Name a Crappy Movie that Everyone Loves
are you telling me this is common knowledge? if so, it's just a testament as to how fucking popular this shitty movie is.
I don't see how the movie could possibly be funny if you didn't know that. It's even better when you're watching it in a theater located about 60 miles from the town where they shot it.

It's best if you know people who were basically Napoleon and Kip growing up. They get depressed and you get to laugh at them.
that reminds me, the actor that plays Napoleon Dynamite is a MORMON.
What the fuck are you talking about!!?? Nobody knows that shit. And the movie has nothing to do with him being mormon... seriously, what the fuck are you talking about?

Even better when said people have certain religious and social links to Idaho.
Sin city. I still don't see why people raved about this movie it wasn't anything special
Wrong. Absolutely wrong.
I'll catch crap for this from a lot of people on this board, but here goes:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Bubba Ho-Tep
Both good films, but Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is perfection and better than Bubba Ho-Tep, which was good and surely a cult classic. Really love Bruce Campbell's acting in it.
Oh crap - I forgot the Number One of All Time Overrated Movie:

The Princess Bride

God damn that movie blows
Another poor choice. It's simply a classic.

Someone said Boondock Saints, and while I don't think it's the best movie ever like some, it's simply a really fun good action movie. Nothing wrong with that.

And some of you, well, some of you...umm...how to put this nicely, well maybe being blunt will do, but some of you have absolutely no taste in movies what so ever if these are your true choices.

You know, I think some of you are just posting some of your choices to get a ruse out of people.

I will agree with Brak on Aliens vs Predator. That movie desreved to be a straight to DVD movie and then maybe it would have been acceptable. no wait, who am I kidding that movie never even deserved to have been made.

Oh and Napoleon Dynamite 150% deserves to be on this list. It absolutely sucks. Ugghh...I could go on and on on this film.
What the fuck are you talking about!!?? Nobody knows that shit. And the movie has nothing to do with him being mormon... seriously, what the fuck are you talking about?
Then you also shall be awarded the :dunce:, I hope you enjoy it.

Allright then, explain it, cause I think you're full of shit.
This is fun watching this conversation go back and forth.
Heh, that's fair.

I want to see a response, but I want to go to bed too... hmmm.
I don't think I've actually contributed to this thread ... I hate Braveheart, Gladiator, and Shrek.
No I don't think you have. You'd be astonished by some of what has been posted. Sin City.. bfff....how can you say on such a great movie. Easily the best film of the year. Anyhow, haven't seen Braveheart, need to watch Gladiator in its entirety, and Shrek one stunk but the second made up for it.
I don't think I've actually contributed to this thread ... I hate Braveheart, Gladiator, and Shrek.
Wow do I agree with you on Shrek. The others were overrated, but Shrek sucked.

Yeah, some great movies have been listed.

I never watched the second one, I figured it would just be more of the same.

Titanic sucked.

As per Napoleon Dynamite, I did enjoy the movie until it became a 'fad' and every fucking kid runs around in a 'Vote for Pedro' or unicorn short screaming 'Idiot!'. Ugh. Nightmare before Chirstmas is the same way as that fucking sucked.

damn you were doing so good too.

princess bride, because of what i had to endure from the glee and acapella club gets my

WORST MOVIE EVA

award

congrats Princess Bride - you beat Boiling Point - which I thought I would have engraved on my ash urn as "worst film eva"

Here's the thing, Zion. There are a few references to mormon culture in the movie, but to say that you can't see how the movie could be funny without knowing those references.... well, that's borderline retarded.

There is a fair amount of fake swearing, but that makes fun of mormons just as much as almost any predominantly religious area. People outside of Idaho say "gosh", "flippin'", and "heck. It's not funny because it's mormon and you know the reference. It's funny because it's fake swearing.

The only other mormon references that I noticed were the Rick's College t-shirt.... not funny... literally, the ONLY joke that is kind of funny, and you need to understand the Mormon reference for, is when the principal is upset with Pedro and mentions Pedro might be from Juarez. That is literally, the ONLY joke, that you is funny because of it's mormon reference. All the rest are funny for non-mormon specific reasons.

