holy crap.

I know I'm getting away from my sidescroller days but have I really gotten that bad?

I used to be able to breeze through Super Metroid with nary a scuff on the ole Varia suit. Under 10 hours was no problem.

Now, I can barely beat the fucking bosses. The crazy nightmare creature took me 20 tries!

Anyone else think the game was very difficult?

I know a couple people who had a hard time with the game, so no, you're not alone. As for me, I found the last fight to be a bit frustrating difficulty-wise, but otherwise, I entirely enjoyed the occasional "OMG WHERE DO I GO NOW?!" and actually dying due to deficiencies in my own skill rather than flaws in the gameplay. BUT MAYBE I AM JUST THE HARDEST-CORE GAMER.

yeah, I hear ya, but some of the boss fights have been unbelievably hard. I think the SP control layout is difficult for my hands and the screen is a tad small.

nice sig btw.

I thought the final boss was the hardest but If I was able to beat it anybody can.

Cirle of the moon was much more difficult in my opinion.

Glad to see I am not alone with CotM. I really suck at that game. So much so that I put it down and haven't gone back to it since. I don't know what my problem is, but that game was kicking my ass.

Metroid wasn't that bad but I do remember getting killed a bunch by a lot of the bosses. To me that's what a 2-D game should be. You should get killed a lot until you work out the pattern and discover a weakness... there's nothing less fun than playing an adventure game where you are never really in any danger.

Take Wind Waker for example - I rerally loved that game in theory from the dungeons to the side quests to the artistic design but it just wasn't "fun" enough for me to complete and I think it is probably because there was no sense of accomplishment in the battles. Health meant nothing and it just felt too easy...

I really have to rebuy those GBA Metroids, those were easily my favorite games on the GBA. But I do remember the bosses being a pain in the ass but the general game flowing pretty easily, just keep at it.

I used to be a side-scrolling champ. I beat every megaman, rockman and bass etc.

Now I'm a nobody... (stealing sub's smiley)
It seemed pretty easy to me, but I was playing Mega Man Zero at the same time so it may have been relative.
Yeah, that could do it.

It's easy except for the Nightmare battle and the first part of the X Samus battle. It's fucking bullshit that her screw attack takes precidence over yours.

the nightmare battle is what is fucking me right now!

everytime i think i've got the pattern, it pulls some new shit!

and how many times do i hafta hit the motherfucker? Bitch won't go down!

I beat both the GBA Metroids.

There were a few battles than were harder than I expected but it was still manageable IMO. I t was similar to Ninja Gaiden in that my skills got better each time I had to continue. CotM didn't seem that hard to me at all until I got to the end. Of course, my save died on me so I have no idea what the ending is like and I don't know when I will have 20 hours to put into it again.

Dracula is a bitch in that game. His hits take a ton of health and you really can't let him touch you when he glides across the screen. It took me like 30 tries and an FAQ to beat him because of how powerful he was

on Metroid Fusion, I found the game to be fairly easy. There are a couple of parts where I die a few times, but nothing all that hard. I thought Super Metroid was a lot harder because there was no sense of direction in that game as far as where you needed to go next though now neither game is all that hard. Metroid Prime is still the hardest Metriod I have played (solely because of the last three boss battles)

LOL
Hey, that's exactly what happened to me. I was just finishing up MMZero as I started Fusion. I blasted through that game in five and a half hours.
Wow, I'm actually surprised people find it hard. Compared to Super Metroid, Fusion is a wimp (Ridley, anyone?).

Prime is hard IMO because of the controls. Why they didn't use standard FPS controls is beyond me. If it were any other franchise I would get rid of the Prime games in my collection.

I think the game probably isn't hard and I've just lost those skills.

Until I got an SP this past january, I hadn't touched a sidescroller in 3 years.

It took me like 12 hours before I was used to the controls and could say I liked them. They are not the best controls ever, but games that use both sticks on the GCN suck (I have TS2 and the controls are horrible)

I thought Fusion was pretty easy, and I pretty much suck at Metroid/Castlevania type games. I still haven't beaten Circle of the Moon, which I bought at launch.

i haven't really had a problem up until Nightmare and he (it?) kicked my ass.

I have a hard time doing the double jump (or double spin jump, if you will) over him especially when it pins you in the corner and reaps you.

I never thought Ridley was that tough. Maybe, I'm just miss out on it but if you lay down a shit load of charged up shots and roll into a ball at appropriate times, he goes down pretty easily.

I actually just beat both of these games in the last month (which is news in itself, because I had these games for about three years and never beat them).

Metroid Fusion: I thought the hardest boss in the whole game was that damn spider boss, but once I got to Nightmare I only died a couple of times. Be sure to get all the energy tanks that are available to you at the time (I think there's one on the screen above Nightmare), and get *really good* at the space jump. When he starts floating around the room, you do the same to avoid him. Don't run around at the bottom, you'll die real quick that way.

Circle of the Moon: I started playing this three years ago and stopped at the Battle Arena because it was so difficult. I picked it up again last month and leveled up a dozen or so times, and tackled it again to squeak out victory. I also picked up a neat trick that I used in those areas like the Battle Arena where I couldn't use magic...

You have to be quick, pause the game, use some items to restore your magic and equip a lethal DSS summon attack. And as soon as you unpause the game, carry out the summon combo. You'll see your magic instantly start to drain, but pull it off correctly and you'll get one summon in. So be sure to stock up on those magic replenishing items.

Two really fun games, and I'm glad I got back into them and finally finished them out. Now if I can only do the same for Metroid Prime.

ugh, i don't know when I'll finish Metroid Prime now that I'll be gettin a DS, and Riviera and Fire Emblem and Zelda and Fire Emblem for GC etc. etc.
How is the difficulty of Fusion compare to Zero Mission?
There is a part of Zero Mission (which I can't really reveal due to spoilers) that can be difficult because of the state you are in. Other than that I think Fusion is slightly harder.

Yeah, the last part of Zero Mission wasn't what I expected it to be... ;) It's a very nice touch considering the game is mostly a remake of the original.

Really? i think if u mastered the super metroid, then the fusion should be no problem. I think fusion is easier than Zero mission too. Nightmare also took me a few tries. U sure you got all the tanks? I forgot how i fought that SOB. I only remember turning into morph ball and keep dodging its lunging attack.
well i mastered Super Metroid... I dunno, 10 years ago maybe?
Yeah, time's definitely a factor... I couldn't believe how much I sucked at Megaman 2 when I played it recently after having not touched it for about 10 years... If this is any encouragement, I've been playing MM2 a lot recently and have started to earn back my former skill.

and thanks, no one's complemented my sig before :D

I'm in the middle of Zero Mission, and I definitely think it's more difficult than Fusion. I'm a few hours in, and stuck at a boss who consistently beats the crap out of me.

We're talking about Super Metroid right?
Ridley is very hard if you're doing an 1:10 run through! Those attacks HURT!
