New XBOX Experience - General Discussion
With tentacles.
:whistle2:# THAT is a whole different situation than "Cool", I'd say...
Here's why people care: People don't want to be dragged into games where they have 0 of anything by their friends. Also, it looks bad on their card. Also, Yaris is really bad.
Heh, tell that to the people who keep inviting me to Gears II. I've never played the game, and yet I keep getting blasted invites to it...

Most of the people who do things like Send invites out of the Blue always seem to be hardcore-FPS junkies... I don't play/own many, so I generally seem to avoid the most annoying section of people on Live. Most people you fight on something as niche as Battle Fantasia, are pretty decent individuals.
I know all of that already. My question was...who cares? It seems like I'm not alone on this, though, so I no longer feel like I'm missing something.
Why do you have such a problem with other people not wanting games they don't own on their gamer card? Mind your own business.

Something's been bugging me the last week about Live, and I think NXE is contributing to it. I'm getting Player Invites when I'm not even online. And for games I don't even have.
USA Today ever give a reason why people, like me, got an email saying we were accepted yet never got the NXE early?
This was sent to someone who wrote Mike (author of the article) today.

Mike Snider wrote:
I understand. At this point, all I can tell you is that I know that only a fraction of the people originally planned have gotten into the preview. I am not personally involved in the approval and passalong of that information to Microsoft, so that's why I have been silent since Friday. A couple of times I posted a note based on what I thought was happening only to have that not come to pass. Could we do it all over again, I would just let people email me directly. But that is not the way the operation is supposed to happen. We are working on a solution for future projects and looking for a way to make it up to those who were left out and disappointed on this one. Stay tuned. And again, I apologize.

And this was written to someone who wrote Sean (Project Manager) today.

Hi Gallager,

Please accept my apologies throughout this effort and thank you for your patience. We're handling these on an individual basis now and you are on the remedy list.

We'll be in touch shortly with an update.

Sean

Nope....just this:

I can't wait for them to "make it up" to me....I'm even holding my breath. I expect to hear from them any minute. Any minute now.

EDIT: Ahhh...beat me to it Thrustbucket

i don't really blame them but it was a disaster... not a huge deal, i thought it would be cool to have it early to show it off to my friends but other than that, waiting isn't a big deal

Something annoying me that hopefully will be fixed once everyone else has NXE:

When I try to voice chat with someone who doesn't have the update, the audio is all screwed up. Lots of pausing and when it does come through it is sped up to the point it is unintelligible. When I'm actually in-game the chat is fine.

Well it was bad enough it prompted me to write up an editorial on the whole NXE hype machine I wont post the url now but if you guys want I will.... It was seen enough that our site even got an email from I believe Mike and Sean saying we where "fair" to them... Trust me we could have been worse.

It will be its because the NXE private chats and messages use a different audio codec. You wont see that issue after the 19th....

I'd like to give it a read

Like I said, the first part makes sense. The second part, that's why I posed the question and got a lot of good responses from both perspectives. I simply don't get why people make a big deal out of something that does nothing for your Xbox experience. Gamer scores are nice and all, but they don't do anything. It's not like you can convert them into something. So, that's why I have never understood why anyone worries about a game being on there. It's not like people randomly message you, "Oh my God, you have Yaris on your list!!! Hahahahahahah!"
Why do you have such a problem with other people not wanting games they don't own on their gamer card? Mind your own business.
Wow, way to be a jerk? First of all, we're discussing things on a message board. If you talk about things in a public forum, it becomes everyone's business. Second of all, as I have said a number of times already, I don't have a problem with anyone. I just don't get what the big deal is, especially compared to the other great features we're getting. But that's ok. Let's not have a mature, adult conversation about things. Let's just keep our opinions to ourselves and be rude when anyone says something we don't like. Way to go, champ. Seems like you might have had one too many "proooto punches" to the head.

Don't know if anybody answered this but, did they fix the VGA to DVI handshake that had problems? I know my 360 won't do it cause of the DVI I have on my TV

I am very late to the party and know nothing of this.

One question.

How does one who already has Netflix link their xbox with it?

You download the netflix app from the marketplace Then when you load it up it will give you a code to link it to your netflix account....

So I just turned on my 360 to play Gears 2 and it did and update and then downloaded and installed the NXE.

Did they decide to launch early or something? Or just let more of the people who registered for the early trial in? I don't see anything about it on Major Nelson's site.
I just turned on my 360 to play Gears as well lol...and it made me update...I'm currently installing the NXE...early release?
Has to be an early release. After reading the last few posts, I decided to turn on my 360, and the update popped up.

I just checked and got the update, as well. Is this a final wave of Major Nelson's previews or just MS possibly trying to lighten the load on downloads for the big night?

Sign up for the preview? You're in!

Instead of adding another 10,000 people to the preview program like we did last week, we've decided to do something a little different: everyone who successfully applied to the preview program (and had a valid console ID) will be getting the New Xbox Experience sometime within the next few hours. That’s right…we’re hooking everyone else up with NXE a bit early. If you signed up and are not prompted, that means you did not enter your console ID properly and you'll have to wait until Wednesday.

Don’t worry, it’s almost here.

EDIT: aah beat me to it lol

if you signed up for the preview and didn't get it yet, these things tend to be rolling. when i got it in the 3rd round, i got it after some and before others. so be patient :)

alright now it says everybody...and seems alot here are getting it....but I still am not...I've tried starting up both Gears 2 and Fallout 3 and no update...I have the leaked NXE and still can't sign into live as well. I know I put my console ID in right...I wonder what's up.

ahh alright...I'll go back to watching Raw for now lol

I have a few questions tho...are the people getting in now getting a confirmation email? Or is it just happening...also...I rented to own my 360....but I own it now....will that perhaps screw me becasue of the console id? or no?

Well, I certainly like it. The Netflix streaming seems to work pretty well, better than it does with PlayOn. With PlayOn, I often have to let the movie sit for awhile, in order enough of it to buffer, so that I can watch it without any skipping. Also, when you fast forward, the buffering is quite quick the 360.

I was in the dash and didn't get anything then all of the sudden when I loaded up Rockband it prompted for an update I thought it was a title update till the box restarted and I saw the NXE install box.
East Coast...just FINALLY (fuckING) got it. Updating now.
really? I'm on the east coast (Maine) ...just checked again..and I still don't have shit...
I'm guessing East Coasters get it last.
I'm on the east coast, and got it when I turned the console on around 10pm.

Ok word I have gotten this survey was over 100,000 people and instead of the normal chosen random group they have to batch all these people in bunches from the survey into the system expect it to take a few hours folks.... If by tomorrow you don't get it and signed up for the survey then you might worry..... Well worry on the 19th if it still wont

Yea I'm not really worried per say...Just impatient lol....but...I will be damn worried if come the 19th and I still don't get the prompt to update.

I'll check mine when I get home. I actually installed the update early, maybe I'll finally be able to connect to live.

Yeah wait till the 19th before freaking out.... Major said if you signed up and are still not prompted it means you didn't enter your console id correctly.

Quick question for those who've had the update for a while.

Where's the "personal settings" option where you can change your status to "Appear Offline" etc. It was right on the guide that popped up when you hit the xbox button before, but I can't find it now.

Hit the Dashboard button and go to the settings tab, and then it's under preferences iirc... one of the ones in there at least.
