Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread

I could have sworn I saw a pic on joystiq or something that when playing Super Mario Land, you can get the outline of a gameboy on the top screen. I don't have this on my unit..sure I see the little gameboy icon with a pic off the main menu before you start the game, but think it looks bad ass once in game if I can get this 'emulated' or whatever. I checked settings too and didn't really pinpoint an option like this..

In short: Hold select or start while launching the game from the main 3DS menu. There's also options to change the color of GB emulation between black/white and the weird green color the GBs had.
It'll be interesting to see if 3DSware gets released today alongside the normal releases.
Pretty sure eShop stuff is scheduled for Thursday releases.

No one really knows or understands why. It's a eight hotdogs in a package and ten hot dog buns in a package thing.

According to Nintendo life all shop channel updates (Wii, DSi and 3DS) are now changing to thursday. Kinda odd, but gonna miss starting off my work week with hearing about the newest batch of stuff coming to the shop channel.

Silly. I guess it's to avoid confusion for the casual gamer who may think 3DSware can be downloaded on a DSi or something.

...

Still stupid.

Oh, just read this. I'll miss Monday updates, but it doesn't bother me that much. It's not like there's been a history of things to look forward to. Hopefully the 3DSware will change that perception...but I doubt it.
Gamestop is having a Zelda preview event on Saturday, June 18. Says that people will be able to buy the game a day early. Still think I'll wait on Kmart to get that $15 coupon...

Where are you guys even reading that it can be bought a day early? All it says is that fans will have the opportunity to try it early... Underneath that it says "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for 3DS will be available for sale on Sunday, 6/19". Am I missing something?

fuckstop changed the message on that page. It clearly used to say that one could purchase the game on the 18th. Either they're not allowed to say that officially, or someone just changed the page for whatever reason.

It's very unlike Nintendo to let a retailer break street date... and yes, they definitely changed the text on the page lol. Shady as fuck. I'd call a store near me which is doing the event and ask but it's so far away I'm not gonna go either way.

Thank god ~_~ I was thinking... "How the hell did I misread that?"

That makes sense. I was wondering why I was the only one to seemingly notice what the page said. They probably didn't mean to type it up that way or there must have been some misunderstanding along the way... I find it highly doubtful that Nintendo would have a promotion like that going, unless it was at their main place in NY.

Just curious since I don't have a 3DS, but how does streetpass work? If I'm just walking down the street and it's closed and in my pocket, and someone else with a 3ds comes within range, our mii's meet up? Does it drain the battery a ton?

I guess it just has to be on, because I came home and they were just there, first time I carried it around in public. Not sure about the battery drain since I put it on the charger at night.

You can have it in standby mode for ~30-40 hours before the battery dies. Standby is when you have it powered on, but the lid is closed. Just like with a DS. Yes, your Miis meet.

Cubic Ninja comes out tomorrow. Anyone here get their hands on it yet?

Nintendo Power kinda tore it apart. I'm hoping it's not as shitty as they seem to think it is.

There is one in my area but it's about 20-25 minutes away, I'm going to kill the Nintendo rep. She told me the reason she likes going to that store is because that store is close to home. I wonder if I should keep my order now, I have it pre-ordered through Amazon for $38 with a gold box discount I received. Now to think this over and decide what to do, suggestions? lol

EDIT: just read the rest of the post, I guess I should call and be informed before I do anything.

Great to know, thank you!

Took a trip to check Target clearance today...and there it was (Ocarina of Time 3DS).
Not clearance of course, but with the rest of the 3ds games, and available for purchase.
I went to the College Point (Queens, NY) Target and they have it as of noon on Tuesday. Not sure if they'll take it down, but my receipt shows a generic '3ds game' instead of the game title.
I know there's a Sale next week, but couldn't resist picking it up a few days early.

Do you have the asin or dcpi so we could check stock at local targets online?

Not sure it would work if it's just a generic code but it's worth a shot.

The receipts for video games almost always read as "System Software" but there is still a unique DPCI attached to it. I'm just amazed this wasn't hardlocked at POS though.

DPCI is 207-021-331
That said, even if it's in stock at your store, it may not be on the floor. As usual these Target things are always YMMV.

*Edit* Tried it myself, and it shows 'not available' at my local store (except that I'm holding the receipt and the game).
does it have anything image on the inside cover?
The whole packaging is disappointing.
I know they're going with these 'greener' boxes, but they're very flimsy. I saw somewhere that they were going to decorate the inner linings with pictures of rupees (or something like it), but there's nothing there.

There's no manual. It's just one colored sheet that folds into place. Granted if you've played Oot, you know what to do, but it's still bare bones.
Some games also have a 3d image of some sort on the front, but this is just a plain gold colored picture with the name of the game. They definitely saved some money on the packaging.:)

Quite a few Target stores sold them early today it seems. Apparently an email was sent out to stop the sales later in the afternoon.

Import the Greek version :p

No manual is pretty effed up. I don't really want to pick this up at all except for the OST :/

Ugh, what to do...

That's how they get you. Might as well give up your money.

Alright, the foldout looks better than I expected. But still, a bit sad that the 25th anniversary edition they give you less shit. I'll wait and see what the supplies for the OST are like.

I can't get to a K-Mart, and $40 for it at GameStop is a bit of a stretch for me (unless the OST will cover the expense). Maybe I'll GameFly it instead and play it over the 4th of July weekend when I'm camping >.>

Just a second there, professor.
Yo, they put it on the foldout! Maybe it doesn't say "edition," but it's coming out this year, so this and Skyward Sword count :)

Ooops! I think my pictures don't show that properly. There're 3 items made of paper in there:
1. The foldout map/instruction booklet.
2. A 2 page gold color foldout that makes mention of it being the 25th anniversary of Zelda. It also invites you to purchase Skyward sword, and the new games coming to the Eshop (just advertising really).
3. The typical registration card for Nintendo games.

It's definitely some of the cheapest packaging they've ever used for a Zelda game. That said, at least the wrap had the typical y-fold. A nice change from the 'Gamestop wrapped this in the back', that we've seen on some of these 3ds games.
it isnt that bad from the 3-4 pages "manual" that some publishers now inculde
Yeah but Nintendo didn't do the 3-4 page crap.
