Now they've potentially gone back to their "rerelease every console at least once" bag and pulled this out.
Colors for new customers (Funtastic N64) is the only thing they've done lately. The Q was in Japan only so it doesn't count here, and the last consoles with various iterations wer the SNES and NES, and those were released late into the game and didnt' add anything significant other than smaller shells. Most people wouldn't even know what the redesigns look like.
People are making too big a deal out of this. They won't change the hardware beyond, supposedly, adding DVD functionality. Nintendo knows too well that you can't divide the market into have and have-nots, 'cuz that led to things like Conker's Bad Fur Day being available to only a small subset of people, and probably worked against it.
You people are making shit up just to bitch about a console you probably weren't even that interested in to begin with.
Meanwhile we have two other competitors who actually have two different consoles with significant differences at launch.
If you're going to have a double standard, I guess you ought to throw yourself into it full steam.
There's a small - small - change that this is all software oriented, which seems to be what Sonic whoever is saying, meaning it could be a small upgrade/download in the future for (maybe) a small price, but that is huge speculation. It's also a little weird that Sonic whoever seems to be the driving force behind this announcement, not Nitnendo. I imagine if Nintendo wanted to make this announcement, they'd do it next year at E3 or later, not now.
It doesn't matter. I have a PS2 to play DVDs, and I imagine sooner or later I'm going to make a media center PC and hook it up to my TV anyway.
Now, if you're including handhelds under the console umbrella, you have a slightly better argument, cuz no one will disagree backlit SPs trounced the original GBA and that Nintendo could have implemented that tech earlier. But after that, the micro wasn't worth it and the SP2 had more brightness, but those are almost negligable. Then there's the DSLite, which I must admit tips more in the favor of "why wasn't it like this first?" than not, but I don't really care.
