Can't belive all this ill will towards Gunstar Heroes. The graphics were simply crazy (back in the day) the music is pretty damn rocking, the gameplay is kinda like Contra, but with way better stage design (not to mention bosses) and it's co-op hasn't been rivaled until Gears of War showed up.
I love that comment about random button mashing (whoever said it), you can button mash in
any game, that doesn't mean you'll win that way

Try BMing in GH and you'll die before you beat one stage.
While we're at it, WTF is up with SMW and SM64 bashing?! Super Mario World had something YI and SMB3 didn't: variety. As for SM64, sure, it lost a bit of luster since creating 3-D games as we know it, but it's still a fun game, with tight control and some of the best level design in any game, ever. Only things I'd knock it for would be crappy boss fights that were little more than a gimmick, a mediocre camera and blocky visuals.
It's one thing to say " I don't like ______", it's another altogether to say "______ sux / is overated". Seriously, just because you lack the ability to enjoy good games, doesn't make the games themselves bad, keep that in mind.
And saying something is overrated is just as much a statement of opinion as that of the people who are supposedly overrating it. Need I compare it to a current example of GTA games being very highly rated while I think they're extremely lame?
As far as my button mashing comment, Happy Panda said it more succinctly: Hold the shoot button and run. Anyway, that was referring explicitly to Gunstar Super Heroes, so whether it holds true in GH, I couldn't say.
Keep in mind, many of us never had a Genesis, so we have none of the nostalgia that makes old games shinier.
