From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).

12.50 at Gamestop according to the GS thread.

At the aforementioned "cleaned out" store, I found a bunch of goodies today.

:gc: Animal Crossing
:gc: Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
:gc: Mario Tennis
:gc: Mario Superstar Baseball
:gc: Mario Super Strikers
:gc: Pikmin (complete)
:gc: Mario Party 6
:gc: Fire Emblem
:gc: Tales Of Symphonia
:ps2: NCAA Football 2009
:xbox: Knights Of The Old Republic II

I swear, for all of the sports that Mario participates in, he's still a fat plumber.

Great haul. My local HV only has some crappy games left.
.......... he's still a fat plumber because he eats a lots mushrooms

You guys seem to find a lot more per store than I do. Nonetheless I managed to scrounge up a Futurama, a Mario Power Tennis (finally - this is my third attempt and this time they actually found the disc ), Mario Strikers, Fire Emblem, Mega Man X Collection, Mario Superstar Baseball x 2, Pokemon XD, Star Wars KOTOR II, LSW II (ps2), and Star Wars Battlefront II (Xbox). But note that this was across THREE different HWV stores tonight.

(I also passed on some "lesser" stuff like Mario Golf, Animal Crossing, and a second copy of Strikers though I should have gotten that since it's gone up at GS).

I traded in about half of them (since the third HWV store with the best stuff I went to last). Hopefully all the GS trade-in values hold over the weekend (or perhaps go up even more ;)) since I probably can't trade them till next week.

I am critically low on Gamecrazy credit and, in fact, used the last of my portable credit (I still have some on a store account at my main GC). I had to use actual real money tonight for the first time - it was painful to do so even though it was just $6 from a Vanilla Visa I got at Blockbuter. I actually passed on some other games at my last stop, though, because I didn't want to spend any more real money than that.

On the other hand, my GS credit is through the roof. I've easily made up for the 160GB PS3 bundle I bought with it a few weeks ago since then just from these HWV games. And GS seems to be getting something out of it too as I think the only reason a lot of these games have gone up in TIV recently is that they are selling them in droves as (relatively) cheap holiday gifts. And of course HWV is happy because they get an influx of sales and clear crap off their shelves and out of their warehouses. So, it's good times all around .

This sale is the crack-cocaine of flipping deals; I've said I'm done about a million times, but then you happen to catch the faint reddish-pink light of a nearby movie gallery, and all of those desires come flooding back!

From an MG I last hit about a month ago:

GC:
Lego SW

PS2:
Pirates of the Caribbean:AWE
Silent Hill 2
Spyro: A Hero's Tail
SW: BF

Xbox:
Baldur's Gate: DA II
COD 3 x3
Fable
SW: KOTOR
SW: BF

In between this and cashing out a little BBV credit I've got another huge 3 stacks to get to GS before the promo ends (again) next week; time to call the friends...

Question for you guys who do trade-ins to HV/GC: What's the best trade-in from GS to HV/GC? I ask because I'd like to scoop up a few games without using cash and I have a decent amount of credit at Gamestop. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I just had a pretty good experience at a HWV. The manager was there and I go through their used games and I find like 6 or 7 decent ones.... mario party 7, path of radiance, etc...

I bring them up to the counter and he says "You know all of our xbox and gc rentals are for sale?" I asked about the ps2 games as well and he said no. I then ask why and he says they're not getting anymore and they're just making room for the next gen stuff. So ok I go check out their rentals and found another 6 or 7 more. Unfortunately, he couldn't find the discs for some of them and asked if I just wanted to look through the discs they had. I was like SURE!! There weren't many there though. They were either rented out or they didn't do inventory yet. Still sweet and got 12 games in total out of 20 or so I wanted. Oh well.

NOOOO! I was looking around trying to find my baby, and here she was, sitting all alone on forgotten page 3 of the threads...can't let that happen!

Anyone else have luck with new pulls or shipments at a MG this week?

Went to the one close to me had some good stuff, they said in the beginning of the week call them and they'll let me know if they get in more stuff. They showed me an area in the store near a bunch of old dvds where they've starting putting some of these games. Usually they are in a bin in the front

So I grabbed GTA SA for xbox, Tales of Symphonia, Destroy all Humans 2 (ps2), and SW Battlefront II x2(xbox)

Went to a HWV that had nothing when I was there a month ago.

