Note: GameStop is no longer taking pre-orders for the CCP bundle.
Bonus: 500 Wii Points for pre-ordering at GameStop.
Amazon has the bundle for $59.99 and are offering a $10 video games credit.

If you're planning on getting MH3, it is HIGHLY recommended that you play it using the CCP and NOT the Wiimote/Nunchuk combo. I think Nintendo will sell the CCP separately for $19.99. This is a great deal.

Also, the game is confirmed to be FREE to play online! :applause:

I got my demo yesterday. Wasn't any hassle, other than waiting in line to ask for one since they decided to keep the display hidden at the end of the counter facing the employees.

Tried the first quest once and I suck horrendously but I'll take another whack at it tonight, this time making use of the evade and block buttons.

My son discovered "traps," the joys of the switch axe, and made his first kill.

Looks like I found my split screen co-op partner.

What is the online community like? Do they trend older?

Like many others, the Gamestops in my area wouldn't give it to me without a fight.

One Gamestop almost gave it to me, until the employee decided to ask his co-worker about it. I showed them the print out of the capcom-unity blog post, and they kept on asking me what site it was. Eventually, they told me they were going to call corporate offices to double check and give me a call back.

The other Gamestop did give it to me, though I had to fight him a little bit. He kept on telling me that it is "technically" not free because no Gamestop demos are free, the demo was intended for pre-orders only, and other reasons. I told him I read online it was free, was about to give him the print out, but he said "forget it, I'll just give you the hook-up. Just promise me you'll come back and pre-order it."

It's times like these I wish the Wii could download big demos instead. What a hassle for a free demo disc that stores obviously had a surplus of.

No shit. I hope both Capcom and Nintendo get wind of this crap, though I would imagine Reggie wouldn't give a shit because he is too busy using twenties as rolling papers for his big ass cigars of success.
The hitboxes are fixed from what I've played of the japanese version.
The controls are still poorly designed. The camera is from an N64 game. The game offers you very little in the way of the sort of clues-in-design that let you know how effective your strategies are. Hitboxes or not, polish isn't MH's strong suit.

Ugh. Admittedly I still haven't gotten around to trying the demo yet, but all of this is starting to talk me out of my pre-order. I'm torn because I do want a Classic Controller Pro regardless (the regular Classic Controller is too small to be comfortable for me), so I can pretty much subtract the cost of that from the cost of the game in figuring out how much I'm actually paying for it, which makes it a better deal . . . But it's still going to be around $27 just for the game part of it regardless, which isn't worth it if it's something that I'm going to hate/not want to play. I don't even know how much playing the demo will really tell me, since I won't have the Classic Controller Pro to play it with. Decisions, decisions . . .

I got the demo from my GameStop without having to pre-order although the GameStop by me is actually a really nice store compared to what I've heard from many others. I've played though both of the missions and I'm very glad with it, will pick up a copy for sure.

No need to rush a decision, really. You have over a month to get around to playing the demo and figuring out if you want to spend the money on the game.

And at least for the sword and shield I tried first, the remote+nunchuk control scheme is perfectly serviceable. The shield bash is done by double-tapping gangsta style! My opinion could change with other weapons though.
2 GameStops near me are letting you get the demo disk for free (i.e. the right way) and the other 5 are requiring a preorder to get the disk (i.e. the wrong way). :/
I went to the more convenient of the two that said no preorder was required, and I guess there was a shift change, because they tried to tell me it was a preorder bonus. I then pointed out the sign on the box that clearly states that the preorder bonus is the 500 Wii Points card. They still weren't sure, but they let me leave with the demo disk. Sheesh.

I had no problems picking up the demo disk yesterday at one of the local Gamestops. I asked if they had it and they gladly gave me one, no pre-order required. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, though.

I grabbed a demo disc this weekend. I asked the clerk if it was free but he had no idea so he just 'gave' it to me.

The demo is awesome. I have the original MH for PS2 but i never liked it because of the camera control. With the wii remote controls the camera is mapped to the d-pad which makes it much easier to play. I couldn't find my classic controller to try it.

