Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
I was thinking the same thing when I got to the final act:
I tried my best to sneak to the door at the back of the ship but I could never do it. Once the alert is sounded you are fucked. The hardest part was trying to kill off enough people to allow enough time to open that stupid door!

I noticed this when I started my no kills run this morning. I was originally going for no alerts/heath/kills but I just got to frustrated to do so. I am not looking forward to no kills on the final act.
Got a bit frustrated the first couple of times cuz I would trigger an alert and the caution wouldn't go away, but luckily I found a way to get through stealthily. Helped quite a bit when I went through again for my no alert/no kill run. It's actually a very easy area to get through once you figure out a good path. It ended up being the easiest area for me to get through in my no alert/kill run since it's the shortest area of the game to get through and of course since I'd already done it.

Yeah, for act 5:

Go left and tranq EVERYONE. I used this guide from GameFAQs, and it was easy:

I know a lot of people probably think this would be one of the hardest areas in
the game but it's actually quite easy. If you do it right there's no chance of
detection at all. You do however need a decent aim to get through quickly.
After you regain control switch to the Mk22 and move to the left. Shoot the two
frogs and wait for them to fall asleep then move forwards.

Press against the crates and peek out with L1 and shoot them both. After they
fall over move forwards and perform a dive roll just past them. A single frog
will jump down. Take her out and keep crawling forwards. Two frogs will come
around the corner one by one. Take them out then stand up and run to where they
were. Move left and press against the massive pillar to get through the small
gap between the pillar and a crate.

Make sure that the gekko isn't looking when you move forwards. Keep going until
you reach the bit between the second and third pillars. Two more frogs will
drop down. Take them out and move to where they landed. A gekko should drop
down in front of you. Start crawling and tranq its legs. After it falls over
you should be free to open the door as the other gekko won't see you. If you find it keeps seeing you either tranq it or wait for it to turn away.

I actually pulled it off on my very first try. You can also use the rail gun on the Gekkos, if you wish.

Which mission briefing is the best to quickly check a save file's stats?

Edit: nevermind, choose Act 2 mission briefing, skip 2 cutscenes, then you can see your stats.

nope gekkos aren't kills

the way i did act 5 was
goin right. Tranq'd a guard in the walkway, waited for another one to jump away, waited for a third to get blown up by outside fire. Snuck along the boxes and tranq'd 3 or 4 frogs towards the other side of the deck. Once they were out, ran forward past the crates and climbed the ladder and stayed down to let a couple more frogs pass underneath. Climb up the second ladder and shimmy across the bar to the other platform.

Dive roll off onto the a/c chute or whatever that is in front of the platform. Walk slowly around the corner as there may be a frog on the walkway above. Wait for them to go away or shoot them, then walk underneath that walkway. There will be one more frog that drops down on the walkway right above you. Shoot from underneath at her crotch or wherever else you feel fit, then dive roll onto the balcony across from the chute. Run around the corner and go back down to the deck and hide, as two more frogs will jump down from that balcony you were just on.

Sneak along the side, going in between the column and crates, and watch out for the Gekko. Tranq the frogs on the far end of the deck, and proceed slowly as sometimes other frogs will notice the sleeping frogs, in which case just tranq them too. Go to the end and tranq the frog all the way up on the balcony on the other side if you want, though i don't think she will see you. Wait at the corner until a Gekko drops down, and it will be blown up by outside fire shortly after. If it doesn't, just railgun the sucker, and railgun the other Gekko as it'll probably notice.

Run up and open up the door and you're in!

Sounded kinda complicated while typing it out, but it's pretty easy. I also found this path to be pretty fun, mostly cuz you get to climb and shimmy and dive around places lol. This was on solid normal.

I did Act 5 by...
going to the left. I was on Normal and managed to do it with the tranq pistol without any alerts. The details are fuzzy by now but I know I didn't get spotted. It basically consisted of a couple sequences where I had to be quick with the tranq headshots although I had been doing them since Act 2 so by 5 I was pretty proficient.

