But really, WHY they chose to remove the full BC versus other features that maybe everyone wasn't using(WiFi, memory card ports) is beyond me, but this generation I'm struggling to understand what both Sony AND MS are trying to do.
Also though, if the BR diodes are that cheap now, what were they when the PS3 launched last year? Another thing is, I don't really care about multi discs, switching them means nothing to me, it actually gets me off my lazy ass to switch them.
As for the system not getting cheaper than $200-300, I just have to say to look at Sony's prior two gens for an inkling of what is in store in years to come for the price of the PS3. Hell, they're either barely at a year after release or close and they've already shaved $200 off the price, albeit at the expense of some USEFUL components.
So, to say its NEVER gonna drop below a certain pricepoint is foolish, considering Sony and every console manufacturers history of lowering the price once the tech becomes cheap enough to warrant it.
Welcome to the 21st century. The PS3 (hell even the Wii if you want to break it down) isn't for cheap people like yourself. It's considered cutting edge entertainment. The PS3 isn't a kid toy. It's of course going to cost a premium. Sure the majority may not have it (the country is to large, same goes for the world), but WiFi is important and used by many, and card readers area nice bonus. Ditto for Blu-Ray (more and more are buying HDTV's).
The stuff for you are dead systems. Buy them cheap, play all the old games. Obviously from multiple posts about everything everywhere cutting edge isn't your suit. So just stop bitching about prices because you don't like that new technology costs more money than you want to spend. It's technology, it will always be this way. Stuff only becomes cheap when it gets older and starts to become or is obsolete. End of story, that will never change.
Hell systems and games in general are cheaper now than they were about 15 years ago. Due to inflation and technology costs, the same $300-400 for a system and $60 per game is actually less money now figuratively.
And honestly coming from someone who wishes he could afford better stuff than he has (who doesn't want all the brand new cool stuff you see), pricing complaints are generally just because a person can't afford it. Basically, if you can afford something that interests you, you will buy it (deals be damned, eventually that would be thrown out the window), if you can't you won't (and some will bitch). If you can't justify a PS3 (and especially some of the other things to take full advantage of it, a new HDTV, etc), then don't bitch about the price like Sony is charging some unfair premium.
I'm just sick of people all the time bitching about prices of things, if you can't afford it you won't buy it until you can, and if it's close and you can't justify it, then in a sense you really can't afford it. It's just annoying, there's a hell of a lot of things as a 21 year old in college that I can't afford, but running around just bitching about prices does nothing, proves no point, serves no point, and just annoys those who are around to hear the said bitching.

love the commercials by the way, by far the best game system commercials i've seen in a long time
