According to my manager at Gamestop next month's GameInformer magazine will have a coupon that gives you 50% more when you trade in 4 or more games. It seems hard for me to believe but he uses that as his pitch to sell subscriptions. Of course the catch is you have to get the magazine which, I believe, is exclusive for GameInformer card holders (the card that gives you 10% off used, 10% more on trade in).

Just thought I'd pass along a potentially amazing deal. Use this thread to figure out how to take advantage of the coupon (you know, what games to buy where to make the most profit).

I know that God of War gets $25 right now. Who knows about next month.
is it the usual exclusion list?
no exclusions----games like Madden 2002 wont get much anyways (%50 of $.25 is only 12 cents)

Forza = $37.50
Tekken 5 = $30
Sudeki = $6
Twisted Metal: Head On = $27
Total: $101

Picked up Battlefield 2 and put the other half on an Atelier Iris pre-order. Not bad at all. :)

Some more trade-in values to throw out there...I'm really liking this deal. All values are after the 50% bump...

Episode III (PS2/Xbox): $37.50
God of War: $37.50
Star Wars Republic Commado: $30
Shadow of Rome: $30
Star Fox Assault: $27
Eye Toy: Play (disc only): $12 (!)

This deal is great for getting those pre-orders that GR doesn't carry...I got pre-orders for Indigo Prophecy, Lost in Blue DS, and Trauma Center DS. Sweet!
i got June's issue like 2 days before I got my July...
wthell? same thing just happened to me this weekend. i finally got the july issue on saturday... less than a week after i got my june issue  i can't wait to use the 50% coupon. thanks for the post op :D
What's the cover price on the magazine, and what's the cost of the card? (Am I right that it got bumped to $15?)
You would be correct about the price of the value card because now it is for a year.

Gotta love those coupons. :)

I have an Atelier Iris pre-order waiting for me at the store and am a little low on cash. Great chance to unload a few games that I don't like. I checked the thread but I didn't see anyone had traded in WWE Smackdown vs. Raw. Anyone know what the value is for that yet?

Do they accept printed coupons? I don't really want to buy the magazine and would rather use the scan on page two. If they do accept it, would it have to be in color? I'm a member but the first issue I'm getting is next months...

I think this would be YMMV because some of the stores around me don't take copies. They want the original from the magazine.

The coupon reads that it's 40% added to the trade-in values when you used the card. I tried to use just the coupon and was shut down; my $21 coupon bump got cut down to $6 because I had to sign up for the magazine. Still, I don't expect to have gotten a better price for the games I sold (Snicket, Azkaban, REmake, Paper Mario).

Okay, I'll try to clear up any confusion about the coupon in one fell swoop.

Of course, not every manager adheres to the correct communication and someone may say differently.

1.) You must have a GI Card.
2.) You must have an original coupon from Game Informer. (No copies)
3.) You may trade in as MANY games as you want and get the 50% total increase.
I. You must have atleast 4. (Not just 4 and only 4)
II. They can only be PS2, PSP, Xbox, Cube, DS titles.
4.) The Subscription is 14.99 for 1 year and includes the More Card which increases trades by 10% and discounts used games, used accessories, and used DVDs by 10%. (Not Systems)
5.) If you have a base of 30 dollars to trade in, your subscription is free because of the mark-up, which you will then get the next coupon (Usually about every 3 months, but there was a long lull before this one.) without having to worry about the initial investment. Plus, any used games you buy with your credit will be discounted 10%.

Just to add onto Villy's post, according to my Gamestop you may not trade in two copies of the same game with the extra 50%. The price my Gamestop paid for Jade Empire LE was $10!!! $15 with the extra 50%. I really wish I had traded it in before the price drop.

What I traded in:

Tiger Woods PGA Tour (PSP) - $33
Kessen III (PS2) - $33
Star Trek: Shattered Universe (Xbox) - $12
SSX 3 (PS2) - $12
Burnout 2: Point of Impact (GC) - $12
Dark Cloud 2 (PS2) - $10.50

Got the last 4 for $20 from Movie Gallery. Also, I got more for Kessen III than I paid for it brand new (thanks Overstock :D).

My trade-ins were ok I guess...

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw $13.50 (I thought I might get a bit more than that)
Sonic Mega Collection - PS2 $12.00 (More than I thought I would get)
Rallisport Challenge $3.00 (Wasn't expecting much anyway)
Metroid Prime $1.50 (I thought I would get at least $5.00 for this)

$30.00 total.

If you buy the $15 GS/GI Card, can you get 10% off on online purchases?

