Bestbuy.com now has the Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition in stock for both PS3 and Xbox for $149.99 plus $2.99 shipping. You can possibly save the $2.99 shipping by having it shipped to a nearby store, however for me, only 1 of 3 nearby stores were able to do this, so it might be YMMV. This also comes with a free $10 bestbuy gift card, and if you are a gamers club member (free to sign up for), you will also receive a $10 certificate for spending $150 (yes I know this purchase would be .01 or 10.01 short depending if they discount the purchase price by $10 to acount for the gift card).
Have any of you guys played with a madcatz TE stick? I've got one but I don't know how well they fare compared to this one, on the form factor I mean. I haven't had a chance to delve into MK yet, hope to tonight.
I've got a ton of MC TE's so here are my thoughts:

- Noticeable weight difference (6-pounds MC vs ~10-pounds PDP).
- Non-detachable 9.8-ft (MC) vs 6-ft (PDP) detachable USB cable.
- I prefer the PDP form factor due to the angled top panel & button layout being spaced out pretty wide just like in the original MK arcades back in the day (yes, I'm an OG, LOL!). The Madcatz MK replacement panel's run button is a little too close to the front kick button for my taste (I've got big hands) but it's really personal preference.
- Just as I predicted IMO, PDP stick looks nicer & has more features (storage for 2 - games & USB cable) but MC plays better (more precise & quicker response) due to Sanwa vs Happ parts. I replaced the stock steel planel with a Madcatz MK panel. Also installed ToggleMe red billet aluminum bat-top & Sanwa GT-C round restrictor gate on the MC to have a similar American feel to it compared to the traditional Japanese ball-top & square restrictor gate it came with stock.

It's personal preference but I enjoy both equally for the reasons stated. Here are 2 comparison pics:
I didn't know Madcatz sold a Mortal Kombat panel! How much does it cost?
Ya, they just started selling it last month I think. Markman's been previewing it on Shoryuken.com (SRK) for awhile now. :) You can only buy it from Madcatz's site (Gameshark) & here's the cost breakdown if you wanna have American feel to it:

- MC MK panel - $40 - includes steel panel & that artwork in my pics or
- MC MK panel + 6 dark hal (black/grey) Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons combo - $50 (saves $5)

- ToggleMe (5 - 7 different colors available I think) billet aluminum bat-top w/adapter & stiffer Seimitsu LS spring to compensate for heavier bat-top - ~$15 or
- Sanwa (plastic) bat-top w/adapter - $5

- Sanwa GT-C round restrictor gate - $5

Last 3 items are available from Lizard Lick's website. Overall, it's going to be more expensive (MC vs PDP stick) but the MC feels better for the reasons already stated (more precise & quicker response). I've got both sticks (in addition to having homies over) so whenever I get bored, I just switch back & forth between the 2, LOL!

For everyone else, let's not get into a "oh, that's way too expensive for a joystick" pissing contest (for the Madcatz parts) since to each their own, LOL!

Crap there's not a panel for the SE sticks. Oh well, I would need to buy a system selector switch anyway to get my 360 stick to work anyway.

Usually a non-stick person...I owned the SFIV TE stick and never liked using it and got rid of it. However, I'm loving the MK TE stick. This is the first one I've ever bought that actually feels comfortable to use right out of the gate.

Only problem I've had with the MK stick is with my headset, people I was chatting with told me there was a slight feedback noice that was prevalent (even when I switched the mic off). That said, I normally use a Turtle Beach headset, when I switched to a normal XBL headset the problem was reduced.
Damn now I'm all into fightsticks like I'm into CE's. more money to spend. friggin' cag :(
I'm not usually into CE's since most of that stuff doesn't appeal to me (stupid mini-me helmets, bookends, plush dolls, etc.) but something like this (or an r/c car) gets my attention especially since I'm an avid joystick collector & enthusiast.

