Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
It's becasue
I think it's Big Boss that says it at the end of 4, but body parts of Liquid and Solidus were used to heal him. It explains why Solidus had no legs when you see him (when Eva shows him to you thinking it's Big Boss)
I'm talking about what happened to Big Boss between Metal Gear 1 & 2. Solidus & Liquid were still alive.
I'm guessing after their second fight they got rid of the robot components then used human parts of his clones. It's just they never mentioned that robot stuff.

I hated Act 3.
Let's follow a guy, that is not fun gaming. I kept getting stuck in the part for an hour, since I would kill guards and they would go on alert and than he would run away and come back and run away again and than come back over and over.
I have a thread about this in the Old-School section but I though I'd share with you guys as well. I just beat Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and near the end I found out some pretty odd things. There are spoilers for both MGS4 & MG2 so be careful.

I don't see how Big Boss could've survived what Snake did to him. He pretty much set him on fire and Big Boss burnt to a crisp then exploded. And during the last boss fight one of your codec contacts (Keslar) informs you that after your first encounter with Big Boss he was found with no arms, no legs, missing an ear and an eye. He continues to say because of his missing limbs he's pretty much half robot  This is something that was never mentioned in the Solid games. Plus Big Boss lost his eye in Snake Eater. It just didn't connect smoothly

I highly recommend this game to any fan, simply for a Metal Gear history lesson. The only flaw is the back tracking. So I recommend a faqs to minimize needless wondering.
According to the MGS Database, Big Boss was brought back to life by Dr. Madnar, as the first test subject for the Snatcher Project.

I did that my first playthrough, I didn't even start killing till about half an hour of being stuck in the park. Just annoying the guy kept running forward to get away, and than run all the way back to the middle of the park ten seconds later when there are guards all over the place still, and rinse and repeat.

Just finished my first run thru the game last night. I can't wait to start my second run. Awesome story. Now I just need to decide how I wanna play it the second time. Do I want to go for a stealth tranq run or do I play with all the cool weapons I've collected an annihilate everything in my path?

The fight with Psycho Mantis was pretty cool. It's somewhat hard to get clean shots at the dolls. Once you take them out it's a breeze.

I played this game for 2 hours in some ridiculous warzone with a never ending stream of bad guys or ....not bad guys...Who should I shoot? "Oh it's you"....Are you on my side? Whats going on? WHere do I go? WHAT IS HAPPENING THIS GAME IS TERRIBLE! Playstation 3 shut down for another year and a half (Not)Metal Gear 4 traded in towards Madden on 360. What a joke. When did MG turn into a shooter? No sneaking whatsoever. Endless supply of rations and millions of rounds of ammunition. I remember a fun game wheere you snuck up behind someone pissing and broke there neck. This game is a giant :(

Well he is a Packer's fan after all so I wouldn't expect him to get this game...

Just messin' with ya, As a Bears fan I had to do it :)

I've heard that it turns into metal gear at some point but there are tooo many games to play. too many to "wait" for a game to start. It does look really good though.

I hate to say it, but you're doing it wrong. Just because you can shoot people, and let them reappear endlessly, doesn't mean you should. You're supposed to be sneaking, just because you aren't, doesn't mean there isn't any stealth.

Having enjoyed the MGS series since playing the PS1 version, I was looking forward to this game. I wasn't super hyped since it took so long to come out that all that hype had faded away. Just the feeling of looking forward to playing this entry in the series. For reference, I skipped MGS3 because the gameplay details I read about in the previews didn't sound like my idea of fun, so I'm not sure if this game is supposed to be a continuation of the gameplay model that was used in MGS3 or not.

So far I've only played to the part where (spoiler tags just to be 100% safe)
the four metal gear bosses laid waste to those militia guys
and I'm not having as much fun as I'd hoped I would've. The gameplay while different, still feels like the MGS that I remember. There's just something nagging me that is detracting from the overall experience. I realize I'm still in Act 1 but still, the other MGS games always had me drawn in rather easily early on.

