Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

Shit, now I need to track down MGS Collection (could borrow my friend's 360 copy but want to "transfar" my Peace Walker completion/troops etc) AND a new hdd (definitely don't have that much free space, haha).

This patch be getting expensive :D

Not sure if you want the collection to 'play them in order,' but I would say it's not really necessary. MGS is an amazing series, but storywise Kojima is the David Lynch of video games - a lot of pretentious bluster masquerading as narrative genius.

Anyone having any problems with the install? The patch downloaded fine but now when I try the install it stays at 0%. The snake animation freezes every 5 seconds or so...
8 play throughs for plat. yikes.
You have 90 platinums should be a walk in the park for you.

Sucks we finally get trophies and they're all for completing obscure objectives in the game. When trophies become work, they get ignored. For shame.

Replay them in order. Have them all already, but have wanted the "HD" collection, and been looking for an excuse to replay MGS4. I know the stories are overrought insanity, but sue me I love em. MOAR cutscenes! (actually serious here. I really enjoy the rediculousness :D )

woah, woah! I didn't get that you wanted to replay them in order, not sure how I misread it, but hey. To each their own.

I've always enjoyed playing through the MGS games. It's just after the fact that I sit down and say, "Wait, what?!" I can't ask for much more from videogames.

The HD collection is pretty amazing though, I really wish I had my copy here with me at the moment.

This. I actually liked MGS1 & 2 in terms of the conspiracy behind it. 3 was a little out there and 4's story was god awful.

4 definitely had the best gameplay IMO, if you ignore that final final final boss fight.

Also, protip: Don't have your txt alert be the "!" alert sound. I kept spazzing out thinking I was getting detected while playing Peace Walker, haha.
lol I've had this as my text alert for years. Now I will keep thinking I'm getting lots of text messages during gameplay

Trying for No Kills/No Alerts really makes me wish this game had a quick restart button instead of having to quit/reload. Oh well, I'm near the end of Act 1 right now, trying to take my time and get all the Weapons/Songs/Extras that I can right now. If I can get the 2 special items, I'll be good to go for more playthroughs.

how many plats i have doesnt mean i enjoy playing through a game 8 times for a plat
Is this retro active like warhawk was ? Or am I starting from scratch ?
not retro active

You start from scratch. You have to make sure that you start a new game and you aren't given any extra weapons/items at the start, otherwise you'll have to delete some stuff and start over.

Just
got the Frog Figure and Trophy
so one hard part is down. Although I'm a bit concerned I may have gotten an Alert from one guy. He turned around, Alert went up, I tranq'd him, music started playing then it went away. So I might have to redo a large portion of the Act if that's the case.

If MGS1 had 4's gameplay and graphics, it'd be the greatest game of all time.
The update is 517 MB, so that sounds suspect.
Just putting the info out there that I found. ;)

They might have updated the patch already, dunno or the source was wrong, no idea. First thing that popped up when I went to google.

Edit:

http://n4g.com/news/1053174/metal-g...-in-japan-download-and-install-sizes-revealed

Confirms the 517MB patch size, no idea why the discrepancy from the other sites, JPN version maybe?

I don't think it does. I'm pretty sure I used a password or two, and I got the trophy for patting down a dude within the first 5 minutes of playing.

Hmm...I never had enough Drebin points to buy the infinite ammo item. I might have to play through again for the trophies and hopefully enough points.

I did play through several times before just to earn enough points to buy the camouflage item.

Complete the game with no kills = Infinite Ammo
Complete the game with no alerts = Stealth Camo

Waste of time earning enough DP to buy them. If I remember correctly, you'll need 2-3 full playthroughs to get that much DP unless there's some exploit/glitch I dunno about.

8 playthroughs for plat = Me saying F*k it. Not worth it but there's already a good plat guide for everyone who wants a challenge ----> http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/me...-metal-gear-solid-4-trophy-guide-roadmap.html

That was quick!

Author of the guide doesn't even really need to get the platinum, but he looked at the requirements for the onerous trophies like the all iPod songs and the fact that you need to get all emblems and you can conclude you need to beat the game 8 times.

Like I mentioned elsewhere I think the best course is to do a first playthrough to get all the reg. trophies, then beat the game on Extreme, without trying to get BBE, just to stock up on ammo and stuff, THEN start yout BBE playthrough.

As I recall you basically need the Solar Gun or you're going to be super frustrated.