Ya, I've never seen a replacement panel for an SE. Only thing I've seen close to that is peeps painting the case. Although just like a TE, it's super easy to mod the internal parts. :applause:

I understand where you're coming from since it's a hit or miss due to that Japanese-style ball-top, square restrictor gate & convex buttons (in a Madcatz SF4 TE stick) vs an American-style bat-top, round restrictor gate & concave buttons (like back in the day) most of us here in America's use to. Usually, I prefer a Japanese-style setup (steeper learning curve but much more precise & quicker response) but for MK, I gotta have an American-style setup! Ya, I'm digging this stick as well, no homo.

the buttons look slanted and the run button (i know, no use for mortal kombat 9) seems so close in that mc mk layout panel. do you find it annoying?

You can use that run button (in MK9) to tag your teammate. What do you mean by "the buttons look slanted"? As in, the kick buttons are slightly left of the punch buttons? If so then it's based off the Vewlix-style button layout for Street Fighter. The kick buttons being slightly left of the punch buttons isn't annoying at all. I've played with each stick (no homo, LOL) ~5-hrs & so far the close proximity of the run button isn't annoying but it is kinda close to the front kick button. Once in a while in the heat of battle, I'll get it confused w/the front kick button but it's pretty rare. Mainly due to the fact I've got big hands. Give me a couple more days to play it & ask me again to be on the safe side. Also, instead of your right hand turning slightly clockwise (for the original MK layout), w/this MC MK panel, it's the complete opposite (turning slightly counter-clockwise) but again, it's just personal preference. Checkout these pics to see what I'm talking about:

I've been using both...

I'm best friends with the official MK stick right now, just cuz I have to practice with it/use it at the upcoming Vegas tournament in May.

I really miss the precision/spacing on the combat panel whenever I drop a combo.
Welcome to my world. I'm so envious of everyone who claims their best buy is lienient with their price match policy and coupon policy.

sucks that the computer doesn't automatically take it off. isn't the TE packaged like the killzone 3 heighast edition. how do they even know it's "hardware" if it's in a box like that.

also, are you a silver member? if not, i believe the coupon expired on april 18. I'm not sure how it makes a difference or if they have to scan your bestbuy reward zone number first to verify you are a silver member for the computer to take it off.
One thing I did forget to mention was that when I quoted the price match policy regarding gift cards to the consumer relations rep, he just kept telling me that there is a disclaimer on the website against errors. I was irrated by that and knew it was completely BS but did not want to bother getting into an argument. That disclaimer is there against pricing errors but I do not think it applies to stated policies. I'm an RZ silver member for 3 years and I've never had anyone want to get into like he was waiting to.

On to today....

Tried a 3rd store today and took with me: 1) website showing price match policy regarding gift cards, 2) print out from the best buy forums where the corporate representative states the policy and how it is to be applied, 3) Kmart ad, and 4)link to Kmart blog showing deal.
Luckily at this store, the manager knows me from me just coming in alot and he just looked at everything and said ok to pricematching the $60 gift card/coupon promo for the MK TE edition I bought. I tried pushing it to a 2nd $60 GC for the KE and RB3 but once I saw him hesitate, I said don't sweat it.

For anyone interested, they rang it up as $99.99 for MK TE + $50 GC and then free $10 GC with any MK purchase automatically popped up.

Thanks to CAGers that suggested the idea and to "Enuf" for posting the link to the best buy community forums in this thread: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=292024&page=9 (pg 9, post #178)

Glad I just went to Best Buy on Tuesday and just bought one in-store. The TE I had ordered from BB.com shipped from a city just two hours away from me last Friday, and is still not here

No, it's the Madcatz Chun Li edition TE. Lenticular artwork that moves as you look at different angles, and a blue translucent case. Someone over at SRK(think it was rtdzign) hooked up some arceye led's to those buttons, looked amazing.

Swap out the stock buttons for some comps and an il in there and you'll be home.

