From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).

What kills me is the lack of complete games, although what can you expect from a video rental store? Both HV's I've been to have been stand-alone stores and the discount is on any game for the PS2/Xbox/GC.

Ended up with:

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
Atelier Iris 3
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (complete)

This sale is AWESOME. I can't wait to hit the rest of the valley tomorrow (hopefully)

...and most of these games are up on my tradelist now.
So, you didn't actually have to go inside?
nope they're testing out one of those "futuristic" moviegalleries where you step out of your car and walk to the curb, only to step into a portal where, seconds later, you discover you have bought everything you were thinking of buying and then some! Although your butt severely hurts as an after effect, which, they say will go away after a few days. Sadly, don't think it will be tested anywhere else :hot:

I've never even set foot in a movie gallery or a hollywood video ever in my entire life. I do drive past a hollywood video on my way home from work, though. My shift is done in 25 min, I'll swing by and see if they're doing the deal and post anything I pick up.

Phoenixville, PA

My Hollywood Video trip was a waste. The girl working there said there was no promotions going on. I then asked her about the 3.99 and 25% off sale. She then digs into the trash can and pulls out 2 green banners with the deal on it. She then proceeds to call her manager on her cell to confirm that I had to rent 2 movies to get the deal. She would not budge. I just said the hell with it. What a way to boost rental sales. Makes you wonder why the banners were in the trash.. What a bunch of BS.

If anyone sees an extra Zelda TP Gamecube that they could pick up for me. That would be great. Disc only is fine.

I can confirm this in Illinois, I just called the local hollywood that doesn't have a GC but has a game store inside it, similar to gamecrazy but not actually gamecrazy, and they have a ton of PS2 titles. FYI I work at GC and I know that recently a lot of hollywood's have been sending us a ton of PS2 titles, so they may be low on stock, but still wayyy too good of a deal to not at least check it out.

Disgaea 2, Odin Sphere, Rogues Galaxy, Alterier iris 3, Star Ocean 3, Zelda TP GameCube, 3.99 each

Woot. FTW.

My Hollywood Video (apparently the only one in the area as all others had closed down) had a ton of sought after Gamecube/PS2 games for rent and didn't know when they'd be converted to sale. :whistle2:( Brawl, Pikmin 2, Metroid Prime Echoes, Jurassic Park: OG...

I did manage to pick up Grim Grimoire, Warriors Orochi (X2), Mario Power Tennis, Mario Party 6, and Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker all for $25. I really wish I had more Hollywood Videos around. This sale might even make me drive around to hunt them down.

Very poor selection of games in the $3.99 section. Mostly lame old sports titles for the original XBox/GC. Did manage to scrounge up WWE Smackdown 2008 and Hot Shots Golf Fore! for the PS2.

They had TONS of great games still in the rental section. Any chance of offering to buy some of the ones they had multiple copies of? The girl had no idea if they were adding any games to the cheap section any time soon.

i can confirm this deal is good for Hollywood Video with Gamecrazy attached. WOW, what a great deal! Just got-

ps2
Dragon Quest 8 (BL, no book)
Disgaea 2 (complete)
Grimgrimoire (no book)
Atelier Iris 3 (complete)
Jurassic Park OG (no book):hot:
Rez (disc only) :hot:

GC
Mario party 6 (complete)

Grabbed Guitar:Aerosmith at HV. Still a lot of Mercenaries 2 and Star Wars Force Unleashed at the Streamwood, IL store.

