Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - Get Your Feline Fingered Copy!

It made sense to you to run to the old guy, look at the missions, find out what the new objectives were, run all the way back home, swap gear, go back to the old guy and then accept the mission?
to me it made sense. A large portion of the game is dedicated to planning out how you're going to tackle each situation. You can't bring everything... that would totally throw the game off anyway... but if it makes you happy, you can change your hair any time in your home :)
Man this game's awesome, but I suck at killing wyverns. Actually I die everytime, so anyone have any tips?

mainly watch them alot take it slow initially whenever you face a new monster type. Like alot of old megaman games, just pay attention to what they do in their attacks and when it's safe to hop in for a hit or two. Wyverns are the kings in the game so be careful. I'm stuck at Tigrex (the monster on the cover of the game) and I know it's mainly due to my equipment and knowlage of what he does... basically I need to improve.

I never got past the "carry the wyvern egg very slowly" quest in the first one. How does one observe a wyvern in order to do that?

this time the egg carrying is 100% optional now... I barely even do them.

:D YES! I just killed a dragon (Yian Kut Ku)!! I know it's the easiest one, but man this is the first time I've done it after getting frustrated so many times!!

Appearently the bow and arrow is very noob friendly!

yeah, the first time I killed the Kut Ku I was so happy. it's a a great feeling. Just wait till you get to the rathalos... >_< I still hate that thing... and don't even mention the Garuga.

going through the training quests takes so much time and it's starting to get boring but i need to know the basics of the game before heading off to battle :(

The nice thing for people who played the first one is that you are given the choice to skip all training missions...

also note, go to the "download" section of the menu... you can now download two quests and a bonus pack with poogle clothes, new felines for farm/kitchen, and some other stuff I forgot.

I loved the first one, thinking about trading in some older titles I have to get this one. just wondering, are the missions deeper in the game extremely hard to do by yourself like in the first one?

Guild Quests: Yes

Elder Quests: No

I've been doing the Guild Quest first, no wonder they're freakin hard.

Does anyone else have control issues? Sometimes i'd run up to a mob and try to attack and my character just stands there like a dumbass waiting to be smacked. Other times i'd tell it to move one direction and it goes a different way. I'm thinking its because of my launch PSP.

picked up monster hunter freedom 1 from a local GS, gonna spend some serious time with it to get back into the monster hunter groove, then it's on to monster hunter freedom 2!

Sorry to bump such an old topic, but whats the deal with this game.

I've never played a Monster Hunter game and its getting lackbuster reviews all over the internet, yet it sold a gagillion copies in Japan and seems to quite the US following.

I enjoy action/adventure games and rpgs and love to "level" characters up (probably why I still have my WoW subscription even though I rarely play). Is this game for me or is it a frustrating lump of poo like the reviewers say? Is it worth it to grab this game or should I forget it and grab FFT?

it's definately worth a grab. it's not like a traditional rgp though, there's no leveling up or such. and the reason for getting lackluster reviews IMO, is fucked up because reviewers docked 4 whole points for the game not having online.

but back on topic, it's the most massive adventure game on a handheld, it's looks great, it's a lot of fun, and has really cool local multiplayer. if you're new to the series, buy monster hunter freedom 1.

Well, if you don't have anyone else to play with and can't use Xlink Kai, this game is like a zero - it gets impossibly hard by the 2nd or 3rd level of elder quests. I got frustrated after my 4 millionth attempt at one of the bosses... Can't wait till Christmas when my brother gets the game.

What exactly is Xlink Kai?

It's so funny becuase I havent seen a game have this polarized reviews in a long time. Some absolutly love it, others loath it...in this case loath due to its difficulty.

But isnt MHF2 superior in every way to MHF1...graphics, more quests, loading, etc.?

Sadly, none of my friends own PSPs and I didn't know this was a big factor when I got this. I figured the bazillion Japanese putting hundreds of hours of time into this was testament enough. Now I'm kind of regretting it. Also, if I had known it had the freaking awful MPO-style camera, that would have been enough to make me reconsider. Huge red flag.

I hope to make a second effort to get into this some day, but with all the games coming out, I don't know when that'll be.

Yes. There's no reason to start with part one, though a save from MHF1 gets you some extra items and money in MHF2, I believe.

