That would be awesome KA and KI, although Saturday? Seems odd they would choose that over monday?

Anyway I made it to level 3 in Castlevania IV, great game but well I thought bloodlines for the genesis was better that this which konami also better relase. Granted I still have over half the game to make a decision, but overall I have seemed to enjoy bloodlines more for some reason from where I am at now.
IGN.com says saturday 12/30 we're getting kirbys adventure, kid icarus, and hogans alley?

can anyone confirm this?

http://wii.ign.com/objects/865/865075.html kid icarus
http://wii.ign.com/objects/865/865076.html kirby
http://wii.ign.com/objects/865/865074.html hogans alley

that'd be super cool. but it's a saturday? :/
Where did you pull that specific date from? At the links you provided, the only game there with a specific date listed in either America OR Japan is Kid Icarus, apparently arriving in Japan on January 31st. The rest just have a vague guess-of-a-release-date for the US as "December 2006". I'd have to say that until IGN posts a story specifically stating that these are the next games coming out, you ought to take those dates as mere estimates.
So what's confirmed for Monday? Just Urban Champion and Baseball?
As of right now yes, but the releases are usually confirmed to the press on Friday.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you cannot copy the actual VC games to the SD card. You can, however, copy the game's save data (save state "pause" or actual saved game for games that have it) to the SD card.

It looks the same, but if you pay attention to the block usage, the stuff you can copy to the SD card are like between 1-4 blocks, which is smaller than even the NES games are.

I thought that too, but you're able to backup the actual channels as well. I can't remember how I got there, but you go into the Wii/SD memory management section and you can go to channels and copy them to the SD card.

Though if true, I guess we will see how Nintendo is handling light gun games with Hogan's Alley.

if you look at the bottom of IGN.com, it's under upcoming games for 12/30 :/ that's where I got it from.. then the specific pages say december 2006 and japan or europe dont even have dates. except for I think kid icarus, january 31st?

this one is also on the list. http://wii.ign.com/objects/864/864259.html dungeon explorer? for TG16

Dungeon Explorer has been rumored to be released for the last couple weeks, so we'll see. Wouldn't surprise me if all these get released as we only have the two officially announced ones.

Is Kirby's Adventure the one that was remade as Nightmare in Dreamland on GBA?

Here's the list of games currently announced to be released before the end of the year:

Dungeon Explorer is there, but none of the other possibilities.

I'd go freaking crazy if Kirby did come out, I loved that game so much, lol. I havent played nightmare in dreamland, its 35 bucks EVERYWHERE.

No, you can copy both. They're actually two seperate save files under data management: Under "save files", you are correct, are about 1-4 blocks (I think Mario 64 was 3 for me).

But if you go under "channels", you can save the entire files over to your SD card. I copied Mario 64, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic and the Internet Channel over to my SD Card, and it took the same amount of space on that.

That being said, you can't play the game from your SD Card, nor can you transfer it to another Wii... so basically, it's just a backup if your harddrive gets full of content and you have to switch around stuff.

Which makes the SD card useless if something happens to your Wii - as you won't be able to transfer the titles to another console. There are means of redownloading games if that happens, but it certainly isn't ideal.

My question is what will happen with the next Nintendo system? I hope to God Nintendo gives you the options of bringing your VC games over.

Also, I was thinking last night, what kind of games will Nintendo be putting out in say, 3-4 years from now on the VC? It seems like if all the heavy hitters come out in the next two years, only obscure games will be left.

I'd have to think that they'd get a way to use the MyNintendo or a similar login to tie-down the files, but I guess not at the moment. It's pretty lame.

Believe me, Nintendo won't get all the heavy hitters out in 1 - 2 years, espically if they are only doing 1 - 4 a week.

I guarantee Nintendo has planned the next year of VC downloads.

I'm sure that they do.

I'm just happy that Mario Kart 64 should be coming in the next few months. (Judging by the fact that it will be out in Japan soon, I have to hope that it will be in the U.S. soon as well.)

I can live with them spacing the games out. I've got plenty of backlogged Cube games to play through anyway.

I'm sure that must be a placeholder date posted before Nintendo's VC Monday plan was announced. There are even other IGN articles that refer to the Christmas update as the last one of the year.

yeah youre right, i just noticed it has like 8 games listed for the 30th, lol. but there was always hoping that IGN was telling the truth. :[

Managed to pick up a 2k Wii points card on Tuesday and bought Super Mario Bros. and Gunstar Heroes right now. I've noticed some graphical issues, like sprites (Goombas and the main characters of GH) flickering on and off while playing the game. Could it just be my crappy TV that's causing this or is this an issue with the games?

I've seen exactly the same thing (with SMB) on my component cable HDTV setup. So I don't think it's the TV. I just figured the game was originally like that (only played it a few times 18 years ago).

