Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
You don't get to play as solid snake in 3 either...
But, we weren't tricked into thinking we would. ;)

I actually liked what Kojima was trying to accomplish by switching to Raiden. The only problem was, Raiden was a lot less likeable as he could have been, too whiney emo, and his girlfriend Rosemary was just as whiney.

However, the concept of seeing Snake through the eyes of another, less experienced, character is a good one. The only problem was, the character you saw him through wasn't as likeable as Snake, and Snake wasn't around enough to feel like he had a presence in the game.

Good to see that Raiden has grown up in MGS4

Small spoiler about two characters that'll appear in MGS4
And despite how whiney Rosemary was, I'm still interested in how she'll react to what's happened to Raiden.

Oh, and Mai Ling is smoking hot in her navy outfit, and look, she's all grown up.

She won't care about what's happened to Raiden so long as he remembers her goddamned birthday.

The affiliate link changing fucks everything up for me, so I had to just copy and pase the url. Mine's doing it, so I'll be getting my CE that Wednesday night.

Ive decided to get the standard version off amazon with the limited guide. I wonder if Ill come to regret not getting the limited bundle from gamestop.

None of these links are working anymore. And does anyone know if they'll have the bundle available for the midnight release? MGS4 doesn't do me a whole lot of good until I can get a PS3.

To get link to work, type gamestop.com then add the line below to the end of it:

/gs/landing/mgs4/MGS4Midnight.pdf

It (system bundle) has the same release date right? I'd ask the local store but they usually are clueless on such things sadly.

NVM, I got the link to work. Copying and pasting did the trick. Sadly there's no midnight release for either of the 2 EBs within walking distance of my place, and since I don't have a car busing it across town at that hour with a $500 purchase sounds troublesome. I usually get Thurs off, so I'll just get there early in the morning.

i'll be gettin a regular copy from BB with my $10 gift card from their Circuitcity pricematch + $10 in reward zone certs :D

Will also hope for some 10% off media coupon to show up during the release time lol
I'm shocked my city isn't on that list. 3rd biggest in IL. And we have like 5 Gamestops.
What part if IL are you from? I'm near Downers Grove and they have 2 stores doing the midnight launch (the 2 stores are on separate sides of a street, weird placement of stores)

Good thing the store I preordered at is doing the midnight launch.

I'm surprised the MGS2 DGN's just now coming out in Japan and that it may not even come on UMD. I loved the first one and would be bummed if they don't give the second one similar treatment.

Northern IL, Rockford.

In Aurora, there are 2 Gamestops across the street from each other, almost mirroring each other. It's quite bizarre.

Gamestops are the next starbucks. Ive seen an ebgames and a gamestop inside the same mall before. Its ridiculous.

We have two Gamestops in one mall here. Different floors though, so it is okay right?

Also there are two pretty much right next to each other, both on one end of an L shaped shopping center! Good for flipping multiple copies though as I can walk from one to the other for credit.

agreed. if it dosn't get a PSP release I hope they at least release it as a UMD movie.
Well, his forum title is Grandmaster of Official threads, and he's earned it.
Then it's very sad.

Eurogamer's review is up. Oli give it an 8/10. I'm sure fanboys will cry afoul, but his review makes perfect sense and I'm still planning to buy a PS3 for it.

Without going into spoilers he basically says that it's a very bloated game bursting with ideas, but not all of them good. The plot, he says, is a muddled confusing mess, but it's told with such style that you'll feel for the characters even if you don't quite understand everything that's going on. He also says the cutscenes drag on way too long and are boring at times. However, he says that there are a lot of surprises in store and some really brilliant ideas in the second half that you can tell he's just dying to talk about, but can't because then he'd spoil it for everyone.

I'm still as intrigued as ever though. His complaints ring true of MGS3 as well where the storytelling is really padded and unnecessarily long-winded, yet replaying the game, skipping all but my favorite cutscenes, has proven to be some of the finest moments in gaming I've had in the last several years. I expect MGS4 to also be a bit of a slow burner, but will have excellent replay value, so I'm still in for sure.

So basically he's critical of the things that are standard MGS fare by now. I can respect the 8/10 review for his honest opinion, I just don't care about his criticisms because Metal Gear Solid wouldn't be what it is without those elements.

Although I wouldn't mind if whoever did the next metal gear series took a more Western approach to dialog, plot, and cinematics.

Exactly! So if you're a Metal Gear fan and don't mind those aspects of the series then it'll likely be at least a 9 for ya, but we can't just have Metal Gear fans reviewing Metal Gear games or we'd run into the GTAIV fiasco all over again.

That I gotta agree with. GTA was not an all 10 game, but I can certainly see how some people who don't think its flaws were all that important would give it a 10.

Either way it was still a great game.