Was passing by again today and found:

:gc:
Mario Party 7
Mario Baseball
Kirby Air Ride(there were 3 copies, I only got 1)

:pS2:

nfs:proStreet
Spartan Total Warrior

I found another HWV store (in Medford, MA) today and managed to score 22 games. The clerk at the counter was telling me that someone came in recently and loaded up a couple big cardboard boxes, spending a couple hundred bucks on games. I can't help but think it was another CAGer! lol

Got the games home....one disc was broken in half :bomb:, one was scratched to fucking hell, three are really beat up and questionable as to whether I'll be able to flip them to GS without a refurb fee, two were IMMACULATE, and all the rest are easily passable to GS. All in all, not a bad run. Got some really interesting titles like Grandia III, Suikoden IV, Silent Hill 4, SW: KOTOR II, Nascar '08, and more.

Soooo...who hit the motherload at this store before me? ;)

Oh, and neither of like the only two HWV's we have around have a working disc buffer machine  so the 8 or so games that I bought that need to be refurbed before I can trade them in are just sitting around

Just noticed this thread yesterday... there aren't any of these places in town, but I saw that there were a couple Movie Gallery stores in some nearby cities, so I decided to check them out. Both stores had pretty much been picked through, though I did manage to find a few games.

At the 1st MG:
:ps2: Ace Combat Zero (No manual)
:ps2: Yakuza (Complete... seemingly unplayed)
:xbox: Mortal Kombat Deception: Scorpion Edition (No manual or bonus disc)
:gc: Super Mario Sunshine (Generic case, disc only)

At the 2nd MG:
:ps2: Fullmetal Alchemist 2 (Complete with bonus DVD)
:ps2: Mega Man Anniversary Collection (No manual)
:ps2: Mister Mosquito (No manual)
:ps2: Sly 2 (Complete)

I was hoping to find more Gamecube games, but I'm fairly pleased with what I did manage to get.

Picked up two Christmas presents for myself at one of the HW's I don't normally visit, both complete with original covers etc. Don't shoot the messenger, HW put them out, I just bought them:

:ps2:

Suikoden 3
Ico

:whee:

No reason for any gunplay here...those 2 titles have been fairly available since this sale started.

Then the following from my morning purchases shouldn't be that big of a deal..

:ps2:
Zone Of The Enders
Zone Of The Enders II
SMT: Noctourne

As well as some filler (Dual Hearts, etc). Not bad for a morning's haul. They're still getting shipments from other stores.

they're still releasing good games. picked up

Futurama ps2 complete
ico ps2 complete
the legend of zelda twilight princess gc complete
test drive eve of destruction ps2 disc only
godzilla ps2 disc only
mario power tennis gc disc only
resident evil zero gc disc only
tales of symphonia gc disc only
wakeboard unleashed ps2 disc only

I've not been able to find any GC games this whole time but I did pick up today:

:xbox:
Hunter the Reckoning (complete box)
Dead or Alive 3 (Platinum Hits complete box)
Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes (complete box)
Star Wars Republic Commando (normal cover, HWV back)
Conker Live and Reloaded (normal cover, HWV back)
Far Cry Instincts Evolution (normal cover, HWV back)

:ps2:
Colosseum: Road to Freedom (normal cover, HWV back)

mine converted about 30-40 games today but they werent for sale yet. will be ready first thing in the morning though. cant wait!

Went to Movie Gallery and saw a fair amount of new games, but nothing that great picked up a seemingly new Unreal Tournemnt PS2 and a Guilty Gear X2 for the PS2 with no manual.

My local movie gallery hasn't sold any of thier games, but would they if I asked?
I asked at my local Movie Stars if the had anything for sale and told me all GC/XB on the RENTAL shelf were able to be purchased for $10.
the PS2 games were on sale as well but, only if they haven't been rented in 6 months or if there were multiple copies..

Damn. I should have gone to my Hollywood Video sooner. I have to admit, a lot of them are in pretty bad condition (case/manual wise anyway), but at $4 I can't complain. Need to look into some other Hollywood Videos in my neighborhood.