They told me that I had to pre-order. I knew better, but decided it wasn't worth the fight. I can always switch my $5 credit to something else...and I KNOW that I will be spending $5 at Gamestop not that far in the future.

The disc did say free not for sale, but then it also had some kind of wording on it about reserve and pre-order. I'm really not surprised that GS employees are confused.

My local gamestop wouldn't give me the demo disc without a preorder because she claimed it had a 500 Wii Points card was included. I was puzzled because I thought that the 500 Wii Points was at the pickup of the game. I was interested in the game slightly, and 500 Wii Points seemed nice, so I preordered. Guess what? There was no 500 points card inside. Time to return my preorder.
I had some Gamestop idiot try and tell me you had to preorder and I explained that that was not how Capcom viewed it and he handed it over. Stupidest thing I ever heard: a demo only for people who are BUYING the game?? Makes zero sense, those people are already commited.
Thanks for this post. They tried the same thing at my Gamestop and I said the same thing you said and they clammed up and forked it right over. They know they are wrong and are just being douches about it to try and get pre-orders.

That being said, it's not entirely unprecedented -- see: the God of War III demo being an Amazon pre-order "bonus".

Very different situation.
First off, Amazon orders are shipped with no physical location to pick a demo up, so they wanted an order to stick the demo in. Not crazy about that, but that was how it was set up and it made sense for the reason I mentioned.
Seondly, Sony didn't release it saying it was free and then Amazon decided on a random basis to put up a hoop to jump through to get it.
And probably the biggest reason: God of War is HUGE (at least in the US) compared to Monster Hunter. GOW3 doesn't need additional freebies and bonuses to sell a bazillion copies.

Those loading screens as you move around seem kind of annoying. I mean in the videos posted. I haven't tried my copy yet. Regardless of the loading screens, I can't say those videos are making me think I'm going to like this game, though. There doesn't seem like there's much to it. Hopefully I'm just missing something that will become apparent once I try the demo.

I was answering only the assertion that it's stupid to offer a demo only to people buying a game, not any of the rest of that. I agree that it's stupid (actually, after playing the GoW3 demo, I canceled my pre-order), but it happens.

Yeah, that was my thought as I watched it too -- those loading screens, if they're really that common, will annoy me really quickly.

Emailed GameStop customer support about it, and they confirmed that a preorder was not required for a demo. Try taking this printout with you to show them, if they say you have to preorder.

Sorry to ask, I know people are entitled to their opinions, but why?

Got my demo disc. They tried to tell me I had to preorder, I gave them a little lip (I was already pissed because they tried to over charge me on my FF13) and as I turned to walk out they gave it to me.
I am starting to hate that specific gamestop (all the employees are assholes)

If it's like the demo, it's a pretty short load to the number areas (zones), longer load when it loads the map initially. Sorry my termonology is all over the map with this game.
Sorry to ask, I know people are entitled to their opinions, but why?
Honestly, because it didn't seem like a game that's worth $60 to me. The demo didn't really grab me, and I've got too many other new games coming that I'm more interested in. I know that it's mirroring the previous God of War games, but I don't care for the fixed camera position -- I want to be able to move the camera. There were a few points in the demo where I couldn't see what was going on because the background was in the way. And honestly, it seemed to me like it would (like the other God of War games) get pretty repetitive after a while.

I probably will pick it up when the opportunity comes to get it cheaper. I may apply my $10 Amazon credit from FFXIII and some credit that I have from Bing Cashback and get it now, but I was also considering saving those for Resonance of Fate or Alan Wake.

I think this is the case at most Gamestops.. at least the few that I have visited. All the employees are usually stuck-up "gaming elitists"

Don't let me dissuade you bro. Acquire a demo disc by hook or by crook. I imagine you can just cancel your dang preorder after having the demo disc anyway.

Blame GameStop Inc. for bad employees, they can't help being jerks because they need to get pre-orders for hours to work.

Does this game come as a regular edition if so how much? (planing on buying the deluxe edition and returning it as a regular copy heh heh heh..)