After my thought, I've pinpointed the source of what's bothering me to the setting. I really don't like Middle Eastern settings. Their architecture is boring, they remind me of all the boring FPS games that have similar settings like CoD 4 (yeah I'm part of the 1% of the population that doesn't like that game), and they remind me too much of real life when I'm trying to escape it for a little bit. I'm sure Hideo Kojima made it a Middle Eastern setting on purpose as I can make a guess as to what message he's trying to get across with this game, but unfortunately for me it just isn't fun to play. It's really a disappointment since I was hoping to enjoy Solid Snake's last game, but with such a bland setting, I'm not sure I can bring myself to continue playing this. :whistle2:(

- Now able to make Female Characters.
- 3 new stages including Shadow Moses, Mei Ling's Ship, and MGS1 Heliport.

-Head-shot Only Kills (Optional Rule)

taken from famitsu forums.

Oy, maybe I should've read more info/spoilers about this game after all. Thanks for the info guys. I'll force myself to suffer through whatever is left of act 1.
You should have tried tranq guns.
And yea when I said not killing anybody I meant what Frisky said.
Imagine you were the guy sneaking around, then all of a sudden you saw dead people poppin up left and right. I'd be right shitting my pants right about then if I were him lol.

I lol at the people who only play so much of the game then make their judgements on the rest of the game based on their brief experience. I'm glad you guys aren't the ones writing reviews.

The game essentially takes a little bit of the old (or maybe a whole lot you could say), a little bit of the new, and melds it into one orgasmic gaming experience (minus the wet pants). After playing through the rest of the game, there's no doubt that it's definitely a metal gear solid game. I'd like to see the shooters get past the ship area with guns ablaze (I'm sure it's possible, but I got overwhelmed the first time around, so I ended up doing it the stealth way lol).

Like somebody said before, just because they give you the option to shoot 'em up, doesn't mean you *have* to shoot 'em up. That's the beauty of the system, it's completely up to you how you want to play the game.

I got killed a few times during my first playthrough because I tried to pick up every dropped item. I just can't resist all the weapons dropped by the soldiers getting mowed down in the streets.

i just fought
laughing octopus
if her bombs blow up and kill the frog members does that count as a kill for me? i didnt shoot at them they just blew up. and in the end when shes in human form i tranqed her till about a tiny bit was left then she grabbed me and i got strangled but i moved the Left stick over and over and hit triangle, is that a kill or does that take away from stamina?
please help me cause im on my big boss no kills/alerts/recovery

I was wondering that as well.
I was also wondering if Octopus doesn't kill off the tranqed frogs will they eventually wake up and come after you?

somebody told me that the frogs stay out for the entire fight.

As long as you don't directly shoot the frogs, the bombs can blow up right in their faces all they want. You can even shoot the bombs right next to the frogs (as long as your stray shots don't hit and kill them first. Use tranq or v-rings) and it won't count as a kill. *What I noticed from my normal no alert/no kill run*

and when you shake her off and toss her, that counts as a stamina move. You'll notice if you toss her off while you still have some life left, her stamina goes down rather than her life.

If you pick up the camera during the act 4 briefing, you get a set of Sunny and Naomi photos. The ones of the Beauties bending over you have to take yourself. :)

Ahh I see. I know about the beauties though, I got a ton of pics ;)

There was one really cool and unexpected result in one pic I took, I'll try and upload that one soon so I can show it. I thought it was really cool :D

im on act 3 now. 1 hr 48 mins to beat the first 2 acts. donno how ill crack 4hrs 30 mins.

in the end of act 2 i only had about half a CM left of health and dodged all the gekkos lol, do chaff grenades knock em out?

Thanks for the input RR. I want to play MGO more but having too much fun trying new things out in MGS. I'm already on my 3rd play through and still trying to get more emblems.

I think they do, since they take scarabs out, but you only pick up so many chaff grenades in each run of the game, and they're not for sale in Drebin's shop (or at least not yet in my shop?). I think I only picked up two total in one entire run, and that was at shadow moses.
If this was indirectly aimed at me, well that's exactly why I'm not a professional, or even GameFAQs, reviewer. I play games to have fun. If I was being paid to play a game, then yes I'd try to play through as much of the game as humanly possible until the review was due.

