According to my manager at Gamestop next month's GameInformer magazine will have a coupon that gives you 50% more when you trade in 4 or more games. It seems hard for me to believe but he uses that as his pitch to sell subscriptions. Of course the catch is you have to get the magazine which, I believe, is exclusive for GameInformer card holders (the card that gives you 10% off used, 10% more on trade in).

Just thought I'd pass along a potentially amazing deal. Use this thread to figure out how to take advantage of the coupon (you know, what games to buy where to make the most profit).

I know that God of War gets $25 right now. Who knows about next month.
I believe five games was the limit.
It says it right on the coupon trade in any 4 games.
I gotta brag about this one...

I traded in four copies of March Madness 2005 that I got free at Best Buy for $72.00..

$18.00 a piece!
wow I wish my BB had march madness

I did the deal twice today (once with the actual coupon, and once with a coupon that I printed off from the link in this thread). Got around $270 credit for 8 recent games.
Anyone have a scanned coupon accepted?

Thanks
yeah, no problem. you should get it excepted since it gives directions on how to apply the coupon onto a trade in on the coupon

I guess i got some wrong info... the GS clerk told me it was a 50% off coupon for any pre-owned game you want to buy... but now I come to CAG and find out it's not true... The GS clerk was probably just saying that to pimp me into buying the GS Card/Game Informer subscription.

I caved in since I would save money in the long run... I asked them to throw in the last 2-issues for free (Warriors issue and the God of Gears issue).

How did you manage that? Are't they worth $9 store credit, so it'd be $9+$4.50x4=$54?

Just for the record, games like Forza, Doom 3, GT4, etc. EVEN WITH THE DEAL get more credit at Gamerush/Blockbuster. Most of those trade in for 30 plus tax, while the games getting the most at Gamestop, like Forza, are getting 35 + tax (which comes out to a little more than 37.50). Plus, if your store hasn't stopped the Trade in 3, get one for 5, then this deal is of even lesser value compared to Blockbusters. Hell, even DBZ Sagas trades in for 30 at Blockbuster. Of course, for lesser value games, this deal is still pretty good. And also, Gamerush/Blockbuster has a lot less selection than Gamestops in most cases.

No, you can buy the magazine and get the coupon that way, but you will only get 40% extra. Also, if you do this, make sure the copy you buy actually has the coupon and wasn't ripped out by someone else.

The trade in was (and maybe still is) $12 a peice+$50 percent or $6 bucks for $18 a piece.
what's on the cover of the issue that has this coupon?
July issue has GUN on the front of it.

you think this would be worth it at all if I trade in old games? like getaway or stretch panic? I might be better off with jsut stickign with ebay... though my BB has about 20 March Madness 2005 for free just lying around... Could make a killing with this... $75 in credit is sure nice of a deal.

On the other hand, consider that credit at EB/Gamestop is more valuable to some of us that Gamerush credit. Given that it's often possible to buy games at EB/GS for half what they trade in for at Blockbuster, $30 in Gamestop credit might be more equivalent to $40-50 in Blockbuster credit.
anyone have any idea what RE2 and RE3 for gamecube get?
I traded RE2 today and with the extra 50% I got $27.00.

Does anybody know how much Brothers in Arms (xbox) gets? Gamestop wouldnt give me a quote on the phone and tradestops (price x 1.4) didnt seem right-came out at $9.00
tradestop prices arent the same as gamestop
Usually, gamestop trade-in value = 1.4 x tradestop trade-in value. That was to what Kingjay89 was referring.

EB & GS is Ripping everyone trade-in even w/ extra 40% off. They still make alot $$$ out of it.

Example:
GR trade-in Midnight Club 3, Doom 3 for $30 Each plus and you don't need to trade-in 4 games to get this deal. Also, you can pre-order any game for $30. :)

If you're talking about the Gamerush "trade in 2, get a new or pre-order a game for $29.99" then that ended already. I am refering to the "you can pre-order any game for $30" line.

you act like gs and eb sell every used game they take in for lots of money... do you realize how many copies of san andreas were traded in for 20-30 dollars of credit... do you realize how many of those will end up selling for 8.99 in a couple years, the answer is most

That and not everyone has a GameRush they can go to.

