I always enjoy looking back on broken Sony promises. They've done this since they've entered the gaming business, and I would love it more than anything for someone to call Kutaragi or Kaz out during an interview and see what they say about it.

well you can't really compare what looks like a beginning cutscene/trailer type thing (you know those things that automatically play at the "press start" screen when you dont do anything for about a minute) with actual gameplay..dont most games have a prerendered cutscene type thing when you boot up your game that is just like that?

The problem is, and I'm 99% sure, Sony claimed this was actual in-game footage when it first released the video. Same thing with the Madden trailer and now Killzone 2.

I hate how Sony lies to us to hype their consoles, and they always, ALWAYS underdeliver on their hardware.

I'm so sick of it.

if you havent gotten used to it now....
seriously, im thinking of calling the WAHHHMBULANCE on this one.

Several people threw Motorstorm out as in game footage. Now it just looks kind of, well, unimpressive especially considering what was shown before. Motorstorm is what a lot of Sony fanboys are screaming is the 600 game along with Resistance. For their sake, I hope they're right.

And no wahmbulance is necessary. Game developers shouldn't be able to pull this bullshit. It's false advertising, and they were right for shooting it down in the UK with COD 2.

Please don't jinx Killzone 2. I still have hope they can make the game just like the trailer. :p
I dont know much about renders and all that stuff, but what is keeping them from making it look like that in the game? Isn't it just a question of using up more memory to skin it and light it in that more detailed style? Or is it that even the ps3 graphics cant handle something like that?

Maybe it's the fact that games probably won't look like that for another 10 years or more.

You can call it all you want. The fact is we shouldn't let hardware or software companies get away with outright lying to us about their prospective products just to hype them up.

It's bad for the industry and it's not ethical.

I'm almost 100% sony never claimed that was ingame footage. If you ever thought it was you probably shouldn't ever post here again. In fact just give up on life.

Whether one believes it was in-game footage or not doesn't change the rather obvious intent Sony had to deceive. They may not have "claimed" it was in-game footage, but I'm almost 100% certain they might as well have.

fuck semantics.

EDIT: To be fair, the now-notorious Madden Draft Day 2005 teaser trailer was obviously meant to imply that was how it was going to look on the 360. Sony just does this more than the others. A lot more.

I think Sony is on track to reach the goals that they set from the pre rendered video, motorstorm looks great imo, and I know Motorstorm 2 will be even better.

I played the Motorstorm demo at Target. It was basically just another racing game with poor controls and average graphics. I mean how can anyone get excited about brown dirt? I played for 2 minutes and then got bored. I came back two times after that to try and give it a second chance. Both times the PS3 unit was frozen in the middle of a Motorstorm race.
Its meh at best.

Downloaded the demo today... by far the most visually impressive game I have personally witnessed on the PS3... I have Resistance and the Formula 1 demo to compare it to.

Sony did say both Motorstorm and Killzone were in game footage....they tried to back out of it later though....Its funny how graphics compel people over game play these days. I never played killzone but i heard it was meh at best. So now people see a preety video and think its the greatest game ever. HAlo didnt have the best graphics but it got everything right...

I didn't think it was that great when I played it at a kiosk, but when I downloaded it to play at home (on a 50" TV, mind you) I was pretty impressed. Especially in the first-person view, it's got some amazing graphics.

wow all these morons are coming here bashing the Target Demo which we've stated numerous times on this board that it's FRICKING OUTDATED.

-_- Oh come on. Just cause its sony you have to bitch. Sony never said once that "The following you see is ingame footage!" They just showed video of their upcoming games. And instead of having some text on screen and no footage they put together a show peice. All fucking games do this..

Gears of War... Halo 3... Perfect Dark... Assassins Creed... Man, I can go on and on.

Get over it.

Heh one thing people often overlook is that the Red Steel Trailers Nintendo/Ubisoft showed numerous times were WAY OFF from what the actual graphics looked like and so was the GAMEPLAY for that matter. don't see people bitching about that =p.

Oh that's right, Only Sony and Microsoft are evil... gotcha

Well then why would they use something FRICKING OUTDATED as a marketing tool ?:booty:

That being said, watching the Motostorm target render, I have to wonder what on earth people were smoking to think that that is what the game would look like. These new systems are powerful, but, heavens, think it through, my friends.

Yeah, I thought that as well. The E3 movie looks like some kind of CGI motion picture, not something you could realistically expect to see in a game. I'm interested to know if Sony actually said that it was in-game footage, because frankly it doesn't look anything like in-game footage, what with the cinematic camera angles and whatnot.

I think it would work perfectly as the intro movie you see when the game boots up.
I'll have the retail (japanese) version this week.
Should have full impressions by CAGcast #56.
I'm hoping mine arrives from Play Asia on the following Monday (the 18th). Really looking forward to it.

I haven't really looked into the game that much beyond what I've seen in the demo, but are there other kinds of tracks besides the type in the demo (desert racing in the dirt)?

Motorstorm demo was indeed fun, I just hope they can slap in a good amount of variety above normal dirt tracks. The controls work very similar to excite truck with the motion sensor and work very well for the cars. The Motorcycles in the demo could use a bit of tweaking.

The whole thing takes place in Monument Valley and it's an off-road racing game. Still, there appears to be a decent amount of variety there--mud, dirt, and some man-made surfaces all show in up in the various trailers we've seen thus far. Not sure what you'd expect from a game where you drive dirt bikes and dune buggys.

It's called... marketing. I enjoy videos like this - but seriously some people act like this doesn't happen in every industry.

Here's another pre-render job, courtesy of Quizno's:
Games are going to get to that level.
Here's a screen of an upcoming PC game.....

Oh I want Crysis so badly! :(
Oh I want Crysis so badly! :(
indeed. But to get a PC to play that game smoothly at 1280x720 at least is gonna be damn expensive. At least the game has been delayed but man, I'm looking at spending at least $800 worth of upgrading to get that game to run smoothly
So what kind of CPU and graphics card power does it require?
To get it to look like that, DX10 supported card (Geforce 8xxx series) and probably a pretty damn decent CPU.

Yea Red Steel did it ALL the time with prerendered shit. And they SAID it was real... (The sword fight. Were the guy took the sword and put it up to his neck. like he was playing it)

The motorstorm CG trailer was never said to be ingame...

You guys are just fucking dumb and thought it was.

So, I just got back from Yodobashi Camera and saw display boxes for Motorstorm, as the game comes out tomorrow in Japan.

I guess I just assumed this game had online player or some kind of multiplayer...I assumed wrong.

According to the box, it's one player only!

EDIT: According to IGN, the US release will get online play. Still waiting for that GT4 online play though...
While MotorStorm is set for release in Japan sometime this month, it's February or March release in the US will see the addition of online play. Specific details about how this will work are still under wraps, but we're told there will be ranked play complete with leaderboards, tournaments and support for at least eight players, maybe more depending on how well the net code holds up in the end.

yah, that's why for the delay. It's a real pity because I can see motorstorm shining the most through online play.
Probably the biggest reason why i'm not gonna import it.

Cant wait to hear CheapyD's impressions. Its definetally along the lines of... "You know... im not that impressed. It is fun. But it isnt... great."

Sort of what he says for every game.
