Would it surprise you to know that the Subway Series was the third lowest rated? The Giants/Angels the second lowest? These are the major TV markets in the world. You don't need big cities to be involved, you need good stories, as evidenced by the Red Sox's run in 04.
The Subway Series was rightfully one of the lowest. Had it been either team and not both, it would've been higher rated. And a lot of fans are East coast biased is why the Giants/Angels series was low. And they don't have the biggest markets either. And Barry Bonds first WS was not a good enough story for me to watch it.
Boston has a big market, even without the story, they'd have had a decent draw for the WS.
This years WS is between 2 teams that have had losing records since the AS break and one that barely squeeked into the playoffs. No discredit to either team, they made it to the big time this year.
I am a baseball fan, as evident by watching many of the games, without the Red Sox or Reds making the postseason. And being a Reds fan, I hope the Cards lose. And not really caring about the Tigers, I have no desire to watch this WS, even if I wasn't going to be on 3rd shift for the next month.