I'm at a toss up on whether or not to sell my TE stick. It's going for enough online by itself to pay for the whole damn TE package. I'm already selling my Jade/Ermac codes online for almost $40+. Only skin I care about keeping is Reptile. It's such a nice piece of work, but almost $200 resale is VERY tempting.

yeah the Chun-li TE stick looks pretty cool. The mods that markman did with his stick are amazing. Yellow bezel and yellow joystick top and I think yellow buttons. Very slick. Too lazy to find the link...

that math doesn't add up to me. you're selling the TE by itself? because it won't cover your $150. eBay/Paypal fees plus shipping that monster will eat away at least $50 easy.
Is this a custom stick? So want it!
Just as others have stated, it's not a custom stick. You can get it from their website (20% off promo right now!) or at a local Fry's. It's by far my fav. MC TE stick! You gotta see the crazy translucent blue case & 3D lenticular artwork in person to truly appreciate the stick!

I did that on my old SFAE/SFAC joystick & even though the iL stick's (marginally) better than a Happ Comp stick, it's still nowhere near as nice as a Sanwa JLF or Seimitsu LS-32. I actually prefer the concave Happ Classics over the Comps but even then, it's still nowhere as responsive as a Sanwa OBSF-30 or Seimitsu PS-14-G pushbutton. As others have done, I mainly bought this TE stick for nostalgia but I don't regret my purchase at all. Regardless, it's still a good stick but not as great as a Sanwa/Seitmitsu based stick.

Does this stick work well with other Mortal Kombat games besides MK9? Sorry about the stupid question, I haven't played MK since MK3 and I know the newer MK's play on a 3D plane as opposed to the 2D plane like MK1-3 and 9.

are these very ymmv in store? i went to my local bestbuy last night and only saw the KE. i suppose it's sort of late already and it's been out 3 days and sold out, but i saw 1 ps3 and 3 xbox KE at my bestbuy and 1 Xbox KE at customer service possibly a pre-order on hold.

on another note, the scorpion statue/book end looks very well made compared to the happy meal toys you find in other collector's editions. couldn't see the subzero one since the packaging doesn't have a window to show it, but i don't like sub zero's statue pose i saw on the KE packaging.

It will not work well for the other 3D MK games as they require much more buttons.

It works great for UMK3 (Xbox Live) though. And MK2 on PSN.

Just wanted to chime in and say the tournament editions are still available on the best buy website if anyone's still looking. I ordered mine yesterday and it's shipping via UPS and not the other company. I'm silver though, so i don't know if that makes a difference.

So HAWT!!!

On a side note, I was at the Frisco, Tx location earlier this evening & they only have the KE's (3) in-stock.
Ugh, I wish its wasnt $150 I want this so bad. I cant see spending the money though.
Sell the Ermac, Sub-zero, and scorpion Avatar DLC's to defer the cost. Plus you'll also get $10 in RZ certificates because its $150 and a $10 Gift card; so sort of at $130 - (DLC cards).
Ugh, I wish its wasnt $150 I want this so bad. I cant see spending the money though.
$60 for the game
$90 for the fightstick (better than PDP website $150)

Get this while you can. Plus when you play this game with the fightstick it makes all the difference. Well I love it cause I've dropped lots of quarters in all the MK arcade machines. You can sell the DLC if you want but all in all its steep to put on one game but if your a fan you will want this.
Newegg also has the TEs in stock, plus they have free shipping and no tax. =)
Thanks. I just bought myself one. I will sell the game and the DLC code to cover some of the costs.

If your intent is to lower the cost by selling the DLC, then you should have bought it from one of the places that gave an exclusive dlc, like bestbuy, as that would have given you an extra dlc code to sell.

I sold my exclusive (amazon) for $50 and the ermac for $30 on ebay, so after fees, its a little less then 70, which is just about half the cost. I have the avatar outfits up for $11.99, so hopefully that will sale soon to knock another $10 off my cost. I ended up getting my TE from amazon for $134.99 because of the pre-order price guarantee, so at the end of the day, the stick and MK game will end up a net cost of about $55 for me.

It is a very nice stick, my only complaint is that it is big and heavy....The only other fight stick I had was the Tekken 6 limited edition wireless one from bestbuy when it hit $30.

please let us know if someone dumb enough to buy the avatar outfits which you can buy at the marketplace for 240 ms points does in fact buy it for $11.99.

big and heavy stick is good, won't slide around the table as much and it really feels like having the arcade setup at your home.

