Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
I just played MGS4 for the first time for 3 hours and my thoughts are....

+MGS4 is mayb e a 7 out of 10

+Why did I buy a PS3 just for this

+Metal Gear Online is very boring, no skill needed, camping

I hope MGS4 gets better
Did you play the previous 3 MGS games and did you enjoy them (and more importantly, the story)? If so, MGS4 will be awesome.

If not, you're going to be one lost puppy.

In all fairness, I didn't much care for the first act. I think what it came down to was that all of the trailers, previews, etc were inundated with the Middle East theme and I felt that I had already played that part of the game. It gets better, whether you are an MGS fan or not. The degree to which it gets better is going to be based on your experience with the previous games and the Metal Gear story.
I'd like to know, as well, seeing as I don't have a DS3, either. That entire sequence was funny as hell, by the way.
I played the game with a Dualshock 3 and it was awesome.

The defining moment was
VIBRATION IS BACK HAHAHAHAHA!

I don't know if that's the same thing you saw but it was really awesome.

I played MGS1 & Beat it and LOVED IT

I played MGS2 and I liked it but gave it up 3/4 of the way through it

I played MGS3 and I dident like it, played the first %10 of it
I don't know why you bought a PS3 for a series you barely like.

All of the game's story will go over your head.
CURSE THAT DAMN HYPE TRAIN!!!

About Screaming Mantis

Anyone else turn on a second controller. Haha, that was fucking awesome. I didn't know what to do so I turned on a second controller and Otacon is like you can't do that anymore. Man that was awesome.

Yea, MGS4 was really made for the MGS fan in mind.

I'm so sick of hearing these people that aren't even interested in mgs and dislike the games reviewing it...

MGS4 definitely wont change anyones minds and its really only for the hardcore fans.

I saw Hideo Kojima as the voice of god in the credits. When was he heard?
And it's crazy how much that one trailer revealed about the game. I remeber someone from Kojima saying, "I wouldnt have shown that trailer" and he was right.

The REX vs RAY fight was awesome

Just finished Act 4....

Raiden is dead...

*preps his Darth Vader voice*

Noooooooooooo.

But hey, maybe the next game will be about Raiden between the time of the Manhattan incident and MGS4. Gotta be some decent story behind the cyborg suit. Vamp & Raiden were my two favorite characters of MGS2. I really wish the final battle between the two was a straight FMV rather than that stupid splitscreen thing. The first battle they had in the game was really cool.

To those talking about needing previous experience with Metal Gear to enjoy this, I disagree. I haven't played the series since the original Metal Gear Solid and am LOVING this game, I also don't feel lost in the story either. Excellent game so far :applause:

I thought I would be more into the story, but the gameplay is really blowing me away. I've been killing at least an hour in each set piece just messing around, looking for ways to screw with the PMC. Act 2 just before meeting
Naomi
was especially awesome.

I'm hoping there's some good 'ol corridor sneaking ala MGS2 coming up though.

story spoilers:
I just got past the convo with Naomi...so basically, this is Blade Runner. Kojima is not some genius story teller, he's just a guy who really like movies...I mean, in case anyone couldn't figure that out by now

MGO can blow me.

Seriously. I was shooting this guy who wasn't moving clean in the fucking neck, and he still was able to kill me. I couldn't have gotten the aim more perfect. I was ripping the jugulars out him for at least one second straight, and he still killed me. Ridiculous.

I think you are going to need to stop playing MGS4 and go back and finish 2 and 3 before you can really have any judgment on 4.

Lol. I nearly bought a xbox360 cause of the Halo hype train and I hate that game.

Silly rodent.

I am having a lot of fun with Metal Gear Online.

Maybe it has to do with me being the number one player in the match most of the time, haha.

I think MGO would be a lot better if there were more people chatting. I was the only person with a microphone in that last match.

Is it just me or is CQC a bit wonky? Or it might be because I don't really know what button does what when it comes to CQC.

No way to communicate with your teammates really kills the online aspect for me. The online mode would be AMAZING if at least half the people playing had headsets. Too bad that is not the case.

Maybe they do have headsets but they just don't have chat turned on?

I think the main problem is (aside from you being forced to enable voice chat) that even when people have headsets they just don't talk anyways.

You can actually see if they have a headset. If there is a microphone next to your name then you have a headset.

You can press select to talk like Halo 3 or you can hold select and turn voice chat on permanently.