Do I still get a dunce cap fucker?

Can we get over this film already, please? Let's let bygones be bygones and admonish that this movie simply sucks and deserves to be burned in the 7th level of hell:D Hell, my 5 year old cousin could make a better movie that actually has some plot to it. o.k., I'm going to chill because I really hate that movie and don't want to talk about it.

According to IMDB people like Lord of War and it was the worst movie released this year by far. Yeah black people can take apart a jet in 24 hours with their bare hands and haul away all the pieces. Because they use all parts of an animal. I get it. That's fucking gay and wrong. Also if you give a history wrap up at the end of a movie and say "The following 5 countries are fucking gay: America, France, England..." it kind of makes your movie look like a shitty political statement. Which it was.

Well, for my contribution (besides the Kill Bill buying recommendations), I think I'll quote my post in the Last Movie You Saw thread from a few weeks ago:
Sin City

Wow, how do I put it into words? A big huge steaming pile of awful shitty trash. To put it lightly. Sure, it looks great when you start it up, but the neatness of its style wears off fairly quickly, and all that's left is a dumb, stupid, idiotic, mindless, pointless, boring, stupid piece of shit. It seems strangely appropriate, though; I watch Apocalypse Now last night, which is in a toss up with 2001 for the best movie ever, and then I watch this next, which is getting put in a toss up with Goldmember for the worst movie I've ever seen. Irony's a bitch.
DITTO Pure Crap .

clerks

i watched it about a month ago for the first time since being in film school (ironically the very school from which smith dropped out 12 years ago) and also since seeing smith give one of his famous q&a talks here in vancouver back in july. i've seen the movie several times before that and loved it.

here's what sucks about it:

the acting: pretty much every actor in the film was terrible. the lines are delievered so stiff it sounds like a middle school play rehearsal. there were no beats given during or between lines. it's pretty sad when jay mewes is your best actor.

the cinematography: the camera just sits there. no pans, no tilts, no dollies. nothing but subpar setups. it's boring to watch. it's all about dialogue, which wouldn't be a bad thing if the actors could convincingly deliever it.

the editing: it's bad enough the cinematography is elementary, but the editing could have saved it...could have. shots last too long. how long can you sit on a medium 2 shot before you cut to another angle? not as long as they do. a couple of over the shoulder and reverse angles would be nice, but i'm assuming most of the movie was done in one take, leaving the editor with no choices. it's a shame...it could have been a better movie.

it's not that i hate smith, he's good with dialogue, and believe me, he's a great story teller. just see him give one of his q&a's and you'll laugh your ass off. he readily admits he doesn't know how to make shots interesting, usually just setting up the camera and putting the actors in front of it. i'd love this movie again if it just had decent actors, some camera movement, and good editing to tie it all together.

The first Scary Movie (people ruined it for me to the point when I finally saw it it wasn't funny at alll)
Grease/The Sound of Music - These two are tied for my most hated movies of all time
The Matrix Revolutions - Horrible ending to a story with great potential
Castaway - Not a particularly BAD movie, I just lost interest after the first time I saw it
Star Wars Episode I - Other than the Darth Maul fight at the end, I was falling asleep in my seat at the movie theater when i saw this.
Star Wars Revenge of the Sith
i was heavily disappointed too, but i don't agree it belongs here. see, i have a theory pretty much everyone was disappointed, but is too much of a fanboy to admit they didn't like it. best of the prequels, but that's not saying much. bad acting, anakin's journey to the darkside was not convincing (it happened because it had to happen for continuity), and mace windu went out like a bitch. i dunno...a whole thread could be started about this movie and what's wrong with it (probably has, but i'm not gonna look)

70's horror movies. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Amittyville Horror, Omen, Exorcist. Not saying that modern horror is award material either. oh, George Romero Dead movies, ZZZ. Evil Dead, Funny but not for the reasons fans think it's funny. Campbell sucks, nuff said.

Recent overrated movies:
The Terminal
Castaway
Catch me if you Can
Does Tom Hanks have to be in every fucking movie? I hate this guy now. I used to like his old stuff like Bachelor Party, Punch Line, and maybe Philedelphia. But his movies post-Philidelphia have mostly been overtly sentiment tripe.

