Madris

Puzzle
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No

Theme: Other

Madris is a puzzle game that plays like a variation of Tetris, where each block is either a room or a corridor for you to arrange somewhere on the screen. Some of the rooms will have occupants in them, and your task here is to join up rooms or corridors so that these people can get to the amenities that they desire.

Every time an occupant reaches a room indicated by his bubble thought, all interconnecting rooms linked to his destination are removed from the field as well. You can use the down arrow key to make a tile reach the bottom faster, and holding down the same button after a block is placed also speeds up the character's walking animation.

Coil

Adventure
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No

Theme: Weird

Coil is an experimental "autobiographical" game that plays out more like a song or painting then an actual "game". I was basically trying to create an experience that put the player into an open minded space and let them question not only what the game was about, but what a game can actually be.

Megazell's Comment - Below are 2 versions of the game. One version is available on STEAM and requires that you have STEAM installed (with a free account of course). The other is the flash based version of the game. Though the STEAM listing has it under demo it is actually a full game. Check out of the developers sites here - http://edmundm.com/

Website Spotlight

Newgrounds

27yzfrl.jpg

Newgrounds is a website started by the American citizen Tom Fulp. Its offices are headquartered in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Created in 1995, the site primarily hosts Adobe Flash animations and games, but also features a music-oriented page, along with an art portal. The site was created and is owned by Tom Fulp who still oversees numerous aspects and regularly produces in-house and out-house content. Newgrounds is the oldest and is a more distinguished website than other Flash websites by its automated submission and rating system, as it was the first website in history to produce a fully automated user-generated content system.

Megazell's Comment - This was one of the first flash site I ever came to back in the day. To this day it still one of the best. I find myself going back to it quite often and not always for the games...some of the short animations are excellent and worth a look at.
NP. Hope you found something you like.

I've been bogged down with RL and LOTRO and Vindictus have taken over the little free time I have. I highly recommend those 2 MMOs if anyone has the time.

I have about 430 other games to overview and post up when I can.
I just picked up Vindictus today. Typical of all Korean MMO's, this is grind-tastic. The controls are really tight, and it really highlights the power of the Source engine.

I just wish that it had more variety with the quests, since they all tend to cycle through the fetch and kill quest types a lot.

I'm only 5 hours in the game, so maybe it'll become better when I hit lvl 20+ or something.

I think I had about the same amount of time as you have with Vindictus. I play that game with a gamepad and it plays so smooth it is truly astounding. I had to put all MMOs on the back burner for now but did you try hunting down some of the rare encounters? The fighting mechanic changes greatly when you encounter monsters that are larger then the average units you come across.

Grub Lite

Theme: Science Fiction

Grub Lite is a light version of a game I developed last year. I figured that I had almost a whole game and that I could have it ready to show now if I ripped out all the complex features that had led to it getting shelved. In the game you play a little purple guy called Grub. He wants to eat all the little green bugs he can find. The only problem is that the bugs are often high up and Grub is too fat to jump. Luckily for Grub he is able to rotate the whole world 90 degrees, allowing access to all the lovely bugs Grub can eat!

Depict1

Action/Platformer
Single Player - Yes

Theme: Fantasy

depict1 is a game created for the Global Game Jam 2010. A vast majority of the game was created in just 48 hours, and some final touches were added on the days following the game jam. The theme of the Global Game Jam was "deception." depict1 places the player in an unknown world with a voice guiding them to safety, or so it seems.

Created by Kyle Pulver (with Alec Holowka providing the ditties), depict1 is a platformer which will hurt your head lots, but probably also make you smile too. An unknown announcer barks orders at you, which you need to follow... maybe. The whole game is pretty much an incredible mind-bork. Put it this way - you're asked to 'Press Nothing to Start', then told the arrows keys will control your character, which a second later you'll realize is a complete fabrication...

The game is a puzzle platformer and spans over 30 levels which can be played through in about 5 to 10 minutes.

Siamese Enemies

Theme: Fantasy

Your mother just want one baby.
You and your siamese brother must
therefore go to the hospital and
separate your bodies. On your way
to the hospital you will find
yellow shaking boxes in which there
are organs you can collect.

Depending on who collects the organ,
the organ will be on your side during
the operation. Your siamese brother
can steal your organ during the operation
but it's an advantage to collect the
organs since they appear on your side
of the screen (takes time for your
opponent to grab them).

The organs you insert will give you
different powers when racing back home
to your mother.

Thread Update.

All download links for the games and spotlights are working. With the exception of the games that are dead.

All screenshots and video links are working. Recently, Tinypic did some flushing and many screenshots were lost. They were replaced and/or removed all together.

