Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
Lol, jesus, relax. You don't have to watch them again, and some of us paid to watch all these cutscenes and enjoy. I for one enjoy it.
More power to you; but I think the overwrought and redundant dialogue of the epilogue, coupled with the very few points made in those scenes, as well as the length of them, take away several notches from the idea of Kojima as a "master storyteller."

The Metal Gear series' narrative is incredible, but I don't need to be bludgeoned over the head with the story at the end like that.

but if you like that sort of thing, more power to you; it didn't take away from the game at all, but damn did it just kinda ruin the ending. I'm glad that I won't need to watch it again.

I just bought a ps3 today and with it metal gear solid. Just wanted to kno if theres a way to go straight to the menu screen when you first load the game instead of those commercials?

Nope! But you can switch the channels like a TV-- find the show you want to watch most and relax-- personal favorite-- Lee Meriweather (Big Mama) interviewing David Hayter (Solid Snake).

I didn't realize you could change the channels until my 2nd playthru.

Haha, same here. I was like "oh...and I sat through some weird crap when I could've just changed it...:/"

First time I played, I kept flipping the channels every five seconds, not sure what was happening. Eventually I went back and watched each one, wish you could skip it though since I already seen them all and have it on that blu-ray bonus disk.

As a huge metal gear fan I do have to agree with myke on this one. The ending was too long and drawn out period. I enjoyed pretty much everything gameplay, cinemas(I enjoy metal gear games in part because of this), I still am torn between saying which MGS game is the best, I want to say 4, but I think three might have been the best combo of game play and cinemas. What do you guys think?

I really enjoyed 3 as well. If they were to remake the entire series with the refinements of 4, Snake Eater would be the best hands down for me.

I really liked going through the wilderness and then coming upon areas with buildings, and I also liked how you could blow things up, like helicopters and supply depots and it would have an effect on the surrounding areas.

I liked 4 a lot though, I just wish we had one more act along the lines of 1 and 2. The war zones were so fun! In the end I didn't like the the whole old snake thing though.

Well, with MGO, you could've had the game on PSN (A pretty stable service), which it's not with PS Store integration, and Sony's help, but instead they went with a giant mess.

Please someone tell me if it's possible for them to move it to PSN.

Now that time has past and the hype has died down a little, I will say that MGS4 is overrated. Too many CS, that were too long and just involved standing around and talking. I don't have a problem with long CS, but when it's basically just two characters chatting it up for over half an hour, that could've been reduced a bit. I have to say, I'm really disappointed in how the series ended, my opinion on various things below, in spoilers just in case.

Boss battles were average at best, you didn't get a backstory to the bosses until after the fight and than listen for ten minutes about their past. It was like Ocelot went and found random "tormented" victims made them into the BB corp. The only Boss fights that were a challenge was Crying Wolf, cause of the guards, and the final fight with Ocelot. The first fight against octopus was interesting but wasn't difficult, and other two you just had to run around for a while. I was indifferent when I killed the bosses. In all the other MGSs they felt epic and took me a couple times to beat them each. They were all part of a unit together, and I had to take them down one by one, with some of fights being really fun that I would do it again just for fun. While here the only fight I would play again was Rex vs Ray just cause you're in a badass Metal Gear.

I remember early on, everybody kept saying the game got better once you finish the first act, but it really didn't. I expect more things like in act one and two. Where at least I was sneaking around and in a warzone. One thing I was kinda disappointed in was with all the hype, I thought we would be able to pick whose side we were on and help them or not to reach our objective, but all it ended up being was you having to disguise yourself as a rebel in only two of the act and either help disable the PMCs or not. Act three was just following a dumb guy who went too slow and got caught easily. Four was great for those who played the original MGS, but wasn't fun since it was mostly gekkos and the lame fight with Vamp. Act five was fun, but was short on gameplay and way too long on CS and the long ending. I really wanted to love this game, but as it stands, it's one probably my least favorite MGS game. Well that's my stances, and probably most will disagree with me but I had to get it off my chest.

they could but I think the larger reason why they went their own route was for more profit. since they sell stuff from their store only, they don't have to pay sony a single dime.