Here's a quick question. I noticed the Hollywood Video I went to had new games for sale and even took pre-orders on upcoming games. My question is if they're treated as a pseudo GameCrazy even though they had none of the GameCrazy stuff. If yes, I found a new B&M store to reserve games at.

I'm making a little road trip tomorrow to pick up a little holiday alcohol; methinks I'll have to 'accidentally' route us past a few MG's tomorrow on the way to the liqour store (without telling the GF until we are approaching said MG's, of course). ;)

I went to an out of the way hollywood and found:
Fire emblem
Super mario strikers
Mario Power Tennis
Zelda Twilight Princess
Mario Golf

Went up to the counter with my haul and the girl working there goes the sale is only for games under 9.99, So of course I told her that it was for any game for the 3 systems. She replied with it's the managers discretion and we don't have to honor it. No wonder they have so much good crap left. Has this happened to anyone else?

Early on in the sale - like a month ago we were getting lots of this (in particular because they'd mix it up with the rent 2 movies get any movie $12.99 and under for $3.99 promo which was happening at the same time). But every store I've been to the last few weeks has signage up for the $3.99 sale and honors it no problem.

Yeah, they are HWV stores with a "Gamezone" in them. They supposedly take preorders and have a pretty decent selection of new games. I don't think anyone here is too sure how reliable they are on the preorders though they'd have to be better than Blockbuster about it (they never got in the last 3 or 4 games I preordered).

Well, my local store may very well have converted more stuff, but I can't even get out of my driveway right now. Hopefully that will slow everyone else down as well (though it didn't seem to with our earlier storm). This is one of the very rare times I wish I still had a 4WD vehicle. So, maybe, with some luck, I'll be able to check them out Weds or so...

For some reason I'm still up at 4am and going through all of my reciepts from the last 1 1/2 months. Here's some quick stats from my travels over the last few weeks:

MG's hit: somewhere between 40-50 (I need to go through Google Maps later to get an exact number)

HWV's hit: 1. That's right, one store, and it had a GC attatched, so no go on the sale.

States travelled to: 3

Games bought: I've been pretty meticulous about keeping reciepts, and from what I've got in front of me, it looks like 204.

And here's the real kicker that got me looking back through all of this stuff...

MG's that had a reciept printer with technology newer than 1980's dot matrix: ZERO....wtf?

I guess the real questions being posed are:

-Do all HWV's rely on this ancient technology for their printing needs?
-Has not one MG had a printer malfunction in the last 20 years, leading them to upgrade?

And, most importantly:
-Who even cares? (why am I typing all of this?)

Ahh, sweet delerium.... I guess I just can't sleep with all the visions of delicious liqour stores, BBV's and MG's I'm gonna hit on my road trip tomorrow!

Alright, keep moving...nothing to see here.

Actually, all Hollywood's and Mg's (or at least almost all, as I'm sure there's an exception), still rock the dot matrix, and every single employee at every single hollywood-gallery hates his life because of it. Their computers are also pre-stonage as well, though some did get monitor upgrades a few years ago if their old slug-boxes crapped out. Its really pretty funny; hollywood could spend maybe 100,000 dollars and upgrade all of those garbage d.m.'s to garbage inkjets, and boost storewide morale by immeasurable quantities, but they don't.

I have always thought, and still whole-heartedly believe, Hollywood video HATES money.

I'm planning on going to my local HWV to see what they have. I was wondering if there is any problem trading games in to GS that have HWV cases or some generic cases?

No.

204 games?!?!? DAMN!!! So without tax, you spent over $800. What kind of credit do you have at GS? If all your games averaged $9 after bonuses, that's over $1800 in credit. That's insane! 3 states? Good job. I've done 2.

That's hilarious. I think the same thing every time the receipt is printing. I thought my office was the last to still use those printers, and that was 10 years ago!

