Metroid Prime Trilogy - Out of Print (Thanks, Nintendo!)

I think the lowered difficulty is a blessing for Prime 2. That game is insanely hard. Prime 1...I'm fine with that, but I think Veteran had a better difficulty curve. I'm pretty sure that beating the game (just like the GC versions) will unlock a new, harder difficulty.

KingBroly - I believe you were the one worried about the lack of the Fusion suit. An article from Wired (circa March) with impressions of the Japanese "New Play Control" Version of Metroid Prime (which is almost identical to the version coming to us in the MPTrilogy) said that it is attainable.

"From what I’ve played so far, the gameplay hasn’t been changed. There was one new addition that I’ve seen — like in the Wii sequel, you can earn badges for completing certain tasks, like defeating the Parasite Queen or escaping the first level. These can be redeemed for bonus content in the game’s main menu — art galleries, music, etc.

Apparently you can also redeem these to use the 'Fusion Suit,' a new costume for Samus that originally had to be unlocked by connecting the original Prime to the Game Boy game Metroid Fusion."

Hopefully, the solid port of NES Metroid is still in there somewhere too.

One sucky thing I read in the IGN preview comments on the reduction in quality of the FMV in MP2.

"Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is equally fantastic with Wii remote controls and the updated widescreen, 480p visuals, but the GameCube game used a bit more FMV – on the Wii, the compression is a little, shall we say, bleah during these cutscenes."

Guh. Is it really that hard to avoid screwing up something like that? (I recently played through Kirby Super Star Ultra on the DS and those ugly compressed videos bugged the shit out of me.)

Also, does anyone know if there are three save files available for each game? I think that the integrated interface is cool idea, but it would be a silly oversight to restrict the save slots like that. In the menu screenshot posted earlier in the thread, I noticed that there are three dots to the left of each game title. Maybe that indicates the traditional three save slots?

I doubt it's a screwup, more likely an unavoidable consequence of squeezing 3 games onto 1 DVD. It is 1 disc, right?

They might be a little off, but here are the file sizes of each main MP game released so far.
Code:
Metroid Prime (GC)-----1.36 GB
Metroid Prime (Wii)----1.55 GB
Metroid Prime 2 (GC)---1.20 GB
Metroid Prime 3--------4.12 GB
From Metroid Prime GC to MP Wii, the file size went up by .2 GB. Assuming the same happens with MP2, MP2 (Wii) will be approximately 1.4 GB. That would make the total size of a compilation 7.07 GB, enough to fit on a DL DVD. Are they trying to fit this on a single layer DVD? Do the bonuses for MP and MP2 total 1 GB? That's a lot of bonuses, or maybe Nintendo is using magic to make the releases, making simple math irrelevant.

My worries about the Fusion suit were calmed quite a while ago. If you think Metroid for the NES is still on there...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Keep this in mind gents: The Menu is now 1 interface instead of 3, meaning 1 page for everything including achievements/unlocks/art/music/etc. so thay'll probably take off a few hundred mb the size. The game's going to be on a dual-layer disc, the Wii's second. It seems like Corruption was at the disc size limit for single layer, anyways.

Just as a side note , when I played through MP1 way back when , I beat the game in both regular and hard mode. Oddly enough while the game itself was harder in hard mode (as to be expected) the bosses actually seemed easier. I don't know if it was simply a matter of being familiar with how to fight them or not , but I remember , for example , the advanced phazon mutant pirate you fight near the end of the game (third to last boss I believe) was pretty tough in regular mode , but when I refought him in hard mode he didn't give me that much trouble at all.

Can't comment on MP2 or 3 though.

Maybe he's referring to when you have to change beams/visors? Doing that is a lot better than moving your thumb off the analog stick to the d-pad then back for a visor change.

Wow, I'll have to dust off the Wii for this and give MP with waggle another shot. I'm guessing that online deathmatch is asking too much, though, right ?

[quote name='lilboo']Now I will DEF pick up Metroid Prime 1 and 2.
I said it before that they should do this! ::LAWSUIT::

They should also remake Luigi's Mansion. Luigi's Mansion would play really well with remote & nunchuck controls.[/QUOTE]

See I think they are going to do this and drop it when Ghostbusters releases, or make a sequal with the original included and drop it around the time of the Ghostbusters game, or within a few months.

[quote name='blueweltall']Would the old Gamecube controls still be an option or is it only the new wii control for Prime 1 & 2?[/QUOTE]

I'd like to see them, as an option. If not, oh well.

The ugh....boxart:

I'm betting it's a shiny box. It definitely looks like it will be. If it had that, and didn't have that stupid "Collector's Edition" mark, it'd be fine.

Nintendo needs to get whoever did the boxart for MP2: Echoes on this. That art style utterly destroys this lazy ass effort. What is with Nintendo's tendency to put ugly banners on some of their games? The tacky "collectors edition" label is in the same vein as the "best seller" gold medal looking things on certain Gamecube games.

Also, the box are is terrible. It's a good thing most Nintendo box art is boring and sits crammed on a shelf where you can't see it anyway.

I'm assuming you guys notice that the circle around the title is supposed to be the barrel of Samus's gun? ;)

I bought MP3 new for $10 (from EB, though it was like a one-day sale), so they do go on sale.

I'm torn about this... I played and beat all3 already (and still own them) but MP1 is one of my favorite games ever and I'd like to play it in WS and with the new controls...

A store may have a sale, but the MSRP will stay ~$50 for a long time since it is a Nintendo title.

[quote name='The_Spaceman']Just to clarify that's not a tin it's a Steel Book.[/QUOTE]

That's no moon...

Kudos Nintendo. The Trilogy alone is amazing, but who would've guessed they would deliver like this?

[quote name='007']I'm going to have sex with that.

*drool*[/QUOTE]

Just be sure to put that in your item description when you resell it.

At least he's using protection, what with the slipcase and all. A good example to follow, kids.

:applause:

Even though I'll likely pay $10 more (stupid exchange rate) I'm still getting this.

Wow, this is awesome. The only one I have is the first one for GCN, and I never got around to beating it for some reason. $42.29 from Amazon with the ECA discount is a steal.

Even with the aforementioned protection, watch out for chafing against the metal.

Wow, that shirt sucks. It should at least be the cover.

I own the first for GC. I never really got into it for some reason. I think it was controls, didn't really care for FPS with the GC controller.

I'm definitely getting this since I missed out on the first two and paying roughly $25 for each is a good deal. I hope I get into it this time around because I love 2D Metroid.

The Metroid Prime games are MUCH more entertaining to play when you have someone watching. Otherwise, they may come as bit of a bore if you're used to company.

That t-shirt looks like crap. I remember getting a shirt and sunglasses from the Nintendo rep before the original Metroid Prime launched. No idea what happened to the shirt but I still use the sunglasses all the time.

Speaking of shirts, I still have my FF7 shirt I got for pre-ordering the game.

I wonder if they'll have a Metroid Prime Trilogy standee in stores? It might not be a good shirt, but it's still something extra from Nintendo (when do they ever add something extra to their games for those who buy it? This is certainly out of left field for them)

[quote name='BlueLobstah']Not worth it for me to switch my Amazon.com pre-order. I'd rather have the Goldbox + ECA discount.[/QUOTE]

:(
I didn't get that in my Gold Box ... yet

It sometimes happens with major games. Wind Waker had the bonus disk with Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Galaxy had a coin, and I think the newest Pokemon game had a figurine.
