Media Play's Closing: 70-80% off LAST FEW DAYS

Thx!!!.....um 2 Q's.....

1. when will the prices drop down lower and lower???

2. Did the store in sterlingheights have a lot of stuff in stock???

1. I was told by two cashiers that the Discount percentages would drop rapidly after Christmas and Faster towards the eventual Closing of the store. (late mid January)

2. The store was very well stocked. If it werent for the banners and advertisments, it looked as It would normally around Christmas time. (as of 12/14/05) I did hear for manager requests over the intercom several times over behind the counter where consoles are kept. I bet those will thin out sooner.

Hope this helps.

If all the stores are to be closed say, four weeks after Christmas, that means they would have to liquidate as much as possible in just 28 days. Figuring the sales will be 10-20% off until Christmas... I'd expect 30-40%'s week one, 40-50%'s week two, 50-60%'s week 3, and 60-80%'s for the final seven days. SO, in terms of deals, Media Play is going to have to really pull out all the stops to close that fast. I'll go with the 28 days system as it's the most reliable to deal with in terms of planning deals after the 25th. By the third week I'd assume most of the merchandise would've been picked over but who knows? I'm sure good deals will be available until the end of the sale but I don't see a store that large being able to sell a majority of its stock in just a month without massive price slashing.

I went to the Media play in Antioch, TN and it was insane. There were two lines to to the registers with at least 50 people in each line (and that is not an exaggeration). I walked in, saw that the games were marked at 10% off, and walked right back out.

I didn't understand why so many people were excited about these mediocre deals. The 20% off video game accessories is decent, but most people were buying games from what I could tell. Oh well, I guess $5 off a new game is still a deal for some people - although in Nashville, that is just basically removing the tax.

Yeah theres a couple things in that store that caught my eye once they start really reducing things. If you play poker they have a 200 chip set for 34 minus 20%. and the Aqua Teen Vol 4 is only 15. The Ulitimate Matrix collection is there too for 34 plus discount

I can feel the flame already....went to media play yesterday and found they had 5 psone screens in stock. They were only $3.90 each. I couldn't help myself...$19.00 later I am the proud owner of 5 psone lcd screens.

if anyones interested in a teal nintendo ds nintendogs bundle let me know. The media play here had two of them and besides the box being a bit beat up around the corner its a steal for 130 bucks considering what it goes for on ebay! PM me if interested.
How much are cds/dvds marked off? I may be interested in something...

Or not.
%20.....They wanted 27.99 for 40 year old virgin. With %20 off took it to 22.99. I walked in Walmart and got it for 14.00. I hope there isn't anyone wondering why they are going out of business.

Walked in today. Saw the games at full price with 10% off. Saw overpriced CDs for 20% off. Saw overpriced DVDs for 20% off. Walked out.

I'll show up again when they are done dicking around with pseudo-deals.

Is no one here an Aqua Teen Hunger Force fan? Vol 4 at 15 is fantastic price. The lowest i've seen it online is 18, 23.58 at DDD

No, I was just there about an hour ago. I've never been in one before but I can clearly see why they are going out of business. What a bunch of bafoons. Games for time and a half what I can get them for elsewhere at only 10% off = a huge ripoff.

For some reason, I have this urge to play Lego Star Wars. So, I figured that since I've seen it there before, and its the same price as others, and then another 10% off, might as well pick it up. Low and behold, the one time I actually do want to buy a game there, its freaking sold out.
Anyone know if the % off was increased this week for anything?
% off will not be increased until after christmas, possibly after new years. And everything will happen quite rapidly from there. They want these stores closed as soon as possible.
Just got back from mediaplay and they said that they will all be going out of business. I just got a credit card from them to. And what about all my replay points. this sucks
Your replay card will work at any Sam Goody or Suncoast store in the entire country. Your points are safe.

I saw a huge going out of business banner and signage in the windowsm, didn't go in though. Maybe i'll call tomorrow and find out what the deals are.
Well, I just got back from MediaPlay in Sterling Heights MI. The store was packed with people and the store was well stocked with banners and such. I hit the figures first 10% off. Blah..I then hit the used games 10% there if you want Copies of Project Eden for Ps2...Then The normal game Isle.

10% off all regular games and the area. No further promotions. that was all $8.99 1-2 weeks earlier is now back to $19.99-$29.99 with 10% :censored:smacked on it. I asked the girls when The final closing will be and they said mid to late January, They arent telling employees and the Prices will DROP big time (quoting her) after Christmas. SO your better off waiting. Im still gonna hit it every weekend. Its nice there is no refunds so Thats less of a crowd there after X-mas.

(systems were behind the counter but had 10% off those which is pretty good)
That's bad advice if you like anime at all... most of the box sets will be thouroughly pillaged before the end of the year. (Perhaps even the end of the week).

While most of the DVDs and even sets are overpriced, there are a few that slip through the cracks.... I picked up the entire series of Please Teacher for about 2 dollars more than most stores and websites are charging for one volume of it. (The series is 4 volumes).

Of course, I wouldn't buy single disks until they hit a minimum of 40% off.
How much are the music books and instruments???
Sheet music and tab books are 40% off.
anybody know what games are at now? 2 weeks ago they were at a whopping 10% off.
As of this afternoon, still 10%. An employee said the next drops are most likely to occur next week, seeing how they expect to be closed in a month.

I talked to an employee about the video games; he said that they're going to stay at only 10% off. He looked like a douche bag, though. Maybe he's wrong.