Ah, I think it's tough to say that MGS4 had too many cutscenes. That is what the series is known for...its cinematic style...and you had to expect the last game in the series to be top-heavy with it. If anything, I applaud Kojima for giving the fans of the series more of what draws them to it, rather than attempting to appeal to the mainstream. I mean, in this era, I think everyone knows what is being said about games by the fans, and when it comes to MGS, everyone likes to crack on the length and number of cutscenes. Kojima could have listened and tried to shorten the story, but he didn't. He made a game for MGS fans, and I love him for it.

As to whether or not it's overrated, I'll just go with Ron Bennington and say that it's rated right where it's suppose to be.

One thing that really grinds my gears about this game is the way the Operator is always auto-selected and placed in your R1 inventory after cutscenes... Especially when you're going for a no kill run. I know it's a minor thing but to me it's very annoying.

Just got home from Comic-Con Saturday. My brother (plays under my name MarkMan on MGO) beasted in gaming today. He won the Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection tournament and got 4th overall for the Konami Metal Gear Online tournament. His team won though for the 4 vs 4 team battle that Konami also held for the Metal Gear Online finals. He won this NICE Metal Gear Online poster that I've never seen anywhere before that was signed by both Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa.

You mind posting a pic of the poster? I'm curious :D

I guess I should've done some reading before completing my no kills run through the game. (not really sure if this is a spoiler but putting it under wraps to be on the safe side):
I just found out that you can drain any of the boss's health with regular weapons as long as you don't use them on the beauty form.:wave::wave:

i.e. If you are playing on the same save file, use the rail gun

The beta... It wasn't a real beta was it? Did they listen to the community or did was it just a stress test? Mainly I ask because there are some balancing issues that I think should have been addressed.

I'm trying to like the MGO, been playing it a lot but it just feels clunky. There is no finesse, "point-click-shoot-ping!" Might be fine for others but the more I play the less I am enjoying it.

The beta was mainly a stress test, but they took some feedback from the community, but not much. Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is run speed increased, in the beta without the Runner skill, you would go really really slow and feel really clunky. Like I said before the main problem with the game is the spray and pray style that most play, and even more now with them nerfing the stun knife.
What rank are ya?
I'm 1430 in TDM. They really made the animal rankings meaningless in this game. Too bad. It was fun actually achieving FOX in MGO1.

What? Damn, so it's pretty much all about kill/death ratio than, that kinda sucks since I play matches where the K/D ratio aren't as important than achieveing the team objective.

It's K/D and win ratio, I believe.
well one unexplained portion of the game people still believe has something hidden is the whole Kojima being The Voice of God.
So people still don't know where that comes into play? I heard it was during a hidden flash back when psycho mantis made his cameo. Hideo didn't talk though, it just showed pictures of him.

Wow, I just finished the game and I must say that this may be Number one for greatest game ever IMO (I'm not into RPGs so don't say that X RPG is better and that I'm ig'nint)
Glad to see another CAG liking MGS4.
It's odd. Before July, I had never even played an MGS game, in fact I sort of thought the games would suck (I don't know why), but then I got the MGS Essentials Collection and played through the 3 games back to back to back and then immediately picked up MGS4. The story, while confusing and convoluted, is some of the best stuff I've ever seen; voice work, script, presentation, camera, everything. This game is simply perfect, never was there a moment where I didn't want to continue playing or felt disengaged from the story. Way to go Kojima:applause:

For those making new run-throughs:

You finish Metal Gear Solid 4, you get access to a screen where you can enter passwords. Indeed, we've shown you some of these before! These are just like those. If you visit the extras menu, go to passwords and enter jmsotsynrn, you'll get the Type 17 pistol. Nice enough, but entering aottrykmyn will get you the Snake-dressed-as-Altair costume that left the internet scratching its head a few months back. It even matches his moustache!
