Mass Effect - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pinnacle Station DLC Now Available 400pts
Does it fix the frame rate problems and slow ass loading times?
In the future, elevators just can't handle the extremes of space and must move slowly. So, the game designers are just trying to be accurate.

Seriously though, when I tried playing this game back when it was released, the frame rate was so bad during combat scenes, I had to give up. And don't get me started on driving that damned vehicle. That was awful.

I installed the game and there were no noticeable framerate issues. As for driving the Mako, that take a little getting used to but afterward is fairly straight-forward.

I wonder if the "documentary" is just the Sci vs. Fi thing from the Sci Fi channel that's on the Marketplace, or something actually from the LE. FYI the LE had 4 documentaries, totaling just under 1 hour of video.

That doesn't include all the other stuff, but I will find it interesting if they put one of those 4 documentaries on this new version.

I'm hoping this is an attempt to bring the interest level back up for Mass Effect so that they can drop an announcement later on in the year for new DLC or, hopefully, Mass Effect 2.
Installing to the hard drive should help frame rate and elevator problems.
It doesn't help with the elevator. That's on a fixed rate of movement.

Yea its a shame the game is buggy I have had numerous times I would have to reload a save or restart the console due to freezes. However Bioware makes some excellent games and the bugs in KOTR II were much worse than these.

I'll drop another $20 in a heart beat for the extra disc and DLC. Trading/selling/giving away the copy I have now isn't an issue for a surprisingly solid RPG. Unfortunately it still has the WORST inventory system I've ever encountered in a RPG and that makes me a sad panda. ;'(

I loved the game despite the bugs--I didn't have many freeze ups, just the slowdown, pop up etc. But still one of my favorites of this generation, so I highly reccomend it.

The DLC is really short though. Like 90 minutes or so--so it's not worth rebuying the game for unless you're just itching to play through on the opposite path (good vs. evil) or playing with a different character etc.

Bioware did not make KOTR II

Jane Shepard should have been the default character, not John Shepard.

I just recently beat the game, and it's one of the best I've ever played---one of the primary reasons being its score.

The game is so easy though, I don't see how anyone could have any difficulty. The shotguns just deal nonsensical amounts of damage.

I also had no bugs with the game. If you want bugs, try the PC ver.

I agree. I hate how they always make the male the default.

Your lucky, I have a gaming ending bug that made my save useless.

Once you've played on Hardcore or Insane with a new character you might change your mind.

Anyone else see the Super Bowl commercial (it was for beer, I think) with the astronaut looking dudes in the moon lander and think of this? I'll be bumping "Jump Around" every time the MAKO touches down now.

I got Mass Effect recently but then while listening to an older Gamers With Jobs podcast I heard the guys griping about the item menu and how long it can take to go through. They also griped about the now legendary elevator scenes. These 2 complaints got me wondering if they were ever fixed with a patch on the 360? I have a PC that can handle the PC version well enough so I am debating if I should break open the 360 version or take it back and grab the PC version.

Thanks guys!

Neither of those issues are gamebreaking nor are they the biggest issues with the game. I've complained about those also but I still played through the 360 version 3 times. I'd rank the pop-in, slowdown, random glitches and the crappy vehicle controls (compounded by unnecessarily big planet surfaces) as bigger issues than the elevators and item menu.

Just to point out, these are all minor complaints. The game still works, is still a blast, and is still one of the best stories i've played in a while. The slowdowns don't happen often if you have the game installed onto your HDD. Vehicle controls take some getting used to but really, that's just personal preference for most people. Installing the game really helps cut down on the complaints.

Ya the elevators were long, but they weren't "rip out your eyeballs" frustrating. And the item menu I don't remember being that bad. Oh and play that awesome game. Mass Effect 2 was just announced for 1Q next year!!!

Well guys I knew these wernt game breaking or anything. Most of the times I have seen them bitched about people immediatly say but mass effect is still an amazing game. So its not a question of should I play the game or not, as I said its a should I play it on the 360 or take the game back and grab the PC version.

Wait for Feb. 10th i believe and but the 2-disc version for $20. It has the DLC...LE stuff, basically it's the LE for $20.

I never had any freezing problems nor have I even heard about them until now and I have played through the whole game. The problem was/is probably the fault of your computer.

The major fault with the PC version is that it has DRM (SecuROM) on it. I was very excited to get the game when it came out on the Xbox 360, but reviews came out saying that the game had technical problems (long load times, pop-in, etc.,) and a terrible inventory system so I waited for the inevitable PC version. The PC version finally came out...but had SecuROM on it, so I refused to buy it. I finally rented the Xbox 360 version and had a really good time with it. I installed it to my hard drive, and while the elevators can be slow, and there is pop-in, it doesn't break the game.

Short version? I recommend that you wait for the two-disk version to come out in a few weeks and get it for the Xbox 360. If only because I have an undying hatred for DRM.

I think the elevators are supposed to be slow. It is supposed to make the game more realistic. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember reading about it somewhere.
The PC version is unplayable.

Have fun with cutscene freezes that require mandatory reboots.
Get a better computer/drivers. Plays fine on my comp.

Already bought it, but only for $10 off craigslist. So if nothing else hopefully I can flip the game for that much then pick up the LE.

As pointed out above, the slowdown, and random glitches are almost gone if you put this on the HD....the elevators still suck.

I remember reading somewhere a while back that a lot of loading happens while you are in the elevators.

So supposedly this came out yesterday. I have (as has my wife) been looking for this in stores for the past 2 nights. I was wondering if anyone can confirm a retailer to actually carry this? I saw it adverstised on XBL (spotlight) and on Gamestops website however in store they have no idea what so ever of this even existing.
....why?
It's $19.99 for a 2 disc version that includes the DLC. So a better deal than the regular version.

I think he was referring to that horrible platinum hits box art that has now tainted mass effect. Otherwise a good price for a great game.

Ah maybe, I figured he was asking why he was looking for the version with terrible box art and maybe wasn't aware that it had more content than the regular version.