Xlink Kai is a free program you run on your PC that allows you to play this game and others with other people over the internet. Your PSP thinks they are just local wireless players. However, I can't get it working right on my PC. I'll meet people in the lobby, but we always get dropped before we can complete a quest.
Still, everybody should give it a shot 'cause it can improve your MHF2 experience significantly.

Now that sounds interesting. I think I'll pick it up and give it a whirl...I would love to sit on the couch while the woman watches her tv shows and do a few quests online.

Thanks!

how many hours have you dumped into MHF RR? Hopefully I'll be able to get monster hunter freedom 2 when I can catch it on sale soon.

looking at my gamesave... 100 hours and 37 min. I finally have a very badass set of armor that I can change the color of at my house whenever I want. It's probably the best I've ever gotten. I'm still playing it though I find the hunter rank 5 stuff nearly impossible due to not having people to play with.

ok. I still really want to get MHFII (I'm still playing 1 alot) i'll prolly get it around christmas when I'm pulling in more cash at work. I just never seem to find the big monster battles get old. :)

So I'm going to be that guy and mention that I picked up the first Monster Hunter game today. I played very briefly, and I'm more pleased than I thought I would be with it. I rushed through the conversation with the village chief and grabbed the first mission I could and ran out to fight. I'm not too sure what my objective was, I just ran around and killed shit. But I noticed my weapon dulled very quickly, and I wasn't sure how to complete my objective. So I'm going to start over and read everything this time around. But do you guys have any good tips for a MH newbie?

a good starting weapon to train on is the sword and sheild. play some of the basic missions to get a feel for the areas. best thing to do is to learn the levels and also your enemy attack patterns (mainly the larger beasts). When you feel you understand the game more, start trying the different weapons. be sure to try all of them and play around with each extensively. you'll find one you like.

I honestly think you should pick up MHFII due to the more user friendly system it has as well as the number of items available + double the amount of weapon types.

Goddamit I already bought this game. Gah, the Japanese and their obsession with tweek-centric perfection... >_

I sure hope we get the third PSP game here in the states too... But don't worry, Gunm. You have months and months before it comes here, if ever.

Oh, my bro and son got the game for Christmas, so now I can play 3 player! It's insanely fun, and I've gotten wayyy farther in the game. You definitely need at least one other person to play with.

gunm, just play this version. the "G" version is more like an upgrade and you can use the save file to continue in "G". it wont erase anything if you play "G" it'll just add more content to work with.

At this point, I'm glad I grabbed MHI for $12. It's a neat game, but I dont know if I would like it at the anything other than $20 at this point.

I grabbed the giant hammer and bought some armor and faired much better than just going in naked. I've done two missions so far, one was to just dick around for 50 minutes(left the game on and went off to get dinner and whatnot) then I had to get 2 bits of meat for the chief, and that was pretty fun. I did a bit of hit and run on the monsters, hit them and move away, watch how they attack, and move with them/attack when theres an opening.

I'm pleased with my purchase thus far and if the first one leaves me craving more, then I'm definitely going to grab the latest version.

just wait till you fight the larger monsters to find out what the real meat of the game is like. I can't stress enough though that patience is key in this game.

also, I just recently got back int playing MHFII again since I took a long trip earlier this week and had this to play. I'm currently obsessed with finishing some high level armor sets. after that I'll finish some of the weapons I wanted and finally finish that last elder quest i never got around to.
You waited three days to ask people THAT? God damn.
So what part of the radio industry are you expecting to work in, exactly?
You waited three days to ask people THAT? God damn.
No, I just thought of that one on the spot. Didn't even have to do a weak cop of someone else's post or anything either.

I took a long break from it, but just jumped back in getting armors that I wanted. I'm stuck at the monsters right before the highest rank in the guild and man... i need people. I can't fight most alone.

Then it's worth a serious look. If I manage to pick this up it will be this week or never. If you don't hear from me by Friday then I'm basically gonna be worthless.

I'm much more interested in Frontier since it's built for multiplayer net play but apparently everything outside of Japan is blocked.

Yes, and I'm pissed as hell about that... capcom USA really needs to jump on it.

I'm taking a small break, but I plan to play within the next 2 weeks. I just got Arkanoid DS and Bomberman Land for PSP so those need some attention before I go back to this time sink. :)

Man, I want that. I already never take my PSP out of the house so making it less portable doesn't really matter. That'd make racing games a breeze to play.
