MLB 09: The Show CAG League - WEEK 7 STANDINGS! READ POST #1065!!!

I understand I may have missed out on this league, but if for any reason you guys restart or someone drops let me know. I'm down to play whatever team, even if it is slightly crippled.

PSN: Reagan_Stein

lets play it out. i got the game at launch for this league . by th time leauge 2.0 starts i think the kinks should be worked out. for the next draft

All right, well it seems like most everybody would prefer to continue on with the league. talon and ivan are the only others who are strongly affected by the "free agent glitch", but I guess if they'd really rather not play, they can drop. Other than that, you guys are free to start playing your league games. I'll update the OP accordingly.

Even Talon with his FA picks should be fine... he made to at least the title game last year and I'm sure he still has some solid players.

luckily no one has like, 3 OF FA's... Talon's are spread out between positions.

Also, R.I.P. Nick Adenhart... Pitched 6 scoreless last night for the Halos, only to be killed after in a felony hit-and-run. Three others in the car, 2 died. Sad, sad story.
Yeah, as long as N8 lets me pitch a four man rotation I'll give it a shot.
Yeah man, absolutely. I mean, the game didn't make this easy on any of us. At this point, I think we just gotta roll with the punches and hope for better circumstances with the next league.

Yeah, I can play now if you want to give it a go.

Well, BasketCase and I just had a miserable experience. We tried playing our league game which appears as series 14 on the schedule. He tried challenging me numerous times, but it kept coming up "exhibition game". I was set to be the home team, but when I tried clicking his name in the schedule, the only option it gave was "send exhibition challenge". Looking at the schedule, there appears to be different designators for home games, away games, flex scheduling, and "unavailable". I have no freaking clue what to make of it, but for whatever reason, it wouldn't let us play. Basket wanted to play an exhibition game anyway, so we did that.

About 4-5 innings in we got hit with ridiculous, stuttery lag that made the game unplayable. Since Basket got a big guess pitch type right earlier in the game (which I designated to be out of the strikezone...but I guess since he guessed the pitch, it was right down the pipe), and crushed a 2 run homer.

I offered to just concede the game. He refused...and that kinda pissed me off because my thoughts raced to the retarded concept of being able to refuse a forfeit. He messaged me afterward to tell me he was going to offer a friendly quit, but I had already left the game at that point. Sorry I jumped to conclusions Basket. It's my own fault I got a quit on my record for that one. In the 4 innings we played though, you won fair and square. Just wish we could have played a game that counted.

If anybody can figure out the scheduling and how the "flex" aspect of it works, feel free to school me on it, haha. All I noticed was a giant timer counting things down. I had to choose a length of series option when I set up the league...and my only choices were 1, 3, or 5 days. It's not like "flex" was a choice...but I have no idea why it would matter if you can play games out of order. Anybody got any ideas?

well, I'm on now if anyone wants to try... from N8's post, guessing it won't work, but we can try

cusemanKeith

edit: since nobody's in the lobby, I'm gonna play some COD - just shoot me a message or post here if you wanna play in the next 15-20 minutes and I'll jump on (5:00 est now)

boston... i gotta take a quick shower b4 work... stay on tho... im in the lobby just challenge me and ill see it in like 5 mins

I'm in, although I'm a bit surprised (and slightly confused) that apparently we can play our games in any order? So my first game doesn't have to be my "Game 1" on the schedule against that opponent?

Just finished a good league game w/MDAMORE. No lag, and it counted, so at least that's one good report.
Good game md

gg boston... damn i need practice.

Lol, gave up 4 homers and got hella frustrated... ah well.

lemme know if anyoneelse wants to play later.

haha gg basket, sucks all the lag but still fun as hell. Figured i'd take lincecum out in the 9th for you incase he was being too cheap :p

Whoseever playing the cubs, when do you wanna battle?

so league games are happening? awesome... if anyone wants to post some recaps, that would be interesting seeing everyone has drafted teams Starting Sunday I have 9 days off so I can get a bunch o games in this week at all different times.

I didn't realize, guess pitch is off?

I'll be free from Sunday through Tuesday pretty much anytime and parts of Wednesday if anyone wants to get league games in with me (Cardinals). I'll probably be on Saturday night after midnight to play also.

It says that on the website, but I chose "default" when I created the league. I thought default was just like when you do quick games...so it should be on. Can anyone confirm? Also, my question for you guys that were able to play a league game, was it flex style, or did you play your series 1 opponent? If flex is working..I can play a game now if anyone is around.
Apparently flex scheduling doesn't work, so we have to play in order :(
That just can't be possible..lol. That was another big selling point this year. We've got to figure it out. I know I didn't screw it up because my options when creating the league were very limited. This is from the "league handbook" itself:

How the Schedule Works

^c1^League Schedules^c0^^n^There are two types of divisions within league play: Divisional and Round Robin. When creating a league, you will be given the option to have a two-divisional league or a one division round robin. Also, part of the creation process as a Commissioner is deciding how many games you want to play vs. your own division and how many games you want to play vs. the other division. It may be more important to you to play more games vs. your own division than the other division, so you can set it up any way you feel necessary to fit your needs. ^n^As you adjust settings, this will fluctuate your Games/Weeks counter, making it larger or smaller depending on the number of games you set for each. As a reminder, the number of teams you have in your league (Max teams) will decide how many games you can play in a series (1, 3, 5). It is also important to check your Series Duration Days (1, 3, 5, 7) to see when you need to get in your series games by.

