Mass Effect - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pinnacle Station DLC Now Available 400pts

Damn it so close to the Renegade achievement. I think its a bit past 60% full, I doubt it'll fill up before I restart. Guess I'll have to be more Renegade-y this time around.

I don't want to give anything away, but there are opportunities for some serious renegade points near the end. Make sure your intimidate skill is maxed out, too.
I'm so fed up with this game right now. It's been great for the most part, but this mission I'm on now... Ugh. I quit playing for a month due to COD4 addiction. I started it up again yesterday. I finished the last bit of Noveria (did it before Feros) and then when I left to go to another system, I got a transmission from the Alliance Marines regarding the Rogue VI on Luna, Earth's Moon.

The first 2 bunkers were hard enough, and I had to back up and recharge health and biotics multiple times. But the third bunker is just plain impossible. I have to shoot through the kinetic field blocking the doorway where the enemies are, so they come after em and actually chase me into the room I'm in, allowing me no room to breathe. I exhaust all my biotic powers twice, but these things kill fast and up close, they kill in one hit.

This is fucking ridiculous. It's not even challenging; it's just cheap. I have no chance. It's about 50 times harde than anything else I've encountered in the game, and this is on NORMAL difficulty. I'm a Level 26 Vanguard with Ashley and Liara as my party members.
I just did that mission, easiest way to do it is to hang back in the hallway, let your teamates take most of the shots while you support them , when they go down run back outside the base Heal then do it again.

Man. I just completed Noveria and I did not expect that twist at all.

Makes me wonder if Saren actually had any allies or if he's controlling them. I also wasn't expecting the Rachni to be a "good" species after hearing they wiped out so many people. I freed them this time around :). Going all paragon this play through and then I'm going to go all renegade next play through.

Beat the game for the first time tonight, ending was a lot more entertaining then I thought it would be. But I was getting real sick of having so many weapons thrown at me at the very end, I couldn't do anything by that point except convert everything to omni-gel and keep going. Ending was great and all but I just enjoyed KOTOR so much more then this, the only thing I want to do now is replay Knights.

Wow, fuck MS for charging for the Bring Down The Sky DLC, when Bioware + EA just give it out for free a month or so later on the PC.

I was going to get the DLC, but apparently Bioware has no problem with it being free, so why can't it be free on the 360?

Well I was thinking the same thing but Gears DLC became free on the PC and I read an article that said UT3 will have the old DLC free for the 360 version. It's just how the business goes I guess. Didn't say I liked it... I guess if you have a PC that can run Mass Effect than you'd prob wait and get it for that for the free content but heck it's only one mission.
Well I was thinking the same thing but Gears DLC became free on the PC
It came on the disc, though.

Here's the thing, though... even if it has free DLC, the PC version of ME isn't coming out until 2 and 1/2 months AFTER the 360 DLC launched.

That, combined with the fact that PC owners have already had to wait 6 months for the game itself really just makes this a show of goodwill. Ok, so you don't have to pay the 400 pts for the DLC, but you've also had to wait 6 months to even play the game, so I think that sort of evens out.

Plus, I mean, it's 400 pts. The pricing isn't even that terrible.

I'm not losing any sleep over the PC version. When they first announced it, I hoped that they might patch the 360 version to use the improved inventory system, but now I'm done with the game so it's not a big deal (and it looked like the improvements were geared towards a keyboard/mouse interface, anyway).

I thought about whether I could wait for the PC versions of ME2 and 3 in case they have similar enhancements, but then I remembered I'll want to carry over my 360 saves. Plus I won't be able to wait 6 months!

So I beat the game...and...well NO Asary ally achievement. Curious though, can you continue on with the same character (or even start a new character), start a new game, and use Liara and does the sidequests and % of the game you complete on the new game add on to those you completed in the game before that? So lets say 75% is required to get the ally achievement, and I got 70% in that playthrough. Can I get the last 5% in the NEXT playthrough, or will I have to play the entire game again and do all the missions and stuff?

Crappy thing is I had two missions (missing marines and asari diplomacy) that I couldnt complete. Other than that I completed every mission (including the fetchquests) and...ya. I only finished at level 49 too >_< Actually I just saw that I never completed the Tali quest...maaaybe that might push me over for that achievement? Eh...I'll just keep the save and see whats said about the continuation stuff first I guess...

