I know I'm a bit late about this, but the Virtual Console/Playstation Online... thing, just got owned:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6163993.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6163993

Yea I watched the video footage earlier today, I'm surprised Sony didn't get this on the Playstation Store first....seems like the 360 would be the last console for it to appear on .

As for the virtual console, they need to release Military Madness and Neutopia/Neutopia II!!!! They should also put out Ninja Spirit just to piss everyone off. If you ever played it or get a chance to play it, you'll know what I mean -_^. The level where you have the long drop down is just pure luck to survive IMO

Playstation store needs to step it up if they want to actually have a fighting chance :booty::bomb:

Oh ok. I didn't bother to check, I've been reading so many threads...

Neutopia is fun, it's a zelda-esque adventure game, I liked it ^^.

They should try and get PC engine games like YS Book I&II on the VC.
If they ever get that game on there...:bouncy::hot::hot: I'll be sold on the Wii instantly. I already want to get one, but that would seal the deal right there ;)

Guardian legend anyone? Best NES game IMO

Hey Fragalot,

no you don't need to subscribe to Live to download anything from marketplace. Live is only if you want to play multiplayer online. Oh yeah they also started delaying demos and other things for a week for people with silver (free) memberships to make it seem like the $50 is a little more worth it.

Super Star Soldier/Soldier blade comparisons?

I can't really give a review because I suck and can't get past the second levels of each game lol, so I'll just give impressions.

I played them back to back to get the freshed perspective. Soldier Blade seems faster to me and I really like the pacing, but I prefer Super Star Soldier because the weapon powerups are way better. Like you can get ships that you can toggle to be on the left&right or front&back of you. This helped with my strategy because they are like shields that you can place depending on enemy fire. It's not the same but it reminds me of the ikaruga mechanic, where switching will protect you.

So I really prefer the speed and pacing of soldier blade but the weapons aren't as good, so I am leaning more towards Super Star Soldier. Bear in mind, there might be some kickass weapons after stage 2 but I can't pass it lol so I might not ever know.

The thing with both is don't let the difficulty discourage you, SHMUPS are supposed to be difficult and fortunately as far as I know it is unlimited continues on both games, so one day I will make it to the third level.

I almost purchased Super Mario Bros. for 500 points, and then thankfully stopped myself. Why buy it for $5.00 when you can get it for around $0.25 cents!?

Nintendo not putting up some games that I actually want is (almost) making me do silly things.

Ya know, I do the same thing. I get some points in my account and they sit there..and week after week I'm like "I want to use these points!!"...and I almost want to buy some stuff, but realize it's crap. They probably know what they are doing.

They are probably giving us shit for a few months, and sadly some will bite and buy some of it. THEN when a REALLY good and highly anticipated game comes out and they KNOW the vast majority will purchase it: They will end up charging $2+ on the game. ..Grr

Yeah, you see points just sitting there... doing nothing, and you think about how they could be converted into gaming goodness and just want to get it over with.

It's probably why I can't save money, impulse buys be damned.

Another silly problem that comes up for me is resisting the impulse to improve the Wii Menu's aesthetics. But Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda screens on that front page sure would look nice...

Actually, that's what's been tempting me the most, too.
Gain Ground, Bonanza Bros, Comix Zone on the 22nd.

To bad these games are on the genesis collection, already any sega is charging 800 Wii points for them, fuckers (actually I probably would of bought alot more sega games if there was no collection).

yeah, thank sega for the collection.. I wonder whats for next week :[

They only reason Sega is dumping them over is because the games are already upgraded and running in 480p... it's a simple process just to take what is already there, add in one or two games for people who may own the collection to get their money (Streets of Rage), and make some easy money.

Expect to see all of the games on the collection on the VC really soon.

But that fucking sucks that we're ONLY getting those three the week after next... this is the first week I'll bitch about the VC because that's retarded. I didn't realize they were dumping those three for next week and that's ALL we're getting.

Sega said all 5 games will be out in Jan so we'll see Streets of Rage and Biohazard Battle real soon.