Picked up more from a previously cleaned out HWV. Did okay. 11 games worth. Pikmin 2 was among them and some other $7+ games. They had a Futurama but surface of the disc was torn off. Didn't think it'd play so I didn't take it (aka GS take it). Tried buying their rentals since they said they'll convert them eventually but they wouldn't let me. They had another Pikmin 2 so guess I'll be going back.
I got a Tales of Symphonia, but I only got one disc. Should I return it because Gamestop won't accept it?
They shouldn't have sold you that one if it only had one disc. Take it back to where you bought it, and you might be lucky to get regular price refund(which i believe $14.99) not the $3.99 sale price. It happened to me once.:)

I just got back from HWV and they had Little Big Planet 49.99.Unfortunately,the manager told me that 25% off next gen ended a few weeks ago.I was still able to walk out of the store with God of War 2.

Well then let's hope that it is a different person. The chances of that happening will increase, however the receipt does say $3.99. Maybe the person will be incredibly unobservant. ;)

Hit the motherload today when I ventured out to my first real HWV, located deep in the depths of the 'urban jungle'. They of course had no signage up for the sale, so when I saw the games they had, naturally I assumed they weren't honoring the deal.

Still, Futurama was marked $7.99 (still worthwhile to get at that price) so I brought it up front, and asked about the sale. She said she didn't really know of any current 'sale', but when I said specifically last gen stuff she matter of factly said "oh yeah, they're $3.99".

I immediately did a 180, ran back to the games, and grabbed 13 more. "Hey are you gonna get all of those cheap games?". "Nope" I replied. "Just the good ones", paid, wished everyone a happy holiday, then left with the biggest smile.

PS2:
Futurama

XBOX:
SW: KOTOR II
SW: BF II

'Cube:
Mario Golf
Mario Kart Double Dash
Mario Tennis
Harvest Moon: MM
Animal Crossing
Pikmin 2
Fire Emblem
LOZ: 4 swords
LOZ: WW
Luigi's Mansion

It looks like this deal is definitely still alive and kicking!!!:bouncy:

I picked up two copies of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance today but someone swiped the Pikimin 2 I had been eyeing out from under me!! I plan on keeping one Fire Emblem and trading the other one into GameStop or should I sell it on Ebay? What do you guys think?
Like I said, it's going on indefinitely.

Or atleast until Hollywood video is all out of last-gen games.

I went to my local HWV the other day and checked out the games and was looking to grab Zelda Twilight Princess, but it was going for 39.99...and there was no mention of a sale any where, how do you get the games for 4? do you have some coupon or something?
I went to my local HWV the other day and checked out the games and was looking to grab Zelda Twilight Princess, but it was going for 39.99...and there was no mention of a sale any where, how do you get the games for 4? do you have some coupon or something?
When you buy the last-gen games, they have to scan a bar-code "coupon" they have at the register that makes the games 3.99. It will work on all the games, but I've found some stores that only do $14.99 or less games (They claim "manager discretion" or some such.) Others have said they called corporate to force the local store to honor the sale for all games, but I've never tried.

FWIW, I was in two HWVs that had no signage up about the 3.99 sale but it was still going on. So don't be afraid to ask.

^ oh shoot..well it's only down the street so i'll make a stop tomorrow. thanks man!

edit: and every thing was in full stock as usual, which is why i figured no sale cus i thought people would have been buying it up by now...but then again i live in a small town in lower-Maine (Berwick) and the store is never really busy.

Seriously man, even if there's no signage, it definitely doesn't hurt to ask. Look at my post from earlier....I pulled all of that good stuff from a HWV that had no signs whatsoever.

I thought there's no way they were honoring the deal since they had so much good stuff, but it was kind of in a rough neighborhood, so maybe the locals there don't get into Mario/Zelda GC type games...

Lesson learned: just ask; it costs nothing, but could make you a lot...

Yeah, but I figured there was no rush, this HWV near me seriously NEVER sells anything lol. They just rent movies...There's usually only 1-3 other people in there every time I go (usually new release tuesday) and I've never seen a game go off a shelf or new releases rented out. So I figured I'd just go back anyways and every thing will be there...I'll post again later when I check it out again and ask about it.
Like I said, it's going on indefinitely.

Tell that to the one HWV by me, which has already STOPPED honoring the sale.

Mind you, I'm not really looking for anything for my own collection or to flip right now, so it doesn't even matter to me. But if this was corporate's way of getting rid of all their last gen stuff, then this store will be a gold mine once they're FORCED to reinstate the sale.
