Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe - Gen. Discussion & Info.
im sooo fukkin pumped for this.. i love alternate universe type of storylines...

and mk rules! if this is was sf vs dc, everyone on here would jump for joy with a hard on

it would of been cool though if they would of gone back to 2d for this "crossover" game
Maybe because Street Fighter is a well respected franchise with legitmate games based on a solid fighting engine.

Mortal Kombat was a game that worked in the mid 90s because of the shock factor. Without the shock factor Mortal Kombat can't stand on just its fighting engine.

Well the official website, www.worldscollide.com, has been updated a bit. Nothing new, except that when you click on Sub-Zero's eye it pops up a different screen with 16 question marks. I wonder if that means there will only be 16 playable characters.

I always enjoyed the Kombo (yeah I did it) system in MKII and MKIII. But yes, SF trounces the series.

At first i was completely mad about this, but im trying to see the positives of this game. I just cant think of many DC characters that are actually cool. But i dont read comics and could only name a few off the top of my head. Most of the cool comic characters are with marvel.

Here is some information i gathered from some interviews and videos.

Midway Gamersday Presentation (april 18, 08)
- MK warriors battle DC Heroes for the first time ever.
- Two all-new fighting mechanics - FreeFall Kombat and Klose Kombat.
- Klose Kombat is a brutal up close fighting mechanic, with damaged and torn clothing.
- FreeFall Kombat allows characters to throw people off buildings, through buldings, fighting on their way transitioning to the next area.
- Signature attacks for all MK and DC characters.
- First video game mash-up for either franchise.
- Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, helped with the mortal kombat team to write the story mode.

TRMK Interview (april 18, 08)
- DC writers helped authenticate the DC charaters phrases, reactions.
- Superman has two weaknesses, kryptonite and magic.
- Netherrealm and Outworld are mentioned as places Superman could be vulnerable.
- Characters are over 20,000 polygons.
- No multiple fighting styles.
- No weapons.
- No Puzzle Kombat or Motor Kombat.
- Single player story mode is in, but its not like the konquest mode.

Mortal Kombat Online Interview (april 18, 08)
- Boon is unsure if the story will be cannon, will decide when they start making Mortal Kombat 9.
- Both heroes and villians will be in the game for each brand.
- Fighting Styles are not in the game.
- Fatalities wont be in the game, but finishing moves will.
- Midway wants the game to be rated Teen, but will try to push it to the limit so its 1 step away from Mature rating.
- Game will be playable at E3.

Gamespot Inteview (april 18, 08)
- Two different perspectives in story mode.
# A story takes place in the mortal kombat world with the invasion of DC characters.
# A story takes place in the DC universe and has an invasion of the Mortal Kombat Characters.
- Some cataclysmic event happens, it causes a merger of the worlds, creates a lot of weird circumstances.
- Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, both writers for DC universe, helped craft the whole story and how the DC characters would react to the situation.
- No Stage fatalities.

Thanks for the info, added it to the OP.

shouldve just handed DC to capcom, i wouldnt mind DC vs capcom, only thing is DC doesnt have as many characters that are as known as marvel, shit i can only name a few off the top of my head

Not a huge MK fan, but I am a sucker for some DC characters. Count me in as long as the fighting system is not as stiff as the previous installments. Trailer makes it look like it is smoother, and batman is a badass. Mid-air fighting sounds decent too.

I think people are mad about this games lack of the fatalities. From the video it looks like it does have blood. I normaly would just say "meh" to this and not care but from what I keep reading if it is lacking them that is what made MK what it is you can not take them from the game and have the same game. I don't think DC fits in with MK but will still give it a try.

I wish it would have been snk vs dc or marvel vs dc or something along those lines. I love the old mortal kombat games. I don't much care for the newer 3d ones. I might rent it if that.
I'm down...but no blood + no fatalities is all kinds of fail.
Agreed.

I'd love to see Batman kill Superman!

