MLB 2K11 CAG League Baseball - Season 2! We Made It! Playoffs! Rd 1 Due by 10/12!
So once everyone has accepted the invite will games be available to played right away or is there an official "start date"?
Once everybody is in, we should be ready to go. No official start date, but I'll probably keep a general date in mind just to make sure everybody is getting the one game per week minimum in. No hard deadlines right away, but we don't want anybody dragging the league down either. With legitimate flex scheduling, I'm hoping it won't be too bad though. But yeah, once everyone joins, we can start playing.

Good deal. I should be on around 9:00 or so to accept it and that will be my usual time (probably closer to 10:00) to play as well. I hope this goes smooth as this will be my first venture back into playing online since The Show debacle last year.
I'll join today, but I've only gotten to play a couple single player games so far. I need to practice!
I played my first online game with Nate last night, and definitely need to work on my base running. May have cost me the game, but Nate had timely hitting and clutch pitching working for him.

Well, I mean, that is just how I roll, lol just kidding. No, the winning run I scored on the play from 3rd was just ridiculous retard luck, haha. I still don't even know how I did it. I don't think I pressed anything other than the sticks, but I was also trying to slide and control my runner on first, so God only knows what actually happened. I was barely just starting to grasp base running in The Show, so this is like starting all over.

Just as a heads up to everybody in the league, for whatever reason, the game seems to have some kind of slow down/framerate issues when XBL notifications pop up. One of our friends joined our party right as stat hit a slow grounder up the middle, and I couldn't get to it with Jeter to save my life (though some might find that about right for Jeter, haha). Turning off your notifications during league games might be something for people to consider.

In fairness, we all know Jeter can't go to his left lol.

"It's god given!"

I havent played much, but there's something I've found annoying, but I Don't know if I just havent figured it out yet; is there a way to choose a baserunner without using the A button? Like, If I have a guy on first and second, I select the lead runner on a live play, can I select the runner originally on first without having to cycle past the batter?

good luck to anyone playing against me at Miller Park with the roof open, when the shadows hit the infield it's like playing baseball in a dark closet

Yup, looks like we're just waiting on Logg and moojuice. I talked to moojuice last night (we actually tried playing a game, but he was having connection problems), so he should be joining soon. No idea about Logg though.
If you got a spot, I'd be down to play some league games.

GT: Scottbiggame team: Cubs
I'll put you down on the waiting list. There's another guy ahead of you (who's actually a Cubs fan as well) who had decided to take the 8th spot right when JStryke signed up, so he'll get the first opening. But if anybody else drops, I'll let you know.
So who are we waiting on to start this?
Logg. He hasn't been on XBL since 3/16 and his last time on CAG was when he posted in this thread that he wanted to join on 3/15. No offense to him, but if you only show your face once every 8-9 days, you're not going to do well in a league where seven other guys are depending on you. I just sent DarkTower80 an invitation a couple hours ago to replace him. Hopefully things will get rolling by tonight.

Yay Brandon!

I played my first online game last night against Venom from CAG. Not sure if ti was jsut his connection or what, but I got the "Waiting to connect to player" message (or whatever it says with the countdown timer) a few times, and lag was nearly unbearable when fielding. I'd barely tap the buttons to throw to bases and the meter would rocket all the way into the red, leading to errors.

Pitching and batting seemed to work fine; it was just the fielding. I also just plain suck at base running. I'm so used to The Show's controls from last year. I finally got used to using the left stick to slide, but I can't manage to control individual base runners the way I'd like to. A bases loaded pop fly with no outs turned into a triple play because I couldn't get that right.
All joined up. Couldn't pass up the Phillies rotation so I took them.
What you're telling me is that you want Luis Castillo.

Nice, glad Brandon got in. Now we can get things moving.

Connection is going to be a big factor (did you notice if any of it coincided with XBL notifications popping up? we're still trying to sort out how much that impacts things, but it's worth turning them off during online games just to see). When Rob and I played, it was basically perfect other than a few isolated fielding hiccups that seemed to happen when notifications popped up. Then, I tried playing Alan, and we couldn't even connect at first. Our 2nd game dropped in the 4th inning (he was having connection issues that day though).