I played it on my crappy composite cables and I've seen it happen too, though I've only noticed it on world 8-4 with the piranna plants.
Mario 3 is never coming. :(
Now now, don't be so hopeless, we know it is coming. It may take longer than Duke Nukem Forever has been in development but I gurantee you it is coming . In all seriousness I want fucking mario 3 just as bad, because that just may be my favorite game ever.

Do yourself a favor and never play a Super Mario Brothers 3 ever again. The game loses a lot in this day and age (unlike Super Mario World).

Actually one of my biggest disappointments with playing old NES games today is that as a little kid I did not notice the graphical glitches all over the place in even SMB3, Nintendo's flagship title for the system. The right side of the screen has color glitches when you scroll, flickering things, etc...

Sigh...but I will say that out of all of the SMB games, 3 is just as close to World if not tied to it. I think its the difficulty that really makes it enjoyable, because frankly I had a female friend who couldn't play any other SNES game other than SMW but she could get over 50 lives just 10 minutes into playing a new game...Super Mario World was just a little too easy in my opinion.
Do yourself a favor and never play a Super Mario Brothers 3 ever again. The game loses a lot in this day and age (unlike Super Mario World).
I replay it all the time. It's a fantastic game from start to finish even today. Super Mario World, while more refined, still reaks a bit of copycatness off of 3. The jump from 1->3 was much greater than 3->World. Not the World is bad at all, but I prefer 3 by leaps and bounds.

But, the whole Mario 3 vs. Mario World debate is like Nintendo Fanboy civil war territory. ;)

I don't think it loses a thing. Me and my friends regularly play 2 player on the NES, and it's as fun as it ever was.

I think SMB3 established a lot of the series' staple gameplay. Super Mario World is good, better than most any other platformers, but it's got SMB3 on one side of it, and Yoshi's Island on the other. Not a favorable spot to be put for comparisons, as both are clearly far superior designs.

I couldn't disagree with you guys more. I feel Super Mario Brothers 3, while the best NES Mario platformer, comes in a distant fourth behind World, 64, and NSMB in the grand scheme of traditional Mario platformers.

But that's what opinions are all about I suppose. Just because I think I'm right doesn't mean I am right.

I suppose nostalgia has a lot to do with it. SMB3 is the first one I really played a TON of as a kid. SMB1 and 2 were good too, but I never really enjoyed them as much.

SMB3 just has a magical quality to it that can't be re-created. I love the enemy designs, the level designs, the sprites, everything is just so perfectly balanced between that early blocky NES stuff and the slightly too pastel/soft look of Super Mario World. (and many early SNES games) The Cape never felt as fun as flying with the racoon tail. And the Raccoon tail just makes no sense.

Things like the Kuribo's Shoe, Tanuki Suit, Giant World, and the music overall just make SMB3 so quirky and different. The Airships and Koopa Kids too, really set it apart from other Mario games. The game feels more dark, especially when playing through the 8th world.

I think it'd be amazing to have a wide open 3D mario that manages to capture the look of SMB3, with many of those kinds of creatures and abilities. Probably won't and can't be done, but I'd eat it up.

I think I'd rank the 2D Mario games somewhere like this:
1. Mario 3
2. Yoshi's Island
3. NSMB
4. Mario World
5. Mario 1
89. Mario 2 (really, really don't like that game ;) )

I was playing SMB, two player mode, on my Wii with my girlfriend yesterday. She played as Mario and I played as Luigi. I did the unlimited lives trick at the end of World 3-1. After dying a couple of times on purpose beforehand because I couldn't do the trick right and wanted to keep trying (haven't played the game in a while and I just downloaded it). After doing the trick successfully, I died a few levels later, and at that point I just got a "Game Over" screen. I was like "WTF? I know I got at least 20 extra lives". Has this happened to anybody else, is it normal? It looks like the game just ignored all the extra lives that I had earned:lol: I hope it's not a glitch.

so we're only getting two NES games tomrorrow? Nothing else has been announced? I've got 800 points burning a hole in my pocket.. might want to get F-Zero or ToeJam+Earl, but want to wait to see what comes on monday.
SMB3 sucks, who's played Military Madness? Recommend it?
If you want an elementary version of advance wars, go for it. I was a bit dissapointed. Haven't put a lot of time into it yet though, so it might get better.

Yea, I'd have to agree with him. Though I'm sure it has the same tactical depth at some level, it does seem like a elementary version of advance wars. It's a fun little diversion though, and I don't think it's a bad deal for the price.

Just make sure you don't go into it thinking it's going to be some graphical masterpiece or that it'll be a breeze, it can be decently challenging.

What are the chances the 4 player NES games will make it to the VC ? And are any of them worth it ?

I never played a 4 player NES game and was wondering if any of them were decent.

the nightmare on elm street was a 4 player game. Very fun if you were lucky to get a multitap for the nes. Got nightmares when i saw freddy in the game....
