Microsoft E3 2012 Discussion

Everytime I watch a Tomb Raider trailer or gameplay video I always want to say "Jesus, someone get that girl a band aid." Can I have a gameplay video or trailer that's not just the awkward long extended sounds of her in pain and me just feeling a little sad for a virtual lady? Still looks good to me, but man, they can tone down on the things stabbing or hitting her in the face just a bit.

Splinter Cell looks awesome though and so does Dance Central 3, but Jesus would it goddamn kill Microsoft to actually share information about the games as opposed to quick snippets of gameplay or a trailer and not much else?
No one is going to start a new franchise this close to the end of the console cycles unfortunately
Which makes no sense IMO. Right now, they've got the largest user base that they're ever going to get for these consoles. Why not get people hooked on a new franchise, then roll out something new a year or so after the new consoles release?
I can't believe they finished with Blops 2. I was holding out for something big to surprise everyone.
Ya me too.

I can't believe they took so much time on the Xbox Smart Glass stuff yet never really explained how it will work. Will it let me sync my zune music library from my pc to my android tablet? That would be sweet. I already own a Windows Phone so I can already do most of the stuff they showed like control my xbox 360 with my phone.
The new Splinter Cell looked amazing but apart from that, Microsoft showed nothing.
Sorry but Halo 4 may not be new but that gameplay was really awesome and I am not a Halo fan really.

The conference was absolutely horrendous on every possible level. I'm ashamed to own a 360.

LMAO @ South Park creator's mocking Microsoft's "Smart Glass" presentation. That was awesome and the only highlight of this boring conference.

Better than last year by miles.

It's a bad turn for the franchise and it makes me very sad for the icon Lara Croft. It's a poor man's Uncharted with a weak, uninteresting lead at this point. Just add dinosaurs and you have emo Turok. To be fair though, Tomb Raider has had dinosaurs before. . .
Better than last year by miles.
Ha yeah, last year M$ had absolutely nothing to show and they knew it.

Pretty sure you can use a usb keyboard with the 360...not sure about a usb mouse.

I have to give them some credit. They were the highlight of the show, and all they had was a game with no actual gameplay footage. It's impressive not so much on their part, but on Microsoft's part for failing so miserably at everything they ever attempt to do.

I think that, as well as that game were the best part.

- Xbox Smart Ass doesn't impress me
- Halo 4 looked like Metroid Prime, also shut up Cortana (what's with the talky women this year?)
- Tomb Raider looked more linear and scripted than ever
- Entertainment stuff looked bleck, and no NFL?
- Blops...don't care
- Splinter Cell...death of the stealth genre

Everything else was too uninteresting to even care about.

Really not trying to be a fanboy since I agree the conference was lame but 19 million Kinects sold is NOT failing from a business perspective. Is it what a core gamer likes? Of course not but casual gamer's money spends just the same as ours. It is not like we do not have games to play either. Sony has more exclusives but what do they get for that? Tepid sales because the core market is more finicky.

This pretty much sums it up

I must've heard things wrong then when they said to leave the keyboard on the computer and use your Kinect or phone/tablet.

This. You knew something was wrong when they brought Usher out to try to get a bunch of fatass gaming press to stand up, shits not happening.

I agree with most of this except I thought most of the games looked great. The entertainment stuff is a bore to me and Smart Glass was just not presented in a way that interests me. I want to play games...the rest is just not that interesting.
Sorry but Halo 4 may not be new but that gameplay was really awesome and I am not a Halo fan really.
Yeah, it was the first time in years I can say I was interested in the story, looks and gameplay. Single player at least for once to me didn't look dated.

To be fair, Lara has plenty of terrible, terrible turns in the franchise and this is far from the worse. Plus so far despite all the cries of pain I'm still looking forward to trying the new game that and nothing was more of a poor man's Uncharted then Uncharted 3. Goddamn was that disappointing.

Yeah....gaming is getting quite stale. Really getting sick of playing the same 10 or so franchises and everything just tries to hard to be like the big boys it comes across pathetic.

COD is the death of gaming...not because of the game itself but now every company wants to only have billion dollar games. You guys should take a look at VG releases and see what games are coming out in the next 6 months....effing bleak.

Well I am sure that is what the want you to do but I know the 360 allows for a USB keyboard to be used right now so I would imagine it could be used on IE. Could be wrong though.

I thought Smart Glass seemed potentially nice, but admittedly I'm not entirely sure what all you can do with it. I'm intrigued anyway.

Mostly pretty dull stuff, but I thought the wrecking game looked like it would be fun, even though the presentation was irritating.

Anyway I've got Trials Evolution still. I'm happy. ;) :)

I am really thinking that XBLA games are were there innovation is going, there has been a steady flow of original games coming out there.

Best case scenario is it'll turn out to 360's answer to Boom Blox, which isn't a bad thing.

I don't really care about their business perspective, because I'm neither an employee of Microsoft nor an investor. 19 million Kinects being sold does nothing but depress me, because the Kinect is a worthless, overpriced accessory that has no good games aside from maybe Dance Central (which is admittedly pretty fun). If Microsoft wants to cater to filthy casuals, sure, go ahead. If Microsoft wants to pawn off products that are far inferior to what a PC can already do (don't get me started on the atrocity that is W8), go ahead. But don't expect me to consider the trash they churn out for them to be worth my time.