I went to 4 nearby Movie Galleries today. Between the 4 stores they had just about every 1st party GameCube game to rent but I only actually found 2 good GameCube games to buy, one store even had Metal Gear Twin Snakes to rent. I politely asked about buying GameCube games for rent or if they would be selling all of them soon and I was told at at least 2 of the stores that they usually don't sell them and send them back to a distrabution center making it clear that somebody higher up decides when and what to sell and that I wasen't going to get somebody that can decide yeah what the hell we need to get rid of them that would have the stroke to go grab something like Pikmin 2 or Zelda: TP and sell it if it's still a rental. The last store even told me that they just sent back about 100 GameCube games and they still had some good stuff left (including MG:TS). All 4 stores had 1 Zelda: TP for the Cube (to rent) I'm envious of those finding it for sale as it seems as if it'll never be out for sale with the dreck around here. I noticed that all of these stores had Aqua Man for sale on the Xbox and a good chunk of sports games in the small asortment of used last gen games for sale. I'm also surprised about some of the newer games a few people found for 3.99 that are only a few months old, these stores must have gotten way too many copies to rent of them :D

Well, my closest Hollywood Video has a Gamecrazy on the side, so it'll be ineresting to see if they are doing this. Guess I'll check tomorrow.

i went to two today and they both were participating, had to scan something though. i confirmed it in post #60

Picked up Pikmin 2 w/o instructions and FF12 at my local Movie Gallery. I didnt have any problems checking out and they had a sign above the games for sale stating the $3.99 sale.
Grabbed Guitar:Aerosmith at HV. Still a lot of Mercenaries 2 and Star Wars Force Unleashed at the Streamwood, IL store.
Damn. I live like 2 blocks from there.

My local Hollywood Video had no signage, but was participating in the sale. I got:

PS2:

Yakuza
Burnout Dominator
Resident Evil Outbreak
God of War 2 (2-Disc Set)

XBOX:
Destroy All Humans 2
Dreamfall
Family Guy

GameCube:
WarioWare Mega Party Games

I saw a Mario Party 6 but it was labeled $29.99 and the sales associated stated that it was only for games $19.99 or less. I also checked out a Movie Gallery in the area and they had absolutely nothing for used games. All games except for Burnout were complete with manual and original cover insert!

Pretty good scores for me. One Movie Gallery, one Hollywood Video:

GAmecube:
Zelda TP x3
Zelda 4 Swords
Killer 7
Kirby Air Ride
Harvest Moon Magical Melody
Pikmin
DDR Mario Mix
Mario Party 6

PS2:
.Hack Mutation
.Hack Quarantine
Valkyrie Profile 2 Silmeria
Wild Arms: Alter Code F
Rogue Galaxy x2
Final FAntasy XI Treasures of Aht Urhgan
God of War
Kindgom Hearts
Lego Indiana Jones x2
Okami
Star Wars the Force Unleashed

XBox
KOTOR II x2

Very few were complete. Most were printed covers, and just about all have annoying stickers on them. Gonna flip a few, play a few and use the rest for Christmas gifts.

Got two more to hit tomorrow hopefully. Good luck everybody.

VERY nice haul for me...going back later to grab some (so i can pay off my damn speeding ticket...grrr....)

God of War (ps2) x2
legend of zelda: twilight princess
mario party 6
street fighter alpha anthology (ps2)
mario kart dd (Gcn)
Tales of Symphonia (GC)
Warriors Orochi (Ps2)

My haul:

Gamecube
Donkey Konga 2 (complete)

I'll double check tomorrow ... so does this mean that the PS2/Xbox/GC games in the Gamecrazy are for that price, or were they physically in the Hollywood Video store? In either case a couple of stores I thought were off-limits might be worth a shot.

I had three Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the PS2 in my hand when the cash register said they couldn't sell them to me, as someone stole the discs inside.

I'm absolutely loving this deal. I've flipped about $50 worth in purchases to at least $150 in GS credit. Valkyria Chronicles here I come!

I'll have converted $32 to roughly $201.60 come tomorrow morning. It will be my first flip, and an epic one.

Well, crap, wish I had paid attention to this earlier. The "Movie Gallery / Game Zone" title made me ignore it as I have never seen any of those around. Now Hollywood Video is a different matter - got one of those 1/2 mile away from home! Damn, guess I'm going there in the AM.

I'm assuming that this only takes place in the Hollywood Video store and not in the GameCrazy itself? Wishful thinking here.