Most bundled items have no bar code and say NOT FOR RESALE.

Tried to pick the demo disc up at two local Gamestops but they both fed me (and one other person inquring about it as well) the same "preorder only" BS. At the second one I pointed out to the clerk the flawed logic in only giving the demo disc (intended to "sell" someone on the game) to people who had already committed to buying - I think I saw sparks fly out of the back of his head as his synapses struggled to comprehend such an involved and complex theory :D

I think the worst part of this whole ordeal is that the Gamestop employees make you feel like a crook for wanting a free demo without a pre-order.

I really didnt enjoy the demo that well . But maybe the FULL game will be better ........ I think I might have overhyped this game inside my head :(

Oh, I got one, I just haven't had time to play it yet. I will try it for myself before deciding, but several of the things that I'm seeing here (not just your post) are likely deal breakers for me.

I went to 2 Gamestops to try and get the demo. First one I went to I got the pre-order only bs. I didnt argue because I was going to a second gamestop anyway.

Got to the second gamestop and they were sitting right there on the front counter for anyone. I saw them but asked about it anyway as if I hadn't seen them and he was happy to let both me and a friend grab one. This was in Machesney Park btw in case anyone near me is looking for one.

So it's definitely YMMV on getting them. Or at least getting them easily.

i got a question about the multiplayer aspect of this game. Will you be able to join up with people randomly or only play with the friend code system?

Playing the demo removed the excitement that this thread created for me. Hunting the t-rex looking thing didn't turn out to be very entertaining. Can the demo be played with a Gamecube controller? Maybe I will give it another shot if it does, but the Wii-mote controls are horrible, as I expected from discussion in this thread. Furthermore, the game looks below the average crappy graphics I expect from the Wii.

The game is basically meant to be played with the Classic Controller, thats why they've released the bundle in the first place. Its the closest controller emulation of what most MH fans are already used to on the psp/ps2. That being said, I wouldn't take too much out of the demo as its probably very limited versus what Monster Hunter is really all about. Building your gear, playing with friends, and ultimately becoming a skilled player. I haven't played the demo yet myself, but I would imagine the monsters aren't too much of a challenge.

I was looking into some multiplayer gameplay videos of Tri and ones like these got me even more excited:

Question for anyone that has pre-ordered the game. Did you pay the game off when you pre-ordered and if you did, did you get the $5 off the price? I tried to pay the game off and they were trying to charge me full price. I was the $5 off was online only.

Been awhile since I've looked up info about the JP version (trying to keep self hype to a minimum), but I think it'll work like PSO/U did/does. Big lobby system to meet up with people, group up with whomever, go kill monsters :bouncy:

Took me 10 mins to convince the gamestop clerk to let me have a demo without preordering. I finally said I'd cancel my preorder with gamestop.com (which wasn't good enough for them to give me the demo I guess) and order the game from amazon, that worked.

I went to Gamestop and first thing looked for the Monster Hunter demo disks, which were out of sight. I asked if they had the demo. He reached up pointing to a box on the top shelf. He stated that with a preorder you get the demo disk and $5 off. I then asked if you had to preorder to get the demo. He said yes. I then mentioned that I'd read online both Capcom and Gamestop's own customer support said it was not necessary (although it is recommended). He gave an exasperated expression, reached up angrily, and I now have the demo disk. I went ahead and looked around, only saw the Endless Ocean 2 game (not bundle), and left after five minutes. I probably would not have gotten the EO2 game bundle, but only because I'm saving up for MH3 Tri instead. Then again, swimming in peace among the fishes sounds nice (well, except for Hoffa).
I was told i had to pay a dollar to get the disk. After i was told that i left.
Out of all of these WTF stories about gamestop making users preorder to get the demo disc, this is the most WTF because it is so random.

The GS employee might as well have said you can have one if you go buy me a soda.

The discount and the wii cards are to be applied on the day you pick up the game I was told with the wii cards possibly being limited supply.

I asked Capcom about the MH3 demo, too, and they said to report any GameStop requiring a preorder to receive the demo by Store# and address.