When you talk in the menu screen, then your cone blinks with 3 lines to indicate you are talking.

When you are talking in game a box with your name pops up on the left hand of the screen.
can anyone help me with the stamina kill for

Psycho Mantis doll. It worked for me. They both go down at the same time, but Stamina goes down a sliver before health does.

Should be on permanently to begin with. And from the games I've played, at least half of the people had mics but no one talks.

ok thx... just making sure :)
Did anyone get the MGO clan up and running?
You need 20 hours played in MGO and a level three before you can start a clan, so probably not.

How the hell do you use the Tanegashima. Seriously I spent all my drebin points on it and I can not fire the hurricane. Help I want to see this mass carnage.

Yeah, like the beta Frisky is on duty for that.

Yeah, the requirement's too large for me to get a clan going right away, especially with MGS4 right there that I'd like to finish, as well.

I was thinking of a method in which I can get to 20 hours without having to actually spend 20 hours playing, which would require at least one other person who is willing to give up some time doing nothing. The idea would be for me to create a locked room for 99 minute matches and give out the password and just not do anything. It would be a huge timesink, but it would get things done more quickly than just whenever it happens naturally for me.

It's too bad you can't upload pics to the version of the MGO Community site that's available within MGO and have to go back to the XMB to use the browser there to do it.

didn't realize this, but in the extras section after you beat the game a password option shows up.

also, there's an option on the MGO website that intrigues me: on the left sidebar of the site there's a grayed out option for "reward point trade shop"...

hmmm... I'm guessing down the line points will be used to unlock stuff? interesting.
Should be on permanently to begin with. And from the games I've played, at least half of the people had mics but no one talks.
They may be talking, but it's hard to hear. When my mic is on, it only picks up about half the things I say, or I have to press the mic closer to my mouth. In CoD4 it works fine, I can hear naes and mana and everybody else and I know they can hear me.

I'll sit in a room right now if you want. MGO title screen is on right now and I am on the Spore Creature Creator Demo. So let me know if you want to do that soon.

Now i know im going to get killed for this but..... im almost through act 1 and im really not enjoying this game at all. I try my best to sneak and hide but i get caught in every possible situation. im trying so hard to love this game like i did every other metal gear ever and im feeling disapointed. i guess im asking you guys to try and tell me what im missing, like what am i doing wrong.

Yea, MGO takes some serious getting use to in the Love and Skill department.

When I first started the beta I hated it. And was so frustrated by everyone kicking my ass when I swore I had a perfect head shot on their asses. But eventually I started to get real good, and could easily dispatch groups of enemies with simple headshots. It's a pretty fun game, but it takes some investment to get any fulfillment out of it.

You can fix this by going into the options while you are playing MGO. It has quite a few microphone options to mess with.

You can also mess with the microphone options in the microphone menu in the PS3 XMB.
How do you chat in MGO?
Like this:
You can press select to talk like Halo 3 or you can hold select and turn voice chat on permanently.
I am right in the middle of Act 4
having a super awesome nostalgia trip.
.

I am convinced this is God's gift to gaming. I haven't had a grander time with a game since.. Hell, maybe MGS3.

I know communication is a big part of online gaming, but the lack of mics doesn't really bother me. I know everyone loves the fact that most people on XBL have mics (because MS bundles them in with a lot of other products), but frankly, for every person I encounter who uses it for strategy and such, you get five other idiots babbling about nothing.

Exactly. Everyone says, "Ugh, PS3 is so lame cause not everyone has mics". Yet that is one of the main reasons why I like to play online on the PS3, because you don't get to hear 10 year old kids and racist pricks. I think the solution to eliminating that IS to not give everyone the ability out of the box to do it. So those that try hard to get a mic are those that are serious about the game and will be the ones that try to do strategy.

If you want to join me in a game right now, add Solid Tanuki to your friends list and click on Jump Into Game or whatever it says when you click my name.

Get through Act 1 as quickly as you can. Although I found it fun, it does not even compare to the rest of the game.

During the beta I played a match where it was 2 vs 2, and my teammate had a mic and we were able to strategize, and point out enemy location. It was tight work, so I definitely agree with your point. But even with there being limited mic use, there's still that prick out there... waiting, chattings.. annoying...

If I, lord of sucking ass at stealth can beat Act 1 on Hard with 0 kills and only 6 Alerts, I'd say keep trying. Take it slow. Wait on the rebels to clean up the PMCs for you, and knock people out as needed.