Wow seriously? Then thats not bad at all. I beat it for the first time now, so is it possible to use a different character for your next playthrough and different allies, then later go back to the character you used on your first playthrough and get the achievement? Or do you have to start a new game with the character you used right away, otherwise you lose him??

Nope, you can switch it up as much as you want and it'll keep a record of all the characters you've finished the game with. After I finished my first game, I made three other characters so I could try out other classes for a few weeks. Then when the DLC came out, I started a new game using my very first character. It was pretty cool seeing him in action again. :)

ok awesome, thanks. I think I'll start my next game as a soldier. I played an engineer and...I feel like shooting the crap out of the enemies after using tech skills for so long :p (Although engineer was really fun...and the pistol was a great weapon in itself.)

I actually did that mission around level 33 or so and had no trouble at all. Actually, almost all side missions in the game were easy for me. Had barely any trouble.

Soldier is a whole lot of fun. The assault rifle is great after being stuck with a pistol or shotgun the entire game. I was wondering how I ever killed anything before. Engineer was surprisingly cool, too. I went in thinking it would be sort of a less-involved, supporting kind of class, but those tech mines get to be pretty dangerous.

Thinking of going through this game a second time as a Female character. I completed it the first time as a Vanguard. What class do you all suggest I should use this time? I'm going through Hardcore now.

I didn't find the Lunar base that hard on Normal as a soldier. Hardcore and Insanity with my Adept was a different story.

I mostly just tried to lure them through a corridor, acting as a doorman when they fired rockets (closing the door when they launch a couple, open, repeat). Was very tedious and boring. :p
I think I'm going to go through the game this time as a Female Engineer or Infiltrator. Played as a Vanguard first time through. What do you all think? Engineer or Infiltrator to start the game on Hardcore?
I forget how else infiltrator differs from engineer besides getting a sniper rifle and fewer tech talents. I think the experience will be fairly similar with each, but definitely stick an assault rifle or barrier bonus talent on them if you can.

That sounds like my experience. Soldier is kind of like playing one difficulty lower, whereas adept is one higher, at least at the beginning of the game where your powers take forever to recharge. I don't know if I could handle Insanity with a brand new adept.

As a soldier it went by slowly, but felt easy. Playing as an Adept it went by quickly, but with more "Oh crap, I'm going to die!" moments. I think it went by both quickly and easier on Insanity because I had three biotics including myself just spamming crap.

The last boss was easy, but a pain in the ass playing as a Vanguard. None of my biotics worked because he moved so fast. I had to just shoot him until he died which was also a pain in the ass. Freaking thing was like a monkey.

I've decided though. I'm going to start the game on Hardcore using an Adept. Yay :).

I finished a second playthrough the other day, so I'm wondering is the DLC worth the money? I haven't even played enough of the side missions to get the explore almsot everything achievement. I feel like I'd just be paying $5 for 50 points on my gamerscore.

I'm just running through as a solider atm I figured it was the most basic way to get started on the game and how to play it. I might go through again as a different class later on though so far I'm loving the game :).

It's about 2 or 2 1/2 hours of play. And the mission is as good as any in the game comparatively.

I look at it like cheaper than a movie and just as entertaining.

Ditto. I picked it up and didn't feel ripped off at all.

I'm sorry to post in an old, dead topic, but this game is confusing the hell out of me. Why can't I aim with my assault rifle or sniper? I chose the Vangaurd class under the impression that I'd have some sort of a disadvantage with those two guns. I had no idea I wouldn't be able to use them at all.

On top of that, I feel like I'm not using half the features within the game. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. How do I know when I'm supposed to upgrade my team's talents? Where am I even getting the points to do so? What is the purpose of this omni-gel stuff? I haven't used it at all, but every time I have an item selected, the game asks me if I want to convert it to omni-gel.

I'm sorry for being such a huge noob, and I'm sure no one else had this much trouble with the game, but for some reason I feel as if I missed some huge explanation somewhere.

Um....the game tells you when you level up, that's when you get talent points. Omni-gel is used to hack open doors and such and to repair the Mako.

