Am I the only one just not feeling this game? I'm trying.
Sadly, I'm in the same boat, and I'm pretty much the biggest MGS fan in the world. I understand many of the design choices thatI'm not liking, but it doesn't change the fact that I really just want a standard, non-portable MGS game.

I hear the ending is good, though, so I'm powering my way through it. I'll see you on the other side.

Well, I will definitely say that this MGS feels very different from most other MGSs. It's a simplified game in terms of action/stealth, but the strategy portion has been amplified a ton. I will say I have a hard time finding people not enjoying the ashley wood stuff, but yeah, the story isn't as strong as most MGSs... don't worry though, the plot starts picking up right when
snake gets kidnapped.

I wasn't feeling it for the first few hours, but somewhere along the way I stopped having a problem with using my left index finger to hit the D-pad to move the camera. I'm still not very far but I'm having fun.

for anyone who's played Monster Hunter Freedom, the controls feel right at home.

Yeah, I had actually just played MHF prior to starting MPO.
Tapping L will also replace the camera behind you so that might help you a bit.
Unfortunately this sometimes isn't an option - if you're in disguise and holding a weapon, L will cause you to raise your weapon, which will break your cover if anyone is looking at you.

Hmm... I guess. My playstyle must be different, I haven't killed anyone yet. I never run around with weapons equipted and hit circle to bring them out when I do need them, then put it back away.

the key is when in disguise to not equip a weapon... you'll still have the chameleon icon.

That is what I said... Sort of. :)

Yeah, you can be running around equipped with any weapon. But it just feels more authentic to not have anything equipped, or at the very least have the weapon the enemy is using equipped.

Right...but when I get caught for doing something else stupid, it's nice to already have the gun out.

Doing xmas eve driving yesterday, I probably picked up about 20 new troops - filling out my Spy ranks rather nicely. 2 of them came with a Ga-Ko, though I have no idea what that does yet. The AP Scan can be very frustrating though, when you nearly fill the bar up just to watch it empty.

Ga-Kos are used to distract guards. It's an easy way to get a guard to move to where you need them to be.
does it make a difference when, beginning or later in the game, you recruit soldiers using the AP?
No, it doesn't.
the memory card icon?
So I have to exit the game? Sorry, this is the first PSP game I've played, and am not sure what to do.

when on the map, hit X... from there the menu for setting up your team, reports, and options will be there. Options is the one you want (the card thing with two parallel arrows going in two directions), you'll find the option to save there.

This is strange...When I press start, and then go into the options menu I do not see the memory stick icon anywhere. I just got a 2GB card the other day and it does work, but for some reason that icon is nowhere to be found (believe me, I've looked pretty hard). Any ideas why that is?

don't press start (i'm guessing you're on the main menu, not the in-game menu)... just paly the main game, and eventually you'll come to Campbell talking to you on a screen with a map as a background. When they're done talking, hit X and a menu will pop up from the bottom of the screen. All the way to the right there should be the icon I mentioned to save.

Yeah I just figured that out and was coming in to say that I was a moron. For some reason I was convinced that I could save during missions like the other MGS games. Thanks for the help.

The AP Scan is an addictive little thing, as it's pretty much a more simple fishing game. I managed to pick up 13 new soldiers tonight on a drive (I just rode) and managed to get a few medics to help out early in the game. I couldn't get any of the ones at the hospital early in the game since they get excited and yell easily. I wonder what my trip to the airport tomorrow will bring? It's a really good game despite not being that far into it (
just got the malaria drugs
). I'm hoping to be able to get some online gaming in this upcoming week, so I'll post my MPO tag a little later on. Is it better than Subsistence's online since you can now move while in first-person view?

Has anybody gotten any really good soldiers with the wifi scanner?

most of my good soldiers were from scans... I have 2 S level mechanics from it :)

Yeah, AP Scanning is pretty addictive. I was picking up soldiers while driving around looking for a Wii.

I would be in for some multiplayer action, I haven't played in a while. (Been too busy with Twilight Princess.)