Are we sure that those are the ONLY three games coming out on the VC that day? I just checked Nintendo's press site, and it does not have a press release yet.
Are we sure that those are the ONLY three games coming out on the VC that day? I just checked Nintendo's press site, and it does not have a press release yet.
The list is from Sega itself, so I'll take it as fact. And since the VC is 1 - 4 games per week, unless they slip in another game it looks like this is all we will get.

I can't find any source on the 1-4 quota. I had thought I heard 3-5, but obviously both our ranges have exceptions (5 on Christmas Day and 2 on New Year's Day). Nintendo has got to dip into the back catalog a little bit... even if it's not the greatest of games!
The list is from Sega itself, so I'll take it as fact. And since the VC is 1 - 4 games per week, unless they slip in another game it looks like this is all we will get.
Well they did say 10 a month right now we have 5. There are three mondays left in January so according to that list we would need 1 this week, 3 on the monday after that and 1 the week after that? Or has Nintendo skipped the whole 10 a month thing? Either way next week is looking like crap due to wario's release.

I wish Nintendo would put out a press release on Friday to announce Monday's games. They did it a couple times, it's a shame they stopped. Further, I wish Nintendo would just release the games on Friday. Before the weekend sounds better than after.

Why isn't this a sticky yet, btw? This was on the second page!

I'm getting alot of fun out of Super Star Soldier and Soldier Blade, both of them are great shmups I'd never played before VC; gameplay is fast, hectic and fun.

I would have definately picked up Gunstar if I didn't have it on Genesis.

Between SSS and SB, which do you like more? I love shooters, would be interested in picking one up.

I loved the first Neutopia. It's like Zelda with four distinct worlds and a lantern flame that eventually stretches across the entire screen. Never played its sequel.
Hopefully we get something else besides those Genesis games, I'd much rather just pay the $20.00 and get the collection on the PS2.
It's a long shot but I'm hoping for LttP.

I'd like to see either a SNES AAA release or a N64 game come out this week. I'm dying for another good classic game like a Zelda or a Mario or something.

Well, I have a feeling it'll be something already released in Japan... and I don't think they have anything except SM 64 right now either.

I just really want an SNES AAA release, but I have a feeling we won't get anything until Japan gets it first, so this rules out a ton of games right off the bat.

I haven't played LttP in a long time (despite owning an SNES and the game... too much hassle to hook up) so I'm really really really hoping it's this.

Throw me Zelda 2 for NES, LttP for SNES, and that'll be an awesome Monday.

Yeah, that'd be nice. And I believe Japan has "Super Mario World" already. I'd much rather get LttP since I haven't played that in a long time as well.

Well, it's gotta be something, and the big N is running out of shitty titles to give us if they are pieceing out what Japan already has.

We already know what's coming on the 22nd... we already know Streets of Rage and Biohazard Battle will be either the 15th or the 29th, so that leaves a week where we have to get something, and from what I've seen there isn't alot more weeks where we'll get shit like Baseball or Urban Champion.

Warioware won't have an impact on the VC, and besides, Warioware ships Monday, in stores Tuesday.

What I wish is Best Buy would get some points cards in stock... it's ridiculous there is a shortage of points cards. A shortage on plastic and fake currency? Give me a break Nintendo.

As for Warioware Nintendo says it is waiting for the drought of games for the system to release good VC games, so well, I am just assuming that they are going to release crap but maybe something good.

As for points cards I am having the same fucking problem. My Wal Mart has NO Wii stuff (except for the Wii storage and protection kit), and it annoys me that I can't find a piece of paper with a little scratch off area inside one of those fucking plastic packages (don't have a CC and thats a good thing in this situation).

At the end of that press release, even though it said Q1 2007, Sega announced all 5 games would be out by the end of Janurary... Streets of Rage was even in the same sentence, something like "Gamers around the world will enjoy all 5 games by the end of Jan. 2007".

I didn't realize Nintendo said that themselves about Wario Ware... since the drought seems to happen after Warioware, if they can fill in the gaps with amazing VC games every Monday I'll be more than happy :D

I can understand not having systems, or accessories, but not to have fucking plastic cards? Is there a shortage of codes in the code generator or something? I have a CC, but I'd love to GGC these things at Best Buy and get them for $15 a piece.