None of that should affect whether flex schedules work or not. One more freaking thing I'm going to have to google I guess.
Hmmm maybe I was being dumb and didn't realize I was trying to play opposite league guys.
But we have one series of interleague play. That's what happened when I tried to play BasketCase earlier. Look at the schedule in the game and tell me if you can make heads or tails of all the color coding nonsense. There's like 4 different things to signify home, away, flex, and unavailable.

What worries me is when I check "unresolved games" (commissioner option), I get this:

The current round of play is still active. Unfinished games cannot be resolved until the current round expires on Apr 13, 2009 06:13 PM.

This is EXACTLY like it was last year...but apparently, we only have 5 days to get the current round played rather than a week. I don't understand why there is even a time limit at all if there is supposed flex scheduling. Somebody go act like you're going to create a league like ours, and tell me if you see any kind of "turn flex scheduling on" option.

All right, I also found this:

League Challenges
^n^
Once a time has been set to play your league game go to the League Lobby to challenge your current opponent. It is important to remember the series duration days. This is how many days the series must be played in, either 1,3,5, or 7 days. As you enter the League Lobby you will notice the Current Opponent clearly labeled. If your opponent is offline that will be noted as well. Make sure your opponent is online; a Baseball glove icon will notify you that your opponent is available to be challenged. As a side note, times to play your league games can be scheduled between the two league members by keeping in contact through IM, Mail, chat, etc.
^n^
Now when a time has been set to play your series game and you are the home team (Host), for example, then you will be presented the challenge option in the League Lobby screen. Press the ^b2^ button, this is only available to the host to send a challenge. Your opponent (Client) can accept the challenge from anywhere in the online area, they do not have to be in the League Lobby with the Host. Challenge your opponent, set your team the way you like and play your league game. Once a league game has been completed, win or loss, you can check the Divisional Standings in the League Lobby or on the League Office screen to see instant results. Also check the League Leaderboard screen to view all of the statistics that occur in your league games. All league games count towards your MLB 09 Overall point total on Leaderboards.

It's still comical that it makes no mention of flex scheduling, but maybe you can't challenge people beyond your "current opponent" without being in the lobby with them? Basket and I didn't try this, so it's worth a shot. Otherwise, we're all going to have to be organized as hell.

Haha...I guess nobody knows how it works...or if it even exists: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=mlb2007&message.id=90850

In the league I run, I can play any one of 5 different series. So I can play teams A, B, C, D, E right now, but teams F and G have to wait. I dont have to play A-E in that order though.

That kinda makes sense because if I remember the schedule correctly, the first 8 games were color coded (red & blue? I can't remember), so maybe those are the only current ones that are flexible? If that's true, that's some really half assed "flex scheduling". Why limit which games you can choose from?

Probably to keep people from getting too far ahead and then dropping out?

I'll be honest - I'm too lazy to try to understand the above posts regarding flex scheduling, etc -
All I know is that I challenged mdamore, he declined and then challenged me and we played. He was actually my 4th game on the schedule, and it counted...

I'm guessing the red and blue thing is the case

Yeah defintly the red blue thing then. Anyone who I have in the next few sereis that are red or blue let me know when you want to play, i'm available mostly anytime.
GG N8, by the way.
Yeah, definitely good game man! I thought I had Smoltz on the ropes early, but he really settled in and made me work. A couple errors late in the game really hurt you, and I was finally able to knock a couple runs in. The game was virtually lag free though, so that's always good. It's kinda weird that the game won't let you play back to back games though, but I guess it's for the best. At least you'll get a good look at everybody in the league before we play again.

Also, good game to Keith. He's a freaking force, man! I had the misfortune of facing Scott Kazmir. Keith has always been good at pitching, but with Kazmir, he was unreal. There's nothing quite like that "World Series Boost" that pitchers get the following year, haha. I hung with him 0-0 until about the 5th inning, but then ran into some trouble with Haren. Keith loaded the bases with only one out. Ichiro went for the squeeze play, but A-Rod came charging in from third and gunned down the runner at the plate. In the anticlimactic next at bat, Haren walked in the go-ahead run.

Keith took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 7th, where Ryan Ludwick was FINALLY able to put one over the fence. A combination of Balfour and Shields gave the lead back the very next inning though. And Keith led 3-1 going into the bottom of the 9th. Christian Guzman reached to leadoff the inning, setting up the 3-4-5 of Derrek Lee, A-Rod, and Ryan Ludwick with a chance to tie the game.

Keith brought in Huston Street, though, and none of my guys could come through, allowing Keith to escape with the 3-1 victory. Keith is a ridiculously tough opponent. It seems like every mistake you make, he makes you pay for. Gotta be perfect next time.

Oh, and what most everyone has figured out is dead on. The red/blue not only distinguishes between home and away games, but also which games are available to be played. It seems that you have about 8 games available at a time. After I played zkelton, the 9th series became available. And after playing Keith, the 10th series became available. It's kinda weird. It feels like unlocking levels in an adventure game, haha. Hope everybody's been enjoying the games so far!

Good recap N8 - that squeeze play really backfired on me, then I got too geeked up when Pujols got up w/the bases loaded and tried to hit a grand slam, swinging at anything.

Anyways, great game - I just knew the meat of your lineup would tie the game up in the 9th - I was lucky to get out of the new stadium with a win.

Btw - the Yankees are my real life favorite team, so it was cool playing in the virtual version of the new stadium. Also, as a Yankees fan, I was almost hoping Arod would come through for you in the clutch there in the 9th. Good game.

Also - question, sorry if I missed it, as I did see the rotations on the original post - but are we all using our rotations according to what we drafted? In other words, if someone drafted (not computer picks) 5 starters, they use all 5 then start again, but if you only chose 3, you cycle through just those? I'm fine with whatever, just want to know before I get to my 4th and 5th games played, just in case.