I'm not trying to be a fanboy either. But everything at that conference was horrendous and did nothing but make me pray for the death of the video game industry as we know it.

If anything could make you more depressed, it's SpikeTV's coverage of the whole thing.

Give me Tomb Raider, and that's about it. Maybe Nike Fuel, but we all know that it won't actually work.

That sums up the show for me, is that MSFT finally realized that gesture doesn't work on Kinect, and that all they can do is use it as a voice controller.

Overreact much?

Really tired of the same old franchises. The South Park game was my highlight. With the ESPN announcement is that still only for people with certain providers? If for everyone that would be great.
Overreact much?
A little, perhaps. Virtua Fighter V is coming out in two days, and the clips from that Dust game (not shown in the conference) looked like it might be interesting. But everything in that conference, game or otherwise, was just... ugh. It's not even the type of thing you can laugh at, like Wii Music was. This is what games are nowadays. And I don't think I can deal with that.

That seems to be the truth. I may be able to get behind that but it just seems like a way to do something that a button press has been doing forever. Plus it is not a cool feature if you are in game chat with a friend and you have to keep talking to the game you are playing.

That is what I am saying.....just like the movie industry they seem to be killing themselves here. So tired of the same old things all the time. I am also so sick of the fake excitement when things like Black Op 2 is shown......"uhh look at us run up this street...we really ramped up the intensity this year" and like a lap dog the interviewer "yeah yea it looks amazing!!"

No it doesnt...it looks the same as every other game you have created for the last decade.

The thing you have to remember is there are plenty of other games outside of what is shown at E3, just majority of these are what sells. There still exists companies like Platinum Games and majority of new ideas seem to be going to download titles in anycase. Plus if you were expecting INCREDIBLE news from Microsoft just in terms of games then you have not seen their press conferences in the past 2-3 years. Eitherway all I'm saying is there's no reason to give up hope merely because of one press conference.

While this is true there is not much you can do when games put nothing but a gun the hand of the person you are playing. Yeah you can add powers to the other hand (Bioshock, Dishonored) or you can go from 1st person to 3rd person but in the end these games are all the same. I do not mind it as long as the game plays well, tells a good story, and looks good.

Mass Effect was great because it is a game where you do not always have to be shooting a gun (although it is all you can do if you want). Try playing as an adept in that game and sometimes you never have to shoot. It is liberating.
Thing I wanna know...where was Microsoft's next console? Are they content to just let Nintendo have that large of a lead?
Considering the rumored specs, it's not going to be that large of a lead.

But it's just... why? Who do they think watches a 90 minute press conference about video games on a weekday afternoon? People who want to watch movies or network in a social manner? No. Gamers do. The hardcore crowd. Yet they showed nothing that that crowd could possibly care about. The only trailers shown were the ones that had the most explosions/ Middle Easterners being cinematically taken down, and when it wasn't that, it was KINECTKINECTKINECT. And when it wasn't that, it was services that I had no interest in because my PC could do anything the Xbox could do, better, and without voice commands. It's garbage that neither I nor any other gamer could possibly care about (barring CoD players, but they don't count as people). What was MS trying to accomplish by having absolutely nothing that anyone actually watching the conference would be interested in? It baffles, confuses, and enrages me.

You're right, though, there are certainly other games out there (and that I haven't seen an E3 conference in 2-3 years). But there are also other games on the SNES, Genesis, and PSX that I could play instead. So I think I just might do that.

Very happy with the footage shown of Halo 4, Tomb Raider, and Black Ops 2. I wish they would have had some gameplay for Gears of War: Judgment, that was the one thing I felt was missing.

Aside from those, there was a bunch of social/media stuff I don't care about. And the most memorable thing about the Live Arcade games shown was the cute girl who played the ballista game.

Wow looking at Halo 4, the HUD does remind me a lot of Metroid Prime which is a good thing.

I think I'm actually interested in this game now.

Bioshock Infinite, GTA 5, and MGS: Rising are the other three games left for the 360 (for me), after that it would be nice to get some 720 news.
Thing I wanna know...where was Microsoft's next console? Are they content to just let Nintendo have that large of a lead?
Yeah, like was mentioned- it's more Nintendo catching up than getting a lead.

I don't want MSFT or Sony to be rushing to market with a new console, just because. I feel like Sony is going to be smart enough to sit back and wait a bit, but I don't know about MSFT. It would be advantageous for them to milk their HUGE consumer base for 2-3 more years before taking the next leap. That's what I'd hope for. There's still a lot that can be done in this current gen.

And as a CAG, do we really want to be buying new consoles?

Pretty disappointing conference. I like the always connected SmartGlass stuff since I use my Xbox for almost all my multimedia purposes. Halo 4 looked amazing. Tomb Raider looked pretty good, and BLOPS2 should be worth a rental. I've lost just about all interest in Gears as a franchise. I think I'm ready for the new generation, but it's not coming anytime soon.

The games I'm actually interested in (The Last Guardian, Persona 5, Half Life 3, Dark Souls 2) aren't even announced yet (except Halo 4) or may not even exist ever. I feel like the industry is in a rut. I'm hoping Sony can show me something to get excited about.