I'm really tempted to go through the game again after reading everyone's posts but I don't think I have the patience for a no kill/no alert run.

GG's bigdaddybruce44. It was always one-sided when we were on the same team! I'm too tired or else I'd stay and up my kill ratio lol. Really felt bad for the other team.

Also, I always felt comfortable when you were next to me since you were watching my back.

Yeah, that team was terrible. It didn't help that the "Geo" guy had a 7/25 KD, and he kept babbling to us.

It was nice actually working with someone, instead of just running around on my own. When you were destroying us on during that UU game, I kept trying to tell my teammates you were setting up the mags and hiding in the alley, but it was like talking to a wall.

I'm doing well on my Chicken Emblem run thus far (check my blog for details). I'm on pace for beating the game in 55 hours! Wait, that's not good :( The last 2 runs I played combined totaled under 8 hours :( Argh!

Check my blog please.

I am on the
bike chase scene in act 3 on the boss extreme going for my big boss emblem.
. ANY TIPS WILL BE APPRECIATED FOR THIS MESS!

I had a hard enough time on that part on solid normal lol
Then my friend told me that I shoulda switched to auto-aim for that part. I'm sure that would have helped immensely.

I think smoke grenades can help here and there, I ended up trying to manually tranq as many people as I could and I managed to get through with like 1/3 of one bar of my life left lol.

I beat that and all of Act 4 and half of Act 5 today. Check my blog if you all could, to give me tips on a boss fight. Hopefully I can have my emblem tomorrow night!

ok last one, I DID IT, Big Boss Emblem! Yes!

Here's my question: On MGO pre-game lobbys with names of players, I know one column is clan tags ( I have the CAG $ ). But what is the yellow icons on the left? Is there any way for me to display my Big Boss status? Or how do I earn those things?

I see thanks.

I am trying to find a picture of the Big Boss Emblem background that you see when you are looking at the array of emblems when you complete a game. If you press R1 or mayby L1, you see an unobstructed version of the emblem. I want to get the big boss emblem picture as my PS3 background, but can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help me out? I don't have a digital camera, and want a real good version to put as my background.

I am only act 1 of my Boss Extreme run. But I know Eva doesn't have a health bar and you can press triangle to duck behind her,

Thank you, but I beat it all earlier this week.

Question for you all.

Why does the Big Boss facecamo have its left eye missing? Is it supposed to have something to do with the fact that Solidus' face/chest was used on the pyx and passed off as Big Boss'? It seems impossible to me to think that Kojima missed this detail, it must be intentional. Big Boss did lose his right eye and I am not insane, correct? *Is reading the MGS Database at this time*

Yea that was Solidus, and I think he had a patch on his left eye. Now that you mention that, I wonder how come none of the other characters noticed it? Surely Eva should have known?

I know I'm late joining in (I'm like 100+ pages behind on this thread), but I finally beat the game tonight... and wow, what a ride. It definitely had its hokey and ridiculous moments, but I still greatly enjoyed it. Not sure yet where it ranks with the other MGS for me, but I'm certainly satisfied. Might even do something silly, like play it a second time :p

Ending comments:
I'm pleasantly surprised with the pretty happy ending for Snake. I honestly wasn't expecting the game to end without his death. I guess I'm just easily strung along. Speaking of which, I was getting all teary-eyed at several moments when I thought someone was going to die... when like nobody died! I mean, I appreciate my favorite characters not biting the dust, but still...

I'm super pissed about Raiden's ending though. I can't believe he went back to Rosemary! *barf* They better makeup for this atrocity by giving us some Raiden games, preferably with Rosemary dying in one of them.

I hope they make a game revolving around the stuff that happened between MGS2 and MGS4. It'd be nice to see Sunny's backstory and a good excuse for some Raiden action.

That would definitely make a good metal gear solid 5. Showing some more of raiden (and his naked cartwheels) would be cool.