Trying to move in first person is pointless since you aren't circle strafing. You just lock your gun in a postion and move side to side or forward and backwards. It's not helpful. Well planned shots are the way to go (and soldiers with high HP).

Nice. I managed to pick up a really good guy just outside of the Phoenix airport last night named Goat. He has 107 life, 249 stamina, and 7 A skills, 3 B skills, and 1 C skill.

I finally got some time into the online last night and today. My tag is SolidTanuki. Despite playing maybe an hours worth of online, I've got no stats to prove it as hosts keep aborting their games in the middle of rounds. Despite that, it's really fun. I keep forgetting to change Snake for online, so he's handicapped with a tranq pistol and some TNT.

I wish you could maybe have an online and offline set of weapons so that you don't have to keep changing it everytime you switch between the two.

I also can't bear doing the game modes where you risk your soldiers if they get killed. I don't have a plethora of useless soldiers to throw at it, though maybe if I could make a copy of the saves so I wouldn't actually be losing them it would be fine. :whistle2:k I'd have a feeling that I'd still be losing my guys left and right.

Yeah, that would of been nice.

Another game, another host aborting early and losing stats. I did decently well, too (5 kills, 9 deaths). Is this a common occurence in the online in MPO? It's kind of getting annoying, though not enough to deter me like in Subsistence.

I'm getting the idea that DM is better than TDM since the team colored names don't always show, so I sometimes can't tell if there's a friend or foe in my sight.

From reading the FAQ on Konami's site, your stats only get recorded if you play Real Combat mode. And I believe it said you have to play for at least 3 hours before you get an animal rank. I don't even want to think about how many of my soldiers I would permanently lose if I played Real Combat for 3 hours. Sometimes I really hate Kojima.

LOL. Sheep.

You lose soldiers in everything. I just love losing guys in Cyber Survival to teams of Uniques.

My handle is HuBu-San.

you'll still get your online ranking but you will not lose your teammates.

if u don't like to use uniques in RC, then I guess this method is the lesser of two evils
Nice, thanks.

This looks like a nice site as well.
never been to their site? very informative and superb article writing. I have yet to read something off their site that dosn't make me think alot at once.

That sucks if that's true. Why isn't there two separate sets of stats for RC and VR games?

Huh?

The game is pretty addictive so far, I just wish I could get some damn rations and better stamina regeneration. My only real complaint is that the locales are pretty drab, but it's a damn fine game nonetheless. Trying to get new soldiers is like crack.

pass the days and get some medics and you won't have a problem with stamina... it's barely a problem if you take some time initially to work on it... shldt take longer than 30 min to find a medic.

All of my squad is doing fine on stamina, I just have a hard time keeping Snake's up. I'm not all that far into the game though so maybe I just need to figure some more stuff out. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a rerelease of MPO so that we get these new features, or may they'll be included in a download in the future? :whistle2:k
I doubt we'll see it, but more likely we'll have downloadble characters or a a patch. Kojima has always been nice to the Eruopeans with expanding MGS a little bit more for them since they have to wait the longest for them.

Yeah, he did that for MGS3, then we got all that extra stuff in Subsistence.
How the hell do I save the game?
That's funny, I came in here to ask the same question. I played for about an hour and a half, thinking it autosaved..

..nope.

But I got my answer from the earlier replies.

but we never got the extra in the director's cut version of zone of ender 2. We probably wont see everything unless they release Portable Ops subsistence. But the PSP is region free so you can just import

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I figured someone out there was still playing this game.

I just got it a couple days ago and it is pretty addictive so far. I am also having trouble with stamina and recruiting. I can't carry anyone to the truck anymore cuz my stamina is so low, and rations do nothing. I need to figure out some sort of strategy.

How does the online work on this game? Does anyone here still play this?

rest for a couple of days (in game) and you should be fine.

The stamina problem will subside real quick. You'll produce more than enough rations soon enough.

I don't really play online- After coming from MGO it felt like such a downgrade.