Heck they got us talking about a weird mix of properties and I sure enjoy my dc and mortal kombat so I'm not complaining.

Damn, I cannot wait to play this. Just give me Hal Jordan and I will more than buy the game willingly.

Keep the updates coming! =)

It sounds like they're fixing their mis-steps with the previous 3D MKs. I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

Mortal Kombat has one of the best continuing storylines of all fighting franchises. It's right up there with Tekken. While I realize that story isn't as important in a fighting game than other genres, it definitely counts for something.

I Agree, which is why Ive been a fan of MK for a very long time.

Assuming that there is only 24 characters, I would like some of the following characters to be in the game:

MK:

- Baraka
- Cyrax
- Frost
- Jade
- Johnny Cage
- Kabal
- Kitana
- Li Mei
- Mileena
- Scorpion (Confirmed)
- Sonya
- Sub-Zero (Confirmed)

DC:

- Aquaman
- Batman (Confirmed)
- Catwoman
- Flash
- Green Arrow
- Green Lantern
- Harley Quinn
- Joker
- Poison Ivy
- Scarecrow
- Superman (Confirmed)
- Wonder Woman

Don't forget Kung Lao. I received an email for Worlds Collide and it was from him. I guess kind of a hint he's in the mix.

Updated OP with the following image: (Noob.com)

bloodde6.jpg

I guess its just to let everyone know that it will indeed contain blood, as thats what the message at the bottom reads.

Another update to the OP comes from VideoGamer.com:

"Every single character is a known DC character, a known MK character. Because they're so iconic, we don't feel like we want to do the huge, massive roster. We just focus in on these core 20 characters".

That comes from Ed Boon...

I'm calling it now:

- Batman
- Catwoman
- Darkseid
- Death Stroke
- Green Lantern
- Lex Luthor
- Martian Manhunter
- Joker
- Superman
- Wonder Woman

Honors: Doomsday, The Flash, Solomon Grundy, Lobo & Catwoman

Although Constantine and V would fit in great if they're using Vertigo comics.
there will be blood.....

So there will be fatalities?
Simple deduction of them wanting this to be "T" for Teen means no unfortunately.

DC will not allow you to rip off Superman's head and beat him with it, so that is why there is no fatalities. The rating has nothing to do with it.

I'm thinking:

MK:
1) Sub-Zero
2) Scorpion
3) Lui Kang
4) Reptile
5) Kano
6) Johnny Cage
7) Kung Lao
8) Sonya Blade
9) Goro BOSS CHARACTER
10) Shao Khan BOSS CHARACTER

DC:
1) Batman
2) Superman
3) Wonder Woman
4) Green Arrow
5) Green Latern
6) Joker
7) Steel
8) Super Girl
9) Doomsday BOSS CHARACTER
10) Darkseid BOSS CHARACTER

The way I figure it, if you go through story as an MK character, you face the DC bosses and vice versus. Or even better, you face a combination of the two.

Goro
Shao Kahn
Baraka
Sub Zero
Scorpion
Liu Kang
Shang Tsung
Raiden
Sonya
Mileena/Kitana

That would be my guess as most popular characters. They need at least 2 females. I really hope Quan Chi is in. But i cant see who i would take out.

No Deathstroke, no buy. Same with Sinestro, and possibly Orion. Red Tornado is also a must. The Question would be godly good.

But yes...

I understand why they removed Fatalities (to preserve the image of DC Comics's characters), but, simply, a Mortal Kombat game is not a Mortal Kombat game without Fatalities.

Its a pity to because if I could do that I'd buy the game in hopes theres a practice mode to where I could do it over and over again
you don't think there would be anyone from the newer 3-d MK's? I just really want Li Mei back, the most playable character in those games
http://kotaku.com/382078/mortal-kombat-vs-street-fighter-kind-of-almost-happened
I think that maybe 2 will be from the newer characters, specially if there will only be 10 characters from MK. I also really want Li Mei in the game or Tanya but I highly doubt we will see them. Who knows though... I just wouldnt be surprised to see Sonya and Kitana back, so to even things out they might try and add another female from the evil side of things.

