New Gamestop Policy

Wblaze

CAGiversary!
I just went to Gamestop in Rockville, MD to trade in two games. After doing that I asked if they have any used Fable 2. They said they did, but as of today, they have to hold all new used games for 18 days. Apparently this is due to controlling the trading of stolen games.

This is not fun at all.

It has to be pawnshop laws or something. I know it is like that in my state. Well not the 18 days, but the abiding to the pawnshop laws here.

I just bought used dead space, fable 2, and saints row 2 the other day at gs.
and how exactly do they plan to track stolen games, lol?
Are you fucking retarded?

They're doing this in Delaware now, they take a color scan of your license and are supposed to hang on to he games for 2 weeks or something.

I think we've had a thread about this before.

It's a reasonable policy.

Lord knows some people are into some shady shit when it comes to trading games or selling them. I've seen more than a few tradelists here on CAG that are red flags. Someone here happens to have two sealed copies of Guitar Hero World Tour, is selling them below MSRP and is offering free overnight shipping and they consistently have items, "played only once" for sale. Yeah right.

no, and anyone who thinks they can track stolen games is fucking retarded.

go fuck your mother.

the maturity level of this thread has just plummeted.

So, ah, ignoring the childish comments... this is almost certainly something that is only in effect for the county where you were.

It also has too many holes to be believable. What designates a new game? I would assume that it would be for every game that they took in used... and you have to bet that gamestop likes this policy even less than you do.

They accept a brand new game at less than 1/2 it's value, and now have to sit on it for almost 3 weeks before they can turn it around? Meanwhile the market value of that game has likely plummeted. It won't be quite as easy to get $54 for it since it's now 3 weeks old. And as often happens, the price could have dropped on it already.

I'm still waiting for an answer as how you can track stolen games. Only in a crummy little town perhaps. While it's easy to track a stolen rolex which will likely be traded into the towns only "NICKS'S PAWN SHOPS'S" chain of pawn shops, it's IMPOSSIBLE to track stolen software in a larger city and not worth anyone's time.

actually even if gamestop sat on new used games for 3 weeks, the market would still be looking for those games since they are hoarding them for 3 weeks, not many cheaper copies will be available for the demand to die off so quickly.

gamestop gives half for new games? I thought they give 1/4 of the selling price for all games period.

How is Gamestop planning to prove a stolen game is yours?

Can't anybody just go in with a found recipe or something and claim it?

Its not a new policy to Gamestop, just to your area. In WA state, Pierce County, they have to hold games for 30 days.