...Strange.....I'm now at level six; last I checked I was level three. I don't remember receiving any notification that my character had advanced. Is it just in the form of a small pop up or something? Like when I gain XP or credits?

It pops up on the screen (where the +XP shows up) and a sound plays.
It pops up on the screen (where the +XP shows up) and a sound plays.
Alright. I guess I've just been totally oblivious to it. I've been playing Oblivion a lot, so I'm used to there being a big pop up with a congratulatory message every time I level up...

So can Vangaurds just not use assault/sniper rifles? That's my main concern right now. They both say "untrained" under them. How do I get un-untrained? I'd love to be able to use something other than my shotgun or pistol.

As you discovered, weapons are pretty much useless unless your character can train in them. Your vanguard can't use either rifle. Don't be discouraged, though. I was a vanguard in my first game and after putting a decent amount of points into my pistol it became incredibly accurate and deadly, like a tiny sniper rifle without zoom. Don't worry about it for now and just be a soldier on your next game. The assault rifle cuts through enemies and it's a blast. :D

Make sure you have auto-level-up turned off. Maybe the game is leveling up your characters for you and that's why you don't notice any points. Otherwise, you'll notice the squad (or skills? It's been a while) menu option blinking and when you go to it you'll have points to assign.

Thanks for the help. Now all I have to do is figure out some of the menus and I'll be on track. I really have no idea why this game is confusing me so much; but for some reason, I'm having an extremely difficult time just navigating the menus and trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing.

Don't get me wrong though. I absolutely love this game.

Hey, was bored and just happened to read this thread. I feel the exact same way. I got this game around Christmas, and havn't played it since. I've never felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't know if I was leveling up, or anything. I feel like a complete idiot when I play this game. I would love to try it again, I just feel I will get confused and give up. I mean, it's one thing to get lost in the game, but to get lost how to play the game? Or how your stats work? That's just wrong.

The game is definitely in need of some kind of tutorial, even an optional one. I was maybe a third of the way through before I really felt like I knew how things worked. Glad to hear you're at least enjoying it, though. Just keep at it and eventually you'll pick everything up naturally.

One helpful tip that I had to read about to find out: You can zoom the Mako turret and cannon just like a regular gun, which is really useful for those distant targets. Also you get way less XP for killing things with the Mako, so (if it's safe) hop out once you get stuff enemies to a sliver of health and finish them off on foot.

I really hope BDTS isnt the only DLC we'll be getting. It was a fun plathrough and the end credits song was good. I want more Mass Effect ...at least before Mass Effect 2 comes out, no way in hell are they gonna leave me with such a cliffhanger.

Just finished the game today. Played as an Adept and beat almost all of the side missions. Thought the final boss was a bit too easy and underwhelming. I also found myself not being able to find anymore useful equipment for awhile and having millions of cash left over.

Time to play through it again with a different class i guess

I just picked up the game. I'm thinking that for my first run, I'm going to just play the game and use no guide. For my second run I'm going to use a guide. Is there a lot of sidequests and such?
just finished my first run through. it was fun but man it can go quick...
Yeah, if you don't do a lot of side quests and stuff it's fairly quick. I've played through once on 360 and once on PC and beat it in around 15 hours each time. Don't ever get bored on a Sunday and decide you want to play through the entire game though. You hurt from not moving for so long :p
just finished my first run through. it was fun but man it can go quick...
Took 35 hours my first time, because I did all the side quests.

I came in at 35 hours as well, through doing every sidequest (at least everyone I found and was in my log book).

Haven't got around to a 2nd playthrough. Kind of doubt I will, but will hold on to it incase more DLC comes out.

How do checkpoints work in this game? I got pretty far on the 2nd planet (Dig Site), then one of those robots shot a missile at me and killed my whole party. I played close to an hour and I started back at the beginning of the level. I hate when games do that.

Generally speaking, it Autosaves every time you touch down on a planet. After that, I suggest saving periodically.

I had the same thing happen to me. Annoyed the hell out of me, so I actually went and completed some other stuff, brought my level up quite a bit, and then went back and just breezed through that planet with no problems.

If I save, when I die it will take me back to that point, rather than the beginning of the level?