How did you ever get the TE from amazon for $135? I had mine preordered from day one and they never dropped it in price so you shouldn't of gotten any preorder price guarantee... and they don't price match so what are you talking about?

Yea i know its a good thing for it to be big and heavy for exactly those reasons....its just i have no idea where I will store it when its not in use. With the tekken 6 stick, since it wasnt nearly as bulky, i just put it on a shelf in my entertainment stand....but theres no way the mk one will fit there lol. It is a really nice stick though, and so I will definitely figure out something as I dont think I will be getting rid of it soon.

Also...people are lazy and don't check things like those avatar codes on xbox live....which is great for people like me who could careless what my avatar looks like, especially for $10. On tuesday, some of the codes were going for as hight as $20. which is what I initially listed mine as, but they didnt sell so i dropped the price to $11.99 as there were completed buy it nows in the $10-12 range. Auctions don't go for as much, some as low as $3 and as high as $10.

It amazes me what peope pay for this type of stuff....my favorite "dlc sale" was when I bought transformers from bestbuy the week the first dlc pack was released and I sold the 1 "exclusive" character for $14.99....pmsl...since you could have bought the dlc pack will all of the so called exclusives for 800 pts ($10).

A couple weeks ago, I noticed the price displayed for MK on amazon listed it $59.99 - $134.99, even though it still showed up as $149.99 and unavaliable on the actual amazon page for the TE. (This was for xbox only). I was doing a chat anyways to ask about release day delivery (which they just gave me free overnight on)....and so I asked about the price and whether or not I would get the pre-order price guarantee on it, and the rep said yes and that as soon as it ships I would receive a refund for the difference, which I did.

I have a flat screen sitting on top of one of those IKEA locker cabinets, and since the inside has a removable shelf that's where all the gaming bulk hides when I need to store it. my friend who does contracting work and are considering building a standup frame for the stick. We'll use wood and the stuff they make those shelves with at any dept store...not for the tv, more like how some arcade games have the controller away from the big screen. like a podium.

fortunately I happen to have a lot of closet space in my house so everything hides nicely away...plastic instruments, turntables, and all.

I have a couple ottoman's (with internal storage) in the media room so I just hide everything in there especially when my little cousins (aka button mashers, LOL!) come over, haha!

Lol nicely done!

I decided to try my luck at my local bestbuy because I really wanted the artbook and bookends. So I was trying to pm the toysrus bogo 50% off, but sadly they denied it because the toysrus they called stated it wasn't included in the bogo :/....however I had called the other store (both are about the same distance, one is just north, and the other is south) earlier just to make sure they were included and was told they were....so the csr called but said even though the second store stated they were part of the bogo, becuase they didn't have it instock, they couldnt pm :(

So then I decided to try for a longshot since I was already there and asked if they would pm the kmart deal spend 120 get $60 "gaming certificate" and much to my surprise they said ok. Unfortunately they only had ps3 copies.....(does anyone know if there are any differences between the xbox and ps3 version in terms of the statue and artbook?).

Also, they let me split the purchases in half (so i grabbed 2 copies of crysis 2 also pmd to kmart for $39.99 each, 1 for me and 1 for ebay :) so I could get the $60 gift card twice.

So my out of pocket costs were about $145 with tax on the first one and $85 on the second one since I used the gift cards from the first purchase. Net cost about $230 + $60 best buy gift card and future $10 rewardzone certificate for spending over $150.

I plan to sell:
- The 2 Mk games @ $50 a piece
- The 4 dlc codes (2 ermac and 2 subzero) hopefully will get about $120
- 1 crysis 2 (or trade in to amazon) @ $40
- Book ends - $60
- Artbook - $30

Total should be about $280-290 after fees/shipping + Ill have $70 towards bestbuy, crysis 2 and last, but not least, the artbook and bookends that inspired the whole thing :)

A big thanks to all the people on ebay who are paying ridiculous amounts for all these dlc codes :)

Yes. The one I (finally) received from them had the dlc. Since they sent it still sealed in the original packing box from manufacturer - I assume that all copies that best buy received have the sub-zero dlc.