Don't expect anything spectacular this coming Monday, Wario is coming out on Wii and they'll want to focus on that. Expect more crap.

The only crap Japan has right now (that isn't a huge AAA title), that we don't have, is this:

NES -

Xevious (ugh, I bet it's this...)

Genesis -

Shadow Dancer

And some more random TG 16 games like New Adventure Island.

Unless they are going to give us something new Japan dosen't have, but I reeeeeeeeeally doubt it. So yea, they are starting to run out of crap to pawn off on us.

So yea, a real prediction is probably Xevious, Shadow Dancer, and I'll say 1 or 2 TG 16 titles.

I disagree, they could give us DK Jr Math, Donkey Kong 3, and Golf. Overall though they are starting to run out of NES titles that are crappy (1st party anyway, I am sure companies like jaleco can help bring in some other fillers). Don't get your hopes up Roufuss, because you might be dissapointed this week as for the week after next, that will be interesting and we might see something.

The only thing I can figure is that retailers didn't order a ton of these not knowing how well they'd sell and it turns out they have sold better than expected. I can't imagine it is an actual shortage of cards produced (unless the surprise is on Nintendo's side and they really didn't make that many because they expected lower sales). It would be nice to get some actual VC sales info from Nintendo to see how they are doing vs what they expected. That might help explain things. But I'm assuming we may never hear about that.

I, too, was surprised at how little Wii stuff I saw when I was out tonight. GameCrazy, Gamestop, and Target had NOTHING for the Wii beyond games and 3rd tier accessories (carrying bags, overpriced Wii-branded SD cards, etc).
Now I'm definitely going to snag the first Wii Points card I see at an EB/GS or GC (so I can use store credit). So far I've been able to skate through from the launch day (when I bought Mario 64) through Christmas (when I bought SMB) to now on just the one card I got at launch. But I don't want to be caught off-guard when some awesome SNES or N64 game gets released and I only have 500 points (since I won't use my CC to get more - too expensive).

Target did have 6 60GB PS3's though ;).

'sat the one with the bug spray? If so, I thought it was alright...but alright in the "Nintendo should give me 200 points to download the game" way.

I agree io. My local BB has been wiped since November. I've got a 2000 Points Card on order from buy.com's $20 off $50 from November 25th still. And I've got a $20 BB Gift Card waiting to be used... as soon as they get some points in.

Are you in Arizona? Because yesterday at my Target, it was the same exact thing... nothing but 3rd party carrying bags, and actually only 2 SD cards (I can't believe people pay those prices for a 512!)

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this, maybe the PS2 launch? I remember memory cards being hell of hard to find, and of course the PS2 itself.
Xevious is a good guess, I believe Europe just got that thrown on their VC on Friday.
Yep, I'm no getting my hopes up for anything good... just Xevious.

Europe also has Moto Roader too... I think it'll be Xevious and Moto Roader.

SB has better graphics and cooler looking enemies (especially the bosses, reminds me of a Megaman X type art style) from the 3 levels of each that I played. Don't get me wrong, both of them look great but SB has the edge graphically. SSS is more challenging/frustrating due to the fact that you have to restart (to the beginning of the level) nearly every time you die; some people take it as overly frustrating, I tend to look at it as more rewarding and challenging in that you pretty much have to have a perfect run to advance.

The powerups system for both games is pretty much the same and both are challenging either way, I think most players would prefer SB over SSS b/c of the better graphics and more forgiving gameplay (in that you don't have to restart the level when you die).

Hope that helps; if you are a huge shmup fan I'd go with both, if you just want one of them SB is probably the better choice.

And some Donkey Kong Country...
Yeah the only advantage XBLA is achievements, and yes the Wii needs achievement points. Like lets say if some guy here beats soldier blade on hard without continuing (which is super super super hard), nobody is going to believe him unless he had video or the achievement, or somebody watched him do it.
