MORTAL KOMBAT!!!! - "Komplete Edition" coming Feb 28th - see post 970

just saw the TRU special on MK, apparently they get a Kitana classic costume...so I'm guessing probably every character has a classic outfit and/or fatality you can buy or unlock. whatever...I still preordered.
 
So to everyone that is planning on using a Madcatz TE - how are you going to configure your buttons? I was thinking along the lines of...

FP = Front Punch
BP = Back Punch
FK = Front Kick
BK = Back Kick
BL = Block

FP BL FK XX
BP BL BK XX

I might change the bottom BL to the tag, but I've heard you can do it by pressing BP+BK. This resembles the default MK layout as close as possible. Although I've heard the default stick layout for the MK stick is:

---FP BL BP
---FK xx BK
tag

While it seems different, it is closer to SF where punches are on top, and kicks are on the bottom. The other thought I had using the Madcatz layout was..

xxx FP BL BP
tag FK BL BK

Any thoughts/input?
 
Only that MK uses High Punch, Low Punch, High Kick, Low Kick, Block, and Run. ;)

I don't have a fight stick anymore, but if I did I'd probably configure the layout to look like this:

BLK HP HK Tag
RUN LP LK
 
Thanks. Was pissed I missed that stuff yesterday. I'll probably pass on the story video for now since there are only a few days to go.

This game is going away from the high/low and using front/back as its description. And there is no run button in this game, only dashes.

Tried to play MK: Armageddon last night on PS2. I SUCK NOW! I forgot my code for my profile, so all of that is lost. Not to mention, I got spoiled by simple button commands to do combos like in MvC. I can already tell I'm going to get own'd for a while until I get back in an MK mindset ;)

and it seems like the human version of the cyborgs have the same moves, but theyre just executed differently. like in the video, human cyrax has the same xray and bombs, but he doesnt eject a bomb from his chest haha, and he uses some sort of smoke bomb before performing the x-ray rather than breaking up into little pieces to perform the x-ray

Holy shit! I never thought I'd see Human Sektor and Cyrax! This game is really going to be completely awesome. Does anyone know if those are going to be alternate costumes to be bought in the Krypt or DLC?
 
So it was confirmed the Klassic costumes are DLC? That sucks, I was really hoping they'd be unlockable in the Krypt. I know I'll be looking for someone to trade codes with now.
 
I've been out of the loop, is there any new info confirming some of those 360 exclusive features? Puzzle Kombat with leaderboards and such would be neat.
 
I wish the krypt would just be full of costumes and characters and what not. I don't want concept art and all that other bullshit, that's what the special edition art book that comes with the Kollector's Edition is for. Keep that stuff off the game disc and instead give us stuff we can play with.

There are no 360 exclusives. Ed Boon and several of the NR staff confirmed on twitter feeds last week. The only exclusive PS3 has is Kratos. From what I understood from an early interview with Boon on this was that there was the intention of having an exclusive character on each system but couldn't find one for 360.

Also the rumor going around is all preorder alt. costumes are unlockable through the krypt. From what I understand Boon said on his twitter feed one day that they will not be dlc then several days later said they would be unlockable. Some people are taking it as they are in the krypt to begin with and preorder codes are just early unlock codes.
 
I actually really like the concept art and videos and stuff that's in the Krypt. I do wish parts of the Krypt were sorted into rows though so you know what you're buying, like a row for costumes, vids, and art. Cooking with Scorpion made me laugh my ass off when I unlocked it while trying to find costumes.

Ditto, but miscellaneous videos could always be unlocked for completing the story mode or other modes instead of actually being in the krypt. Concept art is cool, but I don't want it on my game disc unless it's just there in an extras section. Playing the game to unlock art is just not my idea of a good time. I hated having to save up 3000 onyx koins just to get shit like an early concept design of Sheeva's right tit. That really sucked.
 
I'm glad that the Krypt stuff isn't sorted. It'd take the fun out of it if you knew you were unlocking a costume or character.

I don't mind playing the game to unlock it, I'm very happy it's on the disc. But that's just me personally. I almost always use a Krypt key when playing anyways.

Also, I hope Chess Kombat coes out as DLC.

Who cares? Microsoft makes TONS of deals with publishers to get stuff exclusively/early. One of the few times Sony does it people piss and moan. It's ONE character, it's really not a big deal.

I get what you're saying, and I want a 360 exclusive character myself, but who could it have been? Gears of War characters wouldn't have made sense, may have caused balance issues if they could only use guns, etc. COD? Halo? I'm sure those developers didn't want their characters in the game due to fatalities and Boon didn't want to tone down the game just for one character.

Kratos just makes sense on every level.

They could have easily made it work if they wanted it to and a deal was made. It's not as "ready made" as Kratos but Stryker uses guns and bombs, Baraka is carving people up, Sektor is shooting rockets, and no one questions those.

Complaining about the PS3 getting an exclusive character makes you look like a whiny little kid. It's not like PS3 users are getting an exclusive character from the MK universe. I could understand if they got someone like Rain, but it's Kratos. You're missing out on absolutely nothing.

Here's the thing.. who could Microsoft have used and made them feel legitimately involved? I mean, Kratos is a perfect fit because he's already all about ultraviolence and being the God of War it makes sense that he'd enter the tournament to destroy Shao Kahn who could obviously be viewed as a demigod.

Think about it, who does Microsoft exclusively own? Master Chief is the only name worthy character that they even could have used. And they could have made him work. Laser pistols akin to how Stryker uses his guns, and obviously the plasma sword for melee. I guess Microsoft didn't want Master Chief's blood spilled (and for that matter, was his race ever disclosed?) so they decided to pass on it.
 
they'd never put MC in MK, you really think MS would but xbox's golden child into a situation where his arms and head get ripped from his body? MC isn't a martial artist, he saved the world w/ guns, cortana, instinct, and luck not an air combo and uppercut.

I really don't care if xbox gets an exclusive or not...the only instance that not being able to play Kratos would make a difference is if PS3 players could play 360 players online in 1v1. ...and that'll never happen for this game.

Which will never happen because Microsoft won't loosen up their grip on Xbox Live to allow publishers to talk to networks outside of their own. Which is why PS3 is getting Steam and Xbox Live has a monthly subscription exclusively for online access. It's sad, it really is.

Maybe I should of been more clear. From the article I read it seemed like a deal couldn't be worked out between NRS and Microsoft. I don't know 100% why 360 doesn't have one, I don't work for NR.

Please don't use my post to try and start a PS3 vs 360 war. I was simply trying to let people know what's what.

I think most if not all of the MS deals that are made are just timed exclusivity. Nobody would care if the PS3 got a character a month earlier than the 360.

I agree that they could have made it work if they wanted to, but it may not have been that simple. Maybe NR/Epic discussed it and agreed that it wouldn't make much sense to see Marcus Phoenix doing martial arts. I'm sure Bungie and MS didn't want to see Master Chief being decapitated. I would definitely prefer that those characters be left out over the possibility of them toning down the game like MK vs DC.

I think MS is definitely making a mistake and between the exclusive character, the PS3 having the better D-Pad, and seeing that SFIV sold better on the PS3 (I think?) that it's a decision they're going to regret.
 
Well I was able to pre-order a tournament edition about a month ago on Amazon so I'm pretty stoked. I remember saving my allowance for 2 months to buy the original as a kid, so this should be a really cool experience!

The only fighting game I play on 360 is SC4.

I remember getting 2 on the Game Gear at Kmart. I was told the money had to come from my mom so all I did was give her my money and she paid for it. Odd thing is the change and game were both given to me by the employee.