Anyone getting connection issues should at the very least run a speed test (www.speedtest.net), paying close attention to your upload speed and your ping. You also might want to make sure your NAT is open. Alan and I couldn't find the NAT info on the dash anymore, but according to a few different forums, if you run a connection test and no warning message pops up, it means your NAT is open. An easy way to guarantee this is just set up your 360 with a static IP and turn on DMZ for that address.

As for baserunning, like anything, it just takes practice. I had The Show's controls stuck in my head too, but I started doing better last night. You cycle through the runner you're controlling with the A button...and you advance him with the Left Trigger (or you can advance all runners with the Left Bumper). There's also some kind of analog control to move the runners, but I'd just stay away from that because it will confuse the hell out of you.

All right, guys. We are up and running! I just had the game generate a schedule and the way it works out is you play 3 opponents twice and everybody else once (8 teams - yourself = 7 teams + 3 rematches = 10 games). And in real flex scheduling fashion, you can play any of these games at any time. Let's just shoot for at least one game a week. This means everybody should have their first game played by Opening Day (3/31). On that note, PLAY BALL!!!

Holy crap, speedtest.net turned into Battleship. I don't know why my connection seems to have issues with this game, everything looks good on my end:

I even have ports opened up in addition to DMZ for shits and giggles.

As for the notifications, I don't think either Brandon or I had any frame issues in conjunction with notifications. In our game specifically, it seemed like we lost frames whenever there was a dramatic camera shift (like a ball getting hit straight up in the air, and the camera shifting from the batting/pitching view directly to a zoomed out fielding view.

Yeah, wow. That speed test looks crazy good. The only thing I would say is test it during prime internet hours when you usually have trouble. I don't know if Comcast just takes a shit in the evenings or what happens, but with those numbers, you should NEVER have problems.

The framerate thing is odd. The dramatic camera shift drop I get even in offline gameplay, and I think that's just a bug in the game's programming, but the online stutter was different. It's hard to describe, but it made a routine ground ball almost impossible to field. Hopefully it won't be a common occurrence and won't be something we even need to worry about.

For those speed tests, it's hard to go by them (imo). I always have low numbers, yet I rarely have issues. Although if possible, we should try to make sure all our connections are open. Or at the very least moderate. If so, in theory we shouldn't have too many issues.

If not for it being the Phillies, I'd have picked them. I'm just an avid hater of them. But yeah, they are crazy good. Offense too.

Brandon and I just played out league game, he won 2-1. Raul Ibanez hit an eighth-inning single down the first base line to plate the go-ahead run. Chase Utley snared Josh Thole's line drive with two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the win. Chris Capuano was chosen as the Player of the Game, fanning nine and allowing a run over seven frames.

Nice. Sounds like a pretty realistic line. Any connection issues during the game or was it smooth?

None on my end. Don't think Brandon had any either.

If anybody wants to try getting a game in with me, I'm good whenever tonight, Monday and Wednesday (and Tuesday anytime after 6 pm). This weekend may not work though for me since I have my main fantasy draft tomorrow and then work in the evening and my dad will be drafting all day Sunday. While I could try to play Sunday, with him being on the net, I don't know if / how much that would affect us.

anyone able to play a game tonight around 945 pm cst? If I get off early I can post and let you guys know if anyone will be around.

I'm on the east coast and usually on late (11:00 - 1:00) most nights and I may be on this weekend to try to play. I'll be sending out friend invites in the next day or so as well if that's cool.

yep got home early, anyone around want to get a game in?

sent everyone fr that I didn't have yet but can't add Matt since his list is full

I thought I had you on my list from the Madden leagues. I can probably find someone to delete.

Boy I wish I had a couple online games in before the first league game, getting used to hitting online after playing lots of offline was tough. Got disconnected from 2k servers down 8-0 to the Red Sox with 2 outs, I guess the game got counted cause I'm 0-1.

For those that haven't played, I think it might be a good idea for pairs to play a full inning of an exhibition game before playing the league game, just to see how the lag is. If it is bad on one host, try another. This also gives you a chance to test out the delay, if any.