My thoughts exactly. I have a Hollywood Video 1 block away from me. It's practically across the street. :)
I'm gonna try to hit up a few Hollywoods today, but I have a bad feeling that they won't have any idea what I'm talking about.
i would HIGHLY suggest you make a phone call first! ;-D

ye so anyone who experiences an employee saying "you have to rent 2 movies and THEN you can buy up to 5 lastgen games for $3.99 each" is bs'in you. Girl tried to do that to me yesterday and I almost went through with it til i saw a big sign that said "ALL GC, XBOX, AND PS2 GAMES ONLY $3.99! NO RENTALS REQUIRED!" The ONLY promo that req'd rentals was for the $3.99 DVDs deal..where you do have to rent 2 movies in order to qualify for that specific deal.

Will be hitting up 3 hollywood videos/gamecrazy's/moviegallery's today! This deal is TOOO AWESOME!
i would HIGHLY suggest you make a phone call first! ;-D
I wouldn't, I'm usually not paranoid about calling but I don't want to alert employees to this before I'm there. I would suggest finding out if they know about it before you take a huge stack of games up there.

well the employees in my area don't care...and most of them don't even know of the rare games hidden deep within the shelves. so *crosses fingers* hopefully that remains true today for me

A guy at GameCrazy said he didn't know anything about it. For the Hollywood Videos that have a GameCrazy, is the sale on the HV side or the GC side or both?
A guy at GameCrazy said he didn't know anything about it. For the Hollywood Videos that have a GameCrazy, is the sale on the HV side or the GC side or both?
Yeah, this is pretty important. I'd like to know as well.

^^ I'm pretty sure it's on the HV side. I asked one HV with a GC attached if they sell used games and they said that they all go to the GC. So I guess YMMV.

If your hollywood has a gamecrazy there's no chance for this deal, because they send all their ex-rentals over to gamecrazy and they get inventoried and priced through there. This is a Hollywood only deal.

and movie gallery too! i know for sure cuz went to mine yesterday and confirmed this! well..but i guess it's still good to call REGARDLESS...save gas :)

$39.90 cash into $236.25 credit

Force Unleashed - 18.75 before bonuses
Madden 09 - 20.00 before bonuses
Mercenaries 2 - 18.75 before bonuses
^^ All for PS2
Zelda Twilight Princess - 14.50 before bonuses
^^ GameCube

3.99 each

Add in a filler title, or grab something like Guitar Hero Aerosmith for PS2 if they have it. (10 or so before bonuses) as a fifth for the 30% bonus. You'll get about $106 for the five then. After that, do same flip to multiple stores. Profit.

I just called my Hollywood Video and they said that the offers was through the Game Crazy. I'm not entirely convinced, but I'm desperately hoping it's true. I'm driving there at lunch.

I've seen conflicting answers on this: Do the games just ring up $3.99, or does the cashier have to type in a code?

What I'm getting at is if it is automatic, the employee might not know and calling doesn't matter.

Coupon code: COPPG399 (taken from page 3 of this thread).
Wowzers! Where did you take that stuff?
Nascar 2009 $10 trade at GCrazy
Disgaea 2 $10 trade at GCrazy
MX vs ATV Untamed $5 trade at GCrazy

Need to check out gamestop's prices cuz, did ya know that gamecrazy matches trade prices even without ads?

It's not automatic, they either have to type in a code or scan a barcode.

I don't remember exactly what the code was at Hollywood video but this was not it. Maybe they will work at both stores but you are better off to get the employee to call a manager or another store that knows about the promo.

Ah, I didn't realize that Hollywood would have a different code. Thanks for the info.

This is what mine says, from Hollywood Video with no Game Crazy:

Description Qty/Days Date Due Amount
PV-CUBE-MARIO PARTY 6 1 @ 3.99 3.99E
PV XBOS, PS2, CUBE $3.99 1 N/A 0.00Q
Total 3.99

No coupon code on the receipt I was given, but I do remember the guy looking in a binder maybe to either find a code or scan a barcode.