Wait, 2 separate concerns here. Mine is the Big Boss FACECAMO. The body on the pyxis
most definatly Solidus. EVA knew, this was revealed at the end. She and Ocelot planned this all together. My question is really why the "Big Boss" facecamo has its LEFT eye missing, when we all agree that Big Boss' RIGHT eye is missing. Unless the corpse face ( SOLIDUS' corpse face ) is supposed to be the joke on the facecamo.

Thoughts?

Just beat it a couple of days ago and watched the entire ending last night. MGS4 was a great introduction to the PS3 for me, even though it was my first MGS and I didn't know what the fuck was going on.

Well I guess that shows that I wasn't paying attention lol.

So you're talking about Solidus' "Big Boss" vs. the real Big Boss...I think. I'm pretty sure the facecamo is just supposed to be of "Big Boss", since there isn't one for Big Boss. Besides, you never see Big Boss as a red skull, so I think it's obvious that they are using Solidus' "Big Boss" as the camo.

Remember the last time Solid meet Big Boss? He torched him with a flamethrower. Thats why he probably look the way he does with that camo. They also mention that they found the burnt body of Big Boss with missing limbs and a eye. The missing eye is the left good eye of Big Boss. So my guess is that this camo is a special homage of the fight between Big Boss and Solid Snake in Metal Gear.

So during the fights in the original MG fight, Big Boss was missing his left eye? Can't be, because in MGS3, Naked Snake/Big Boss definately loses his right eye. He basically never loses his left eye that I can figure out. The only person that does is Solidus. And Solidus gets burned on the Pyx. So in my opinion the facecame is either A) an oversight B) A reference that I don't understand.
Whos geting the MGO expansion? I will for sure.
I kinda want to wait and hope they eventually release a compilation pack, but I don't know if I can hold out.
I was really thinking about holding off on the expansion, but then I saw that they were brining back Brown Town! I can't wait, now.
fuck yea, Brown town and CUS were my favorite maps. Though I'm kinda bored of MGO now, so I'm not sure if I will get it or not.
Saw someone from the CAG clan in the game I was in, it was fun!
It was me! LiquidCake! It was very fun.

I don't see how they think they can make people pay for an expansion when the community is already too small.

Will there be any way for players who don't have the expansion to take use of it online? Or is it like a whole separate world from the current mgo?

As for me I think it's nice, but for now it's just fluff. They should make it free for a couple of weeks, then charge people in my opinion so the community doesn't get totally torn apart.

Thats my thought on the camo but I think a argument can be made both ways on who face camo it is. Yeah Big Boss definately losses his right eye in Sanke Eater. I don't know if he actually losses it or just lost the vision but he does definately lost another eye to Snake according to the Metal Gear Data Base during the fight at Zanzibar. But I do think its the Big Boss camo.

I was thinking about this too, since most people play in custom rooms, this will split the community apart greatly. Since they plan on many more releases some people will always be behind on content, I hated this on Star Wars BF2, when they released a addon, you either had it and could continue playing online or you were SOL and had to buy it or stop. I hope that isn't the case here, as it will probably kill the community as I'm not sure I would buy the expansion, and when I do, it's usually two weeks or more after it's out.

In the old MGO, hosts had to reach like 100 hrs to add special characters to their games. I know it's wishful thinking, but maybe only hosts only have to have the expanison. I just hate the whole expanison deal, I would rather pay $60 for the "full" MGO with like 20 maps and all the special characters than have to continually wait and shell out money every other month like this is some type of mmo.
So I was watching the MGS4 world tour thing that was linked on Dengeki's site... it was awesome.

So yea, I can tell now that Yumi Kikuchi did the mo-cap for Mei Ling. Her ass is bangin.

IN THOSE JEANSSSSSSSS
grrr damn you kojima and friends for walkin out when I was at the entrance to the store! lol

From a business perspective, this is probably the absolute best time to offer an expansion. The game is only a month old, the community is still thousands strong, and a good majority of hardcore players should be interested in buying into the expansion.
Going through Konami's fucked up payment service will be a clusterfuck too. I highly doubt it will be on the PSN store.
This is my one concern. God only knows how screwed up it will be.

I got a new frame for this yesterday ;)