But like I said, I play games for enjoyment. If I'm not having fun, then I don't want to continue wasting my free time playing a game I'm not going to enjoy. Hence why I made my impressions post earlier since it seemed like everyone else was having a good time playing the game. Since I was informed that the setting does change after act 1, I now have something to look forward to. Prior to knowing that, I wasn't completely enjoying the game since I didn't like the setting, and didn't see the point in continuing since what little I had seen about the game had indicated that it all took place in the Middle East. Clearly, I was wrong about that, and I'm glad I was if that means having a good time later on.

EDIT: NVM, there wasn't a red star next to it like there usually is. I got the camos now.

I'm about 9:15 through my Chicken Emblem run and I'm still on Act 1
about to meet up with Rat Patrol 1
. So far I've done enough requirements for the
Scarab, Frog, Tortoise, Gecko, Blue Bird, Lobster, Eagle, Bee and Gibbon
emblems. I've found so many perfect spots in Act 1 just ripe for emblem getting. I'm like, okay, I'll wait here and kill some guys with this. Count it out, do a few extra, done, move on. I can't wait to see what I find for Act 2 secrets.

Oh, and I've been admired about 10 times by friendly soldiers so far by my guesses.

As soon as the boss battle starts, go prone under the stairs and wait. Make sure your octocamo is set, and put on the facecamo. Wait for Raven to fly by one of the windows in front of you and shoot her with a sniper rifle. She'll enter the building, but won't see you at first. Get a shot or two in, then get her and nail her with a shotgun. I did this anytime I needed to regain health during the fight, and it worked really well for me.

They don't. I assume you picked up the ones at the end of the gekko sequence? Make sure to get the set at the helipad on
Shadow Moses
in Act 4. I believe I used 3 or 4 when I did my Fox run on Solid Normal. I'll run em down:

1. Act 4. In the building immediately after the Wolf boss battle, jump over the railing in front of you and start towards the door on the right. On your way, throw a chaff. As soon as you get the codec, book it up the stairs on the left and then over the railing to be in front of the door you need to leave out of.

2. Act 4. Later, when you enter the hallway before with the holes in the floor and the stairs leading to the door with a scarab above it. Throw one as soon as you enter and go towards the door.

3. Act 5. At the very end, after the Mantis fight, some will drop done on the walkway. Throw one. You may need to throw another after it wears off.

just beat the boss fight. still at 0 everything :D
2 hrs 35 mins. onto act 4....

on the boss fight on act 4... so many frrogs

You can go to the save menu and exit back to the title menu, then load from there. Best I can think of if that is what you're meaning.
Can anyone tell me why there is no load option in the pause menu? I mean, come on.
Because that would make too much sense.

Finished the game yesterday. Don't plan on trying to do every single thing in the game like a lot of you, it would just drive me insane.

It was a fun game, but towards the end it got kind of frustrating.
There were way too many damn enemies when boarding outer heaven. They spotted me right off the bat, forcing me to fight them all. Also, the fist fight with Ocelot was a pain, too.
It still wasn't enough to ruin the experience, though. The game was pretty killer. It completely validates my PS3 purchase.

Agreed. I wasn't even doing a 0 alert run or anything but there were times when I'd utterly fuck up a section and wind up spending what felt like 40 seconds getting back to the previous checkpoint via exiting all the way to the title screen.

I was thinking the same thing when I got to the final act:
I tried my best to sneak to the door at the back of the ship but I could never do it. Once the alert is sounded you are fucked. The hardest part was trying to kill off enough people to allow enough time to open that stupid door!

I noticed this when I started my no kills run this morning. I was originally going for no alerts/heath/kills but I just got to frustrated to do so. I am not looking forward to no kills on the final act.

I accidentally was listening to my iPod during Act 3's
motorcycle sequence
but I didn't realize it. All I thought was "Damn, Call Into the Night is an awesome song for this section!"

Then I felt a wee bit stupid.

After playing this game for the past month now I have to say this game doesn't quite live up to part 3. Graphically it is superior, controls to me are about the same in terms of good and bad aspects, but the story, music, and characters were as good as MGS3. Either way this is a great game and is probably my favorite game I have played this year or will play but it was kind of small let down in terms of story for me.
