Mmmm. Basically you sign up for this true.com service, and then you get a 2000 point card in the mail. The catch is that you can call in to cancel the membership, meaning the card is free.

However, you have to call them to cancel it, which is something I hate doing. Also, Rig tried this, and he got nailed with a $50 month membership. He is charging it back on his credit card, but he them at basically the earliest moment he could, and they still ran his card.

There's a rather large thread about it.
I will attempt it. Unless they pre-auth my temp card number for $50, I can do what I always do and use a temp number with a $1 limit for pre-auths, but leaving them no room to charge me. I assume this is in the free stuffs, so I will investigate.

Edit: Signed up, gracias for the heads up. 2000 free points will make it a lot easier for me to jump into VC with some Ice Hockey.

Where is Chrono Trigger? Mutant League Football/Hockey? General Chaos?

I fucking miss those games, I wish I never traded them into Gamestop.

Edit: Wow, most of those are EA games. What happened to their company?

I called during the day, and it was a very simple process. It took like 2 minutes to cancel.

They did charge him, but Rig is the only one that has been. And apparently, the person taking the call didn't know what they were doing so they didn't cancel the account properly. At least they issued him a full refund.

~ahmed!~

Bought $20 worth of Points from the Store. Hopefully the last time I have to do that (Between Xmas, True.com, Etc)

But, I bought Sonic for the gf for XMas (she kept talking about how much she liked it growing up).

And I also got Gunstar after all the praise I've heard.

Unfortuantely, that leaves me with 400 Points... great.
I picked up Gunstar tonight. Fun, but it's kicking my ass....
I agree...

The Dice Room whooped me
Well, even though it's not needed... I might get one. It seems like it'd be a pain to constantly hook/unhook the Gamecube controller, when you can just plug in the Classic Controller straight into the Wii Remote. But I'm lazy, so...
One two-syllable word: Wavebird.

RD

I enjoy the Wavebird, but I finally stopped using it for the Genesis games, the control scheme is just really awkward to me, especially having to use the analog pad.

I've gone to using the Wiimote on it's side, but I have the CC too, just am too lazy to pull it out generally.

Wavebird works wonderfully for Mario64 though.

How much are WaveBirds now? I've never used one, so I don't own any. They'd probably be around the same price as a Classic Controller, right?
Wavebird works wonderfully for Mario64 though.
I bought a classic controller for the button layout, knowing that I'll demand that ol' SNES-style control when they release an SNES title I really want. I think it's grand that the GC works for all VC titles (they could have disabled it to get you to spend $20 on their CC), but it ain't for me.

On the other hand, it is a very pleasant surprise that the GC controller is fantastic for N64 games. Now if we could just get more of them.

I just had a brilliant idea.

Nintendo should release both the SNES and Genesis versions of Mortal Kombat.

We can watch the SNES version fail all over again!

At least they made up for it with Mortal Kombat II.

Heh no.

The Wired GC controllers are equal in price to the CC, it's a matter of technology. The CC doesn't have any power supply (it sucks on your Wiimote like the nunchuck) and doesn't have to do anything wireless (the Wiimote does that as well).

The Wavebirds can be had for $30-$35 new and a bit cheaper used. I bought 2 at $30ish at Amazon, and they are worth every dollar.

That's why I bought the CC, for the SNES games.

The same is true with Genesis, I had trouble playing Gunstar with my Wavebird because of the funky placement of the buttons. The Wiimote on its side is damn good for that game though, and I've actually kept my CC chilling in its packaging thus far. But once some great SNES titles come out, I'll be using that as well.

Eh, that's not too bad. I might get one just to play some of the backlog of GC games that I have.

Ya, I bought mine before it was announced they'd work for VC games, so it was a pleasant surprise. But ya, having not owned a GC, I would highly recommend getting Wavebird if you need a controller.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I fuckin' *hated* the Genesis version. It lacked the feel of the arcade game 100%.

If we're talkin' cynical VC releases, I want to see Eternal Champions released, so a whole new generation of gamers can pretend to exalt this piece of shit to "classic fighter nobody's played" status.

The SNES version clearly looked superior. All I know is that I was at a sleepover when the Genesis version came out, we had ABACABB'd it to hell a few times, and after a while people got pissed cuz I kept winning.

I think the second it came out on home consoles is about the time I lost all interest in the series.

Playing the owner of the cloest gas station was fun as well. That man was a beast at the game.

Hey now, I owned that game and loved it. Sure it couldn't hold a candle to Street Fighter, but fuck me if I didn't spend hours trying to figure out how to finish my opponents so that the stage would kill them.

i have a fantasy.

i want to see nintendo release a cart that can store VC games on, a gba cart to be exact. since the ds and wii can communicate, it should be pretty easy to transfer the games over. then i could have VC games on the go!

they have to do it, they just have to! id pay 50 bucks for one.
I wish Nintendo would release more games...So far there has been very little in terms of Nes, SNES, and N64.
8700 points.. game over

I hate Mario 2 but my mom will want it, it's her favorite Mario.. and bringing Mario Party to the VC on this system is perfect.. this time next year the VC will probably be better than the Wii's game selection..

Punch-Out!! Nintendo February 19, 2007
Super Metroid Nintendo February 19, 2007

Both of these come out the day after my b-day. I think I'll be asking the wife to get me some VC points.

I have a feeling Kid Icarus will not have aged well, but I will need to buy it. It's one of those games (that and Metroid) that I only managed to get through like two levels of and gave up when I was 10. So it will be worth it if only to build on those attempts.

Holy crap, Nintendo heard my wishes!

Uniracers!
I'll actually pay for that!

As much as I HATE the pricing, I really like that they're releasing these lesser known titles.
Tin Star, etc. Damn, I remember having that Super Scope 6, it was bad ass.

What about the greatest WWF/WWE game ever, AKA WWF No Mercy?
What about the greatest WWF/WWE game ever, AKA WWF No Mercy?
Probably not happening, given the amount of revising necessary to edit out all the "WWF" logos/text in the game. Also probably not happening because they'd rather try to convince you the show is good now, and nostalgia for 6 years ago would only remind you what garbage it is right now.

This list was taken from wikipedia? How assured can we be that it's correct (both on dates and what's on tap)?

Speaking of what's on tap, any word about tomorrow's offerings?
But if you look at them objectively, no way Mario 64 holds up quite as well in 2006 (and yes, I mean from a gameplay/control standpoint in addition to graphics).
I can flat-out tell you that Mario 64 is still head and shoulders above SMS. The levels were better designed, the control was tighter, it didn't feature any lame chases or even lamer water cannon gimmicks and the music was just awesome. The only department SMS has an edge in is graphics, which is still neligible becasue alot (READ: nearly all) of the levels were monotonous in design and function.

If I were to rate them on a sliding scale I would give SM64 a 10/10 when it first came out and a solid 8/10 now, as opposed to SMS getting a 7/10 when first released, opposed to the 6/10.

Well, actually I was refrencing him selling his N64. I figuredbeing the HUGE wrestling mark he is, he would have a soft spot for the greatest WWE game ever released.

I've already come to terms with No Mercy not being on the VC. Though I still THQ is full of boneheads for not doing an "extended" port over to the DS. How hard is it to take the No Mercy Engine, swapp in some new designs and call it a whole new game?