That's crazy. I can't see how they would go above 60% off because they're so expensive but only cutting them down 10% would leave a shitload of stock still left unsold.

If I've heard correctly, MP has to liquidate their inventory or at least a certain percentage of it. So theoretically, if enough of the inventory stays in the store long enough it could be as much as 90% off.

As a note, there was another drop today to 30-50% off most things (I think games were still at 10%) -- just heard from a friend who went when they opened this morning.

Media Play in Charlotte, NC didn't have too much left. And what they did have didn'y seem like a good deal to me. PS2, Gamecube, PSP, XBOX games were all 20% off. Everything seemed overpriced, so by the time you took off the discount, you could buy it for that price anywhere, on any day. No deals at all. Good ridance Media Play.

Just back from a Media Play in SLC and games are at 20% off - except PC games, which are at 30% off.

people were flocking to Media Play here even though deals arent any good at all. u gotta love how americans will buy something just as long as they think they are saving money. there is a local electronics store here that has been "going out of business" for 6 months, i walked in there during the summer when the sign outside said "last week, everything must go", i ask for a quote on a pair of klipsch speakers, he tells me they are 40% off and is down to his last pair, the price was $50 more than best buy was charging.

on another note, why are books only 20% off!!!

The sale is pretty bogus at this point, they say and advertise everywhere that everything is 30-50% off but when you get in the store most items are only 20% off which is outright lying at least i think so, if they say it starts at 30% then thats where it should start.

Books are still expensive at 20% off (that is off the cover price, so if it says 7.99 on the cover, then its 20% off that), you can get a better deal on books almost anywhere.

The used section here doesnt even look like its been touched, which makes sense since you cant return if its scratched or doesnt work, if i was gonna buy something used i would open it in the store to check the disc and i wouldnt even care. Its not like they are gonna refuse to sell it to you cause they are going out of business and want the stuff gone.

Games are at 20% here

Christmas stuff is still 40%

Anime stuff is 30%

Dvd's are 30%

There really hasnt been much of a change in the markdowns for the second wave, i suspect the prices will start falling rapidly after christmas.

Went by the Media Play in Mt. Zion, GA.

They had a lot of Dickies' guitar straps for only $1.50 each.
Music was 30% off, there's still a very good collection of CDs.
Games were 20% off IIRC
DVDs were way overpriced, even after the 30% off, but the used DVDs were very reasonable. Definitely worth checking out, most are priced at $7 after the discount.

The entire stock was a wreck. There was a lot of quality stuff, but much of it was out of alphabetical order. So if you're waiting for the prices to drop even lower, don't get your hopes up on a particular item, you may want to go ahead and pick it up.

Hey Pope, that's right down the road from me. I stopped in about a week ago and everything was still pretty expensive. I mostly looked at the PSP stuff, but it was only 10%. I'm gonna check again on monday, hopefully things will really start going down then.

Yeah I went in and noticed the same horrible deals that everyone else did. Psychonauts for the PS2 was a nice 40 dollars after their clearance sale compared to the 9.98 copy you can get at TRU which is staying in business. Anyway the only things I did see were Quake 4 for 35 dollars and F.E.A.R. for 35 dollars if you have to have these games for Christmas presents then it's a good deal. If you're in no rush to play either well then yeah those games are going to be less than 35 dollars by next Holiday season.

I picked up Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Xbox for 16.99 if it goes to 30%+ off oh well still cheaper then most places I've found it for. And it looks like they are pulling stock out of the stores now or are just selling a lot of stuff.

I actually noticed the complete opposite...
I saw the used DVDs (anime) still marked for TWICE what the exact same product still new and wrapped was going for.

There are great deals to be found... but you need to know your prices.
Most of the sales do suck, and are close to normal retail... but there are quite a few gems... and those won't last to the higher tiers of markdowns.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'm going to swing out tomorrow. (I just haven't had a chance to this week.)

I haven't been to a Media Play in years. The last time I was there, I was buying the first Spider-Man game for the PS2 and I paid with a check. It was check number 500-something, and I heard the cashier ask the nearby manager if 500 was higher than 300. NO LIE!!! THIS is the cashier, and he needed to ask that? I'm not surprised they are going under.

(For those wondering, most places won't take "starter checks," so they would take checks that are numbered lower than 100 or 200.)

I went last week to the Media Play going out of biz sale (MI, shelby). Deals were pretty crappy to say the least, all games were 10 % off and the prices were higher than most stores so you weren't saving much.

guess I'll go again to c if prices changed..

Last time i went to Media Play here near detroit there was lots of stuff left, and according to my friend they are going to not be closing for maybe another 5 weeks. Maybe by that time they'll drop big time

Nearest store:

Media Play
Family Center
Orem UT 84058
(801)221-2993 (632.15mi.)

You are SERIOUS about YMMV...

That's what my niece's friend told me as well (And I still wanna get the ATHF season 4 for $15). I'll probably hit the Taylor, MI one or the Livonia one (even though it is smaller).

I'm just looking to replace a bunch of my PS2 stuff. I started an advice thread here:

I stopped in after work todayat Morrow GA, and the gaming stuff was at 20% off, and anime was at 30. I'm waiting for payday and I'll pick up the Trigun collectors set.

When I was there on Wednesday, hardware was 20% off, but there wasn't much of it left.

Also note that while new console games were 20% off, used games and pc games were 30% off.