As for the 2k servers dropping, that's really unfortunate. n8rocker and I had just finished our game around the same time you were playing, and I got booted. Oddly though, I was the only one that got booted.

Yeah that was my first online game with this as well and aside from two big innings I was having a hard time hitting. It's like the split-second that you have in offline games to actually read the pitch to take balls is gone and you just have to decide before the pitch if you're swinging or not because if you try to read it you're too late.

I'd like to play sometime Tuesday now that I've gotten to play a couple games. Do you guys use the headset? Figured the CAG hockey guys would, but not sure about the rest. I'd like to play 2 games if possible.

Apparently, Rockies fans are douchebags (Alan excepted). 2 online ranked games; me as the White Sox vs. 2 different Rockies players. Game 1 was scoreless till the 5th inning when I drove in 3 runs and the guy forfeited. He gave me negative feedback ("Poor Sportsmanship"). When I asked him why, he said, "You were advancing your runners whenever you could. I'm not trying to play that type of game." I advanced runners when I got hits. I never even attempted a steal. What the fuck does that statement even mean?

The second was even worse. The guy was up 1-0 even though I ad given up a mere 3 hits and ended up striking out 17 batters with Buerhle. I tied the game in the bottom of the 8th on an Adam Dunn single and then drilled a 3 run homer with Paul Konerko. I finished the game with Buerhle, winning 4-1, but just as I recorded the final out, the douchebag disconnected. I got the win, but didn't get the achievement for winning an online ranked game since it didn't technically complete, and neither did the first one. So I was fucked out of that achievement as well as an opportunity to get the 3 ranked wins in a row achievement.

I'm up for tonight possibly. I'll have to rely on my dad for a ride home from work though since he needs to use my car, but I should be available by 7pm or so (EST).

And Nate, sorry about last night. I somehow never noticed you sent me a message until an hour later and while I was still up for a while, I just felt too tired too play a round.

And to answer Matt's question, yes I do have a mic.

Glad to see several games have been played over the past couple days. One thing that was noticed last night that needs to be pointed out is that unfortunately, energy does not carry over from one game to the next. Theoretically, what this means is that you could pitch your ace pitcher every single game and he'd be no worse for wear.

HOWEVER, we're not allowing that. You will be expected to use your 5 man rotation. With a 10 game regular season, it's simple. Each starting pitcher should pitch 2 games. Hopefully this goes without saying, but you can't bring any of these guys in in relief either. I don't like that energy doesn't carry over because your batters and bullpen should tire as well, but there's not really feasible rules we can impose on those guys. But at least we can make sure the starters are handled realistically.

tl:dr - USE YOUR 5 MAN ROTATION. STARTING PITCHERS SHOULD GET 2 GAMES EACH.
(don't say you weren't warned).

Also, I'm adding a Trading Block to the OP for anyone who wants to move some of their guys. Feel free to post any additions or proposals you may have.

So then are you saying you didn't pitch Sabathia in your first game? ;)
So then are you saying you didn't pitch Sabathia in your first game? ;)
Haha, no. Because the same thing that happened when we first tried our game happened to me when I played the Rockies. I hate that you have to "press start" to adjust your lineups, but start also locks in your lineup. So, if you and your opponent press it a split second apart, the 2nd guy will be stuck with whatever lineup the game throws out there. I think that's what was happening to me. I even tried pressing B to "unlock" it, but it didn't work.

In the game against Colorado, I didn't figure it would be a big deal because I had gone into the league options and set my lineups and pitching rotation. But even though that game was Series 1, Game 1, it chose my #5 starter (Sergio Mitre). That's another thing for people to watch out for. Maybe we should just always have the home team enter the lineup screen? The only good news to come out of it was discovering that you can quit in the 1st inning and the game won't count (not a single pitch had been thrown though). But as the Admin, I do have the power to reset games as well, should any connection issues come up, which is good.

It seemed to advance my starters somewhat automatically. First game against Red Worm was Lester and then the first time we tried playing it was going to be Beckett. Well once we tried again it must have thought I'd already used Beckett because it started Buckholz, which is fine as I'll just use Beckett next time.