I was able to get $33 for Mario Power Tennis, $27 for Twisted Metal: Head On, $12 for WWE Raw 2 and $18 for March Madness 2005 (total just over $90), which is as much or more than I paid for any of them individually.

Granted, I usually don't go anywhere near a Gamestop, EB or Rhino with my used games with their standard trade-in values, since they will be more than happy to give you absolutely squat. I do understand why they do it though, since they obiously have to deal with the price dropping on them. But the trade-in value drops MUCH faster than the price they sell the game for. Gamestop will only give you $18 for Stella Deus, but it's still $44.99 pre-owned. Hell, used PSP games sell for the same price as new ones!

Yeahhh right... in couple years you can get brand new copy less than $10 why bother buy USED (you are out of ur mind). If you trade-in 1-3 game you get $20 credit each then they sell it for $45 each plus taxes.

iheartmetal's point was, a lot of the games they take in sit on the shelf until they sell for less than the store gave in trade credit. Just because they pay $20 to $30 and try to sell it for $45, does not mean that they actually will sell it for $45. They are taking a risk by taking in the games that they may end up losing money on them. Their business is centered around the ability to come out ahead more often than not, but that isn't always how it works.

Just came back from trading in games. The guy there actually allowed me to trade in more than 4 games (though I did only trade in 4). I brought 7 games to see thier value.
Traded in (all XBOX):
Star Wars Episode 3---$37.50 (got for $30 from Compusa)
Unreal Championship 2k5---$30.00 (got for $20 from Best Buy)
MLB 2k5------$12 (got for $15 from Best Buy after GCC)
NBA Live 2005-----$16.50 (got for $20 used a while ago at EB)
Total----$96 in credit for games I spent $85 on

Other games value (did not trade in)
NBA Street Volume 3----$21.00
Ghost Recon 2----$12.00
Brothers in Arms----$12.00
Is there any restriction as far as trading multiple copies of the same game?
We're never supposed to take more than one of the same game or system in one transaction per day. That doesn't mean we follow thru on that. It's all about who you deal with and who's working with them (their hands might be tied).

Some guy wanted to trade in 3 PSP (he told us they were bought off the back of a truck at a flea market) but our regional manager was there and she said to only accept one from him ever and call the other stores and tell them his description so he couldn't go there.
Dude, if this is like the last deal trade 4 games and get an extra 40% where they changed all the trade in values to equal basically what they were before the deal I wouldn't even touch this.

But, lets say they do this straight up then that means that God of War for example would trade in for $37.50 which is 50% more of it's trade in value of $25.
I don't know I took advantage of that deal and got a pretty penny on the game I traded in.

Anyone had problems using the scan of the coupon and just getting 40% added if we don't have the value card?

Used my coupon and actually pulled a profit of about %10-15 MORE than what I paid for the games :)

BTW I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but you must trade in 4 games (no less, no more) and have an GS discount card to get the extra %50.

i went into Gamestop yesterday to get a bearing on trade in values on:

Midnight Club 3(XBX)
Jade Empire:LE(XBX)
Fight Night Round 2(XBX)
Splinter Cell 3(XBX)

and it came out to be around 110 bucks with the coupon...man that really sucks...

No, you can trade as many as you want. You have to trade at least 4.

odd... i received a game informer yesterday (gears of war on the cover) and didn't get a coupon :? somebody in this thread mentioned that it had a game called "guns" on the cover. damn, if this issue just came in yesterday, the deal will be over by the time i receive the newest one, LOL!

That's also what I was told today. The lady at the counter said, "4 games or more".

Anyway here is what I traded today (Prices include extra 50%)

God of War(PS2) - $37.50
Mario Tennis (GCN) - $33.00
MGS3:SE (PS2) - $13.50
Brothers in Arm (PS2) - $13.50

- $97.50 total

$110 sounds pretty good to me. Why does it suck? Were you expecting full retail?

It's all about who's working. The rules from corporate are only one copy of a game, 4 games only, and no photocopied or printed coupons - they must come from the magazine.

That said I have been giving people this deal on more than 4 games and DVDs but I'm abiding by the other two rules. Any cashier can do whatever they want, there's even a "shop worn" discount where the cashier imputs a discount. They could discount it 100% but then corporate would notice that and they'd be fired. I'm sure including DVDs in this coupon deal won't get picked up by corporate. Just be friendly to the cashier and they might help you out.