Tanya was evil the whole time, but they'd prolly put millenia in there instead of her anyway. For some reason I get a feeling that if Li Mei isn't in there, Wonder Woman will get her move set, it's almost a perfect fit for how I'd imagine her in a fighting game. I'm thinking the female characters are gonna get gimped in this game
Jax vs Steel
 Jax vs Green Lantern (John Stewart aka the black one) is more like it. Steel hasn't been the same since Shaq fuck'd his character up in the movie. One character I'd kill for would be Nightwing. Bonus points if he has an Eskrima fighting style since Batman will likely have his gadgets.

This may have had more appeal if it was just a straight DC fighting game. Making it MK doesn't really add value to it, it adds curiousity. Most of us are only paying attention to the DC part. If it was marketed as a DC game from the makers of MK, then they might have a better stew going. Seems they're thinking "Oh Marvel Vs Capcom worked! It'll work for us too!". They should have tried a DC fighting game first. Then if it worked try a VS title later down the line. Like Capcom had hits with X-Men CoTA and Marvel Super Heroes. Then they had a hit with X-Men Vs Street Fighter and so on. Now thats a formula to follow.

I also like how Boon claims they were in talks for a MK vs Street Fighter game. Yeah right. I'm sure the Japanese fighting giant wants to collaborate with them. Some of the comments here are funny.

Well Wonder Woman would end up getting a whole new move set as Ed Boon states that they have all been created from the ground up, so its completely new.

As for Mileena, I also see her being in the game instead of Li Mei, but Im not sure they would ignore any of the other females after MK2. At least Li Mei has been around since MK Deadly Alliance.

If there are only 10 MK characters I see them being the following:

1. Sub-Zero
2. Scorpion
3. Raiden
4. Liu Kang
5. Sonya
6. Jax
7. Kung Lao
8. Kitana
9. Johnny Cage
10. Kano

Sub Boss: Shang Tsung or Goro
Boss: Shao Kahn

Or they could replace Cage, Kano, Kitana, and Jax with Reptile, Noob, Smoke and Mileena

I would think it would look like this, if its 10 per side including 2 enemies/bosses

MK
1) Sub Zero
2) Scorpion
3) Liu Kang
4) Raiden
5) Kano
6) Sonya
7) Cage
8) Kitana
9) Shang Tsung
10) Shao Khan

DC
1) Batman
2) Superman
3) Green Lantern
4) Flash
5) Green Arrow
6) Wonder Woman
7) Supergirl
8) Martian Manhunter
9) Joker
10) Darkseid

I'll take a stab at it...

1. Sub-Zero
2. Scorpion
3. Raiden
4. Shang Tsung
5. Jax
6. Quan Chi
7. Noob Saibot
8. Sonya
9. Baraka
10. Shao Khan (boss)

1. Superman
2. Batman
3. Green Lantern
4. Wonder Woman
5. Steel
6. Sinestro
7. Nightwing
8. Flash
9. Deathstroke
10. Darkseid (boss)

yeah, but they already lied IMO. How can you have a vs game with only 2 known characters and kill off the rest?
 Jax vs Green Lantern (John Stewart aka the black one) is more like it. Steel hasn't been the same since Shaq fuck'd his character up in the movie. I was just talking about the metal arms.

It was so hilarious in class today. This guy mentions how MKvsDC will have fatalities, sounding pretty much like a casual gamer, saying it will be awesome, then someone said there would be no fatalities and his whole face changed

A Street Fighter styled Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter game would be neat. A Mortal Kombat styled Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter game would be a mess.
I would have been content if they slapped some DC characters on X-Men Children of the Atom and called it a day.

I still don't understand this.
Fatalities/Blood is a trademark to Mortal Kombat.

It's like a Mario game without a mushroom.

Well, as long as Sonya and Wonder Woman are in this game.. I'll try it out.
