Cerberus was relatively interesting.  The Kaiden issue was kinda flat, though.

I'm just a "lore whore" and I usually dig deep into whatever it is I'm into.  So, I want to know as much as I can about these characters, their stories, and the overall universe.  I'm dying to find a little tiny hint of what might be next for ME, but I think this is just something that Mac Walters wanted to do and it keeps some fresh content going.  I have to say that Foundations is the weakest of the ME comics, by far.  Still, I'll buy the rest of the issues once they're .99.  This is Mass Effect, after all.

I still have some of the tech ones left too, and a couple "get x amounts of kills with y weapon". I'm REALLY trying to hold off till I finish New Vegas though...

Got Sabotage Specialist, Dampening and Neural Shock and then wasted an hour+ spamming AI Hack and not realizing you have to do it on an AI. Yeah in hindsight, I am stupid. Pinnacle Station DLC is perfect for these achievements though -- it's like Mass Effect's zombie mode (CoD's zombie mode).

That's right, Fist's office has a couple of drones that you can spam AI Hacking and then reload.
Okay, dumb question time: I still have some of the ability achievements to get in ME1 even though I have played it 8 or 9 times. When you say re-load, do you mean that even if you go back to a previous save point it still "remembers" you already used the power X # of times and it counts towards your total?

I got too bored using the reload method on Fist to get that achievement. I did it a few times then ended up getting the achievement later in that play through.

Ha, just did Fist's mission and got it, AI Hacking complete -- figured I'd start my Next Game+ with my level 44 Engie! Didn't have to reload, I guess I only needed 3 or 4 more. Fist blew up the first hacked turret but coward behind his desk with the 2nd one to allow me to hack it a few times.

I'm pretty sure I have to start 2 new playthroughs to wrap up all the tech achievements I need...ah well :D

I also decided I'm finally gonna run my ParaGade Shep through ME3 starting this weekend. Have some interesting decisions from the first two mixed into this playthrough so I'm looking forward to it.

Hahaha, so I've decided I want to recreate the Normandy as an Unreal 3 Tournament level, as I'm proficient with the Unreal 3 editor, and just took a day to weigh SR1 or SR2 layout. Actually liked the curved staircase on each side of the CIC with SR1, would be good Unreal gameplay (don't know why but stairs and that vertical height distance is always good in shooters) but I love the layout in ME2 where you have the Armory, Science Lab and the Briefing/Com Room of the SR2. This same deck in ME3 really is one of my least favorites as the Armory was moved to the Shuttle Bay and they added a TSA room which you have to go through every time you want to use the Holograms in the back lol.