I was thinking about buying some PO games online (Victorious Boxer PS2 to name one title) after trading in with the extra 50% coupon. I just bought the Gamestop card recently but didn't get the GUN GI issue in the mail yet... so I dropped by GS to ask for a free copy (they consented) but forgot to ask if the GS/GI card is valid online for the 10% discount.
Nah, that game has dropped in price and trading value so much that it's rediculous. It only fetches 5 at gamerush, and gamerush 99 percent of the time beats Gamestop's trade in values, except PSP, which gets 170 at gamestop but only 160 at gamerush. A used copy only goes for 12 anyways.

here's a few more trade in prices (50% already added):

midnight club 3: dub edition (ps2) $37.50
conker: live & reloaded (xbox) $37.50
mvp baseball (psp) $36.00

:D

Any idea what Bloodrayne2 (PS2 or XB) trades in for after the 50% deal?

I saw in the FYE thread you can get $19 cash and I have an extra copy to trade... I doubt GS can beat that but you never know.
Sorry to bump this thread, but is this deal still going on? I may need to track down another July issue if so.
yes, i just used another coupon on tuesday (7/19). i believe this deal runs until the end of the month (sunday, 7/31). :)

Yup, this is good until July 31st. I just did it the other day.

Amazingly enough, the GC version of Killer 7 gets you a grand total of $17 AFTER the 50% bonus. fucking jerks.

Sux that my GS screwed me over, and made me use 3 coupons at a 4 game limit...then cut me off for "exploiting" the offer.
If you buy the $15 GS/GI Card, can you get 10% off on online purchases?.
Nope, only EB allows their discount card to work at both B&M and online.
Metroid Prime $1.50 (I thought I would get at least $5.00 for this)
Check Gamestop.com's price for it, it's $7.99 used. So that tells you that they're giving very little for it.
Sorry to bump this thread, but is this deal still going on? I may need to track down another July issue if so.
I think so... I'm about to try it next week.

You're going back again? I thought I read in an earlier post, GS only allows the extra 50% once per an account.
Nope, only EB allows their discount card to work at both B&M and online.
Another reason why I'm not looking forward to when the EB/GS merger becomes complete.

I'd rather go to GameRush. They give way better trade in values usually. This 50% probably puts them a little above GameRush, for now.

It works as many times as you have the coupon. You don't even need a Game Informer card to make the coupon work (a cashier may ask to see your card to make sure you have one but they don't enter it into the computer). I just grab a magazine off the counter and use that one and I don't have the card. Course I work there so I'm not stealing in the same sense as someone walking in off the street is. It's more a benefit for working the shittiest job I've ever had.

In a similar vein you don't need to enter a Game Informer card on a trade in. Yes they'll check to see if you have one but if you're buddy-buddy with the cashier or do some other favor (seriously ask for discounts in exchange for reservations or subscriptions, the cashier can do so much for you and they won't get in trouble since reservations and subscriptions are Gamestop's bread and butter) you might be able to get them to click on the discount.

Also all to-be-sold cards in the box next to the cash register are already active. If someone is getting really ripped off, like the guy last week who traded in a GBA SP and about 10 games for a PSone and 6 games, I'll use one of those cards. Again YMMV as far as the cashier.

Finally the coupon works until the end of the month. Really that means when they pull the discount from the computer but I've seen some discounts in there that aren't being advertised. I think since all Gamestops are hooked up to the same network region specific discounts are available at any other Gamestop.
I'd rather go to GameRush. They give way better trade in values usually. This 50% probably puts them a little above GameRush, for now.
It's said so often but not everyone has a GameRush near them. I've never even seen one. Also this deal works out if you plan it right. I've traded in games that I've spent about $50 total on for $175 store credit. Not that bad in my opinion.

Too bad Gamerush has a shitty selection and trade-in's take generally 5 times as long. I traded in 4 games and used the coupon, preordered a game and a guide, talked with the employee, and was out of Gamestop in ten minutes.

It would have taken me at least 30 - 40 minutes to do that at GR, easily, and that's being generous... I'm not even factoring in the time it takes for them to track down someone who can do trade-in's.

Plus, I couldn't have preordered Makai Kingdom.

Moral of the story is that it's not nice to thread crap on an awesome deal.

Ok, so go.

I think it ends on the 30th... I have two issues of this issue/July. If I can't find a good trade in deal with the games I have, then I can send it to anyone who needs it.

i stopped by today and found out the trade in value on Pikmin 2 and Star Fox: Assualt were both $18 before the 50% thing. Basically I can get $27 for them, which is about what I would sell them for. It really isn't that bad of a deal. After you factor in the trouble of trying to sell a game, plus the shipping costs, the deal looks pretty decent.