American Pie
A horny teen fucks a pie. Let's name the movie after this one event that is not even remotely funny. Let's make a trilogy of movies about this teen and his lame fuck-ups.

I, Robot
I liked it the first time I saw it, both times, it was called Bladerunner/Terminator. Like Tom Hanks, Will Smith needs to star making less movies. Why do I have to see Smith's face everytime I fire-up my cable box?

The Matrix.
Ohh god no. no. This movie wanted to be a sci-fi epic with deep metaphysical questions, but in the end, any movie with Keanu Reeves uttering "Woah, I know kung-fu" can be deemed anti-intellectual.
BAH HUMBUG
Just cuz it's from Japan doesn't mean it's automatically good, people.
Kung Fu Hustle is from Hong Kong...
Oh man. That is one of my top ten favorite movies, absolutely brilliant.

You hate it because of Tom Hanks? I thought he did a pretty awesome job

FBI Hanks: Well, would you like to hear me tell a joke?
FBI asshole: Yeah. Yeah, we'd love to hear a joke from you.
FBI Hanks: Knock knock.
FBI asshole: Who's there?
FBI Hanks: Go fuck yourselves.
How about Ghost? I think a lot of people like the movie even though it's not ranking very high on IMDB.
The special effects were ALOT more impressive over a decade ago.

Although admittedly Whoopie was just as annoying.
Footloose and Grease.
Agreed on Grease - goddamn I hate that movie, why does every chick in the world just love it.

I've never seen footloose.

have to agreee with napoleon dynamite. that deserves to be on top of the list as the most overrated movie in the world. and you know what i hate, it's when people say "o, you just didn't get it." i got the movie and it was hardly funny and a poor excuse for a movie.

matrix revolution was also pretty bad, reloaded was decent, but not as memorable or fun to watch as the first.

some people mentioned the american pie movies and thinking about it i have to agree that they really don't stand repeat viewings at all. it's fun the first time you watch it, but after that you realize that they're a bunch of idiots.

and while i don't really hate 2001, i find that overrated also.
donnie darko... 'nuff said
OMG that movie was terrible! My friend told me it was awesome so I watched it with him and half way thru i am wondering if itll get any better... and it never does!

The Fast and the Furious

I see it as good entertainment wise, but why in the world do idiots that see the movie have to go buy ugly wings and wheels that barely fit for their cars? It irritates me because I see guys like that everyday that rev their crappy cars at me b/c I have real rims on my car; that doesn't make my car nor their's fast.
OMG that movie was terrible! My friend told me it was awesome so I watched it with him and half way thru i am wondering if itll get any better... and it never does!
i thought donnie darko was a good movie, but too many people hype it up to be greater than it actually is.

I know it was a classic for some people, but I have to say one movie that I had to watch only because it was an assignment for school

Fargo

I just couldn't stand it, dumb acting, stupid plot, NO REASON TO BE A CLASSIC.

Another one could be, Heavy Metal, but that's prob because I saw it with the wrong person.
The special effects were ALOT more impressive over a decade ago.

But there was ghost sex!!!

Bourne Identity.

Everyone said it was great. I didn't enjoy it at all.

I did enjoy:
Spiderman
Matrix (series) (its not overrated...ppl trashed it)
Every Tom hanks movie (he is a great actor that is now unfairly judged in the Oscars)
Titanic
Eternal Sunshine (very abstract movie)

I agree with:
Sin city...I liked it, but it's not what everybody says it is.
Kill Bill...Same as above
Napoleon Dynamite
Star Wars (1-6 minus 5)
CG Animated movies i.e. Shrek, Finding Nemo, etc.
Braveheart
Gladiator
Black Hawk Down

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it, and I honestly don't know how the movie was received througout the realms of the interent, but what first comes to my mind is Constantine.

I'm sure not everyone loves it, but for some reason nearly everyone of my friends thinks it's the greatest movie ever.

My response to that is... "I need to eat." :p

Matrix
Lord of the rings
harry potter

I tried watching all of these and their sequels. They all suck in my opinion I just can't see why they did as good as they did or why so many like them.