Also - My Megaupload account hit a milestone for many of the games listed here. The $ that was gained from it when to donations to about 30 games on this list. When I have time tomorrow I will donate the rest to some of the other indie makers of the gems listed here.

Always use the primary link and try to use back up link in the event that the primary link is either not working or dead.

Good gaming, people!

Sombreros

Shooter/Vertical
Single Player - Yes

Theme: Western

Sombreros is an arcade shooter made for Arthur Lee's Action 52 remake challenge, where you play as a Mexican gunslinger who has to retrieve a couple of giant hats from the bad guys. Ammo is unlimited in the game, and you can also call upon your sombrero power to pause time and mark enemies for a round of quick fire shots. Doing this depletes your sombrero gauge, but you can replenish it by collecting hats from defeated outlaws.

You won't just be shooting at henchmen throughout the entire game. There are a number of occasions where you have to duel with one or more gunslingers, and some levels have doors that you have to break down before you can proceed. The obligatory boss fights are there as well, featuring gang leaders who can take more damage than the common criminal. - IndieGames

Grid shock is a project from about 4 years ago. Yeah, I know. However, since my Plaidnotion cohort had helped me establish an online highscore system for Shoot First, I began working more on this... this game. Well, here it is. It's old as hell, but it still inhabits a quaint nook in my blood pumper.

Features
Terrible voice acting
Co-op (if your friend has a dual analog joystick)
50 Waves of NON-STOP-ACTION
Characters with ATTITUDE
Explosions
Robots!
Out-dated spritework!

Theme: Science Fiction

it’s been said that given an infinite amount of time, an infinite amount of monkeys could write the complete works of shakespeare. it only takes one man one month to write the word “owned” an infinite number of times. that man is me.

here it is, my game, and the official start of the hurt feelings parade. chevyray and sophieh lead the charge right off a cliff. losers may follow their lead and vote themselves off a cliff.

before you continue, keep a few things in mind: A) this is a buggy game. here is a bad combination of things: a man who doesn’t know how to use a software being forced to use it under extreme time constraints. imagine this is your first time having sex (sophie/chevy: this won’t be very hard to imagine), you can hear your parents parking out front and your weiner is thrusting in your girlfriend’s belly button. that guy is basically me making this game. its not been playtested extensively, and there’s at least 2 ways i know that you can break the game by escaping the level. if you find this happening, press ‘r’ to restart the player at the last checkpoint.

B) the writing. it’s poor. under extreme duress my brain works in dick jokes and subtlety is not one of its finer points (also refers to my dick

Babel is a lovely platformer which uses the world rotation mechanic, allowing you to reach platforms that you couldn't before by switching planes.

It's really clever stuff, and strangely calming - the first few levels teach you the basics, and then you're throw right into the thick of it with castles to jump all over and trees to climb. There are 13 levels in total, and the whole thing will take you around 20-30 minutes to complete. You can see from Paul Eres' video above that it can be a little tricky to work out exactly what where you're meant to be going, but it's very satisfying when you finally work out the answer. - IndieGames.com

The creature is a PC platform, adventure, 2D scrolling game that uses Unreal Engine 3.

You begin life as a simple rolling ball, but through completing worlds gain eyes, then legs, then horns... and having some good solid fun all the while. Adding body parts allows you to access new worlds in the main hub area, and each world has three levels to beat, and then a short boss battle. The controls can be a little fiddly and you'll spot the occasional bug here and there, but in general The Creature is really well made and enjoyable. - IndieGames.com

Roulette is a one-button game which sees you sat at a table playing a game of Russian Roulette. You and your opponent take it in turns to point the gun at your head and pull the trigger. Firing the gun is done by holding down the space bar on your turn.

The whole thing is made up of dozens of video clips strung together, with a dark graphical effect over the top. It's really shocking stuff - I found myself gritting my teeth and watching out of the corner of my eye every time the trigger was pulled. The outcome is completely random, as are the reactions from your competitor, hence each game is different. - IndieGames.com
I just saw this and it was probably posted a page or two back, but I have CAG settings set to 50 messages per page so sue me, but this is pretty cool. I used to love/play City of Heroes heavily several years ago, before I got mainly into WoW. I'll send this to some of my friends. I'm sure they'll be pleased.
City Of Heroes was one of the few games that I devoted a lot of time to it. I spoke about it in another thread here on CAG. To this day it has a lot of good things going like the ability to exmp down to an earlier level so that you can play with a new player/friend without them getting a negative penalty. I believe all MMORPG should have that. When they took out base raids it was a dead game for me and my crew.

Hopefully, Champions whets my appetite for sci-fi MMORPG gaming because a lot of other MMORPGs are great but sooner or later because they are fantasy based I lose interest.
