Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread
Nope, actual NES games: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/3ds/ambassador/detail.html#fc

Super Mario Bros.
The Legend of Zelda
Balloon Fight
Ice Climber
Donkey Kong Jr.
Yoshi's Cookie
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Metroid
NES Open Tournament Golf
Wrecking Crew

REALLY thought they'd release Kid Icarus.
Really solid list there.

I'm also a bit disappointed that there's no Icarus, but I'm sure it'll be released pretty soon. Like it was mentioned earlier, they're probably holding back for Uprising. Oh well. Never played Wrecking Crew or the Golf one, but really excited for the others. Thursday should be fun :)
Is it Yoshi or Yoshi's Cookie? I've seen another site or two report that it's Yoshi.
I had a copy of this when I was a kid, that copy was most assuredly Yoshi's Cookie(as was my GB copy).

There is an NES puzzle game with the name "Yoshi", too. (I own it.)

Both are decent puzzle games.

The only thing I'm not looking forward to with that offering is downloading all ten of those games individually. I know I'll play a bunch of SMB, Zelda, Zelda II, Balloon Fight, and Metroid. The rest are mostly unknowns for me.

Is that really cheap wine or a really awesome pencil????
Yes, yes, and a carrot.

Mallowchan probably never got past the first level, what would he know.

Ah, you're right! I had no idea that one even existed.

Well, my suspicions/fears have been confirmed. Playing NES games on the 3DS' small screen is pretty much useless. I kills my eyes looking at a Mario/Link/Samus the size of an ant. These games were meant to played on screens much larger than the 3DS' vertical space allows.

They released some of these games on the GBA and they were fine. Although the problem I have is the d-pad on the 3DS. It's a bit too stiff for these games, so I have to use the Slide Pad.

I hope Nintendo adds a cart system in the future.

Yeah, but those GBA versions were optimized for a smaller screen with larger sprites, and altered aspect ratios. I wasn't really bothered be the d-pad before today, lol. The position of it is what's getting to me.
That only mentions 5 of the 10 for NA. So I guess half of the list is confirmed to be the same.
The other 5 were confirmed previously. I'm not going to dig up a link for that too, since they're all out now anyway. Enjoy!

Tried it out for a bit early this morning. I can see fine on the NES games. I'm glad they looks so clean. And they actually show more pixels vertically than previous emulations.

Nice diversion. Hope more games arrive soon.

Played a bit of Zelda 2 for nostalgia since it was one of my first NES games. Are there any tips for saving besides suiciding? Makes it not ideal for a pick-up-and-play type of game.

Pause and Push Up+A on the Second controller.

I have no idea where you attach the second controller.

- hold L and R
- then press Y
- do this while in-game
- this allows you to change between Player 1 and Player 2 on some games

Thanks! I'll try that tonight.

The screen size was fine with me it's SD in the first place. Letterboxing can't really be helped unless you still own a 4:3 TV :D.
I really hope this doesn't ruin the chances of Zero Mission being one of the remaining five GBA games.
Search you feelings, you know it's not going to happen.

Just hope for Mother 3.

Thanks for the info on Kid Icarus Javery. Doesn't sound bad at all.
Gonna have to beat it to prove Strell wrong.

Also, interesting tidbit about Zelda 1 I read at GAF.
Fun Fact: The Wii VC version of Zelda 1 is actually the same version released as the Classic NES series on the GBA, with the 1986-2004 Copyright notice and proper English. The 3DS VC version however, is the original NES version with all the broken English.

Played a little Mario earlier. Gotta say, the buttons aren't as "soft" as I like for the retro experience, but I did play with a happy smile on my face as I jumped through the warp zones. :D

Just push the Home button and click on Close. That's how I've been saving my games.

Anyone see this? http://www.1up.com/news/fatal-frame-team-reveals-shinrei

Keisuke Kikuchi, producer and chief mind behind the Fatal Frame series of Japanese-style horror adventures, is back with a new project. Titled Shinrei Camera, the game -- a co-production involving both Nintendo and Kikuchi's studio at Tecmo -- will use the Nintendo 3DS's augmented-reality abilities to enhance the horror experience.

The 3DS title will come backed with an "AR notebook," a book which seems normal and harmless enough to the naked eye. Point your 3DS's camera at it in-game, though, and it'll reveal all sorts of things lurking in the pages -- hidden messages, clues to your past, even a hungry demon or two.

I felt the same way. It felt a little weird when I began playing Super Mario Bros and the buttons had that "clicky" feeling.

From Kotaku:

Before the Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo is holding a press conference. Previously, it was revealed that 3DS-related event was called the "Nintendo Conference". That's not the whole story. The event is actually called "Nintendo 3DS Shinseihin Happyoukai" (ニンテンドー3DS 新製品発表会). "Shinseihin" (新製品) means "new product" or even "new product line", while "happyoukai" (発表会) is a more innocuous "presentation".

Yeah. This is getting insane. Also L-O-L at Kotaku saying new games would be a letdown.

These rumors are getting silly. "New product" would mean this supposed "big huge game" being announced.

If a redesign appears, it would be ....I don't even know what it would be.

Agreed. My first thought was something along the lines of a Touch Generations being released for 3DS.

That's NOT to say that I think we'll necessarily see more casual games or 'training' games. What I mean to say is that I can envision Nintendo launching a series of themed or focused games or software that really showcase where they want the 3DS going.

The most obvious choices for the game announcement are Dragon Quest X and Monster Hunter Whatever. MH kept the PSP viable against the DS almost entirely by itself for the last several years, at least in Japan. I'm pretty sure Nintendo recognizes that, so they want to get the game on the 3DS to even the score. Capcom, however, absolutely wants it to be multiplatform, and probably has doubts about the 3DS's future. So that's a tough sell as an exclusive. Squeenix though might have every reason to take DQX to the 3DS, depending on how well it succeeded on the DS (which I don't know offhand).

So I dunno. I can wait two weeks.

IIRC it was something like 3.3 million at full retail and a hair under 4 if you include price drops + greatest hits. I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree on that one and say it's staying on Wii though. Horii has made his intent loud and clear and when he speaks, the Japanese industry listens. There's also the matter of the DQX trailer being included on the DQ collection disc. The DQVIII trailer was included on the DQV PS2 remake in order to help push copies and build hype. Of course, anything is possible. I'm just saying it would be a big break from tradition.

I could definitely see Battle Road (DQ card game spinoff) coming to the 3DS as an exclusive with AR functionality. The Wii version bomba'd but a portable version would do fucking insane numbers. It's also big enough to merit a press conference and would be different enough to be a 'new product.' Personally I'd love to see the battles from Battle Road being acted out in miniature form on my desk. I passed on the Wii version but I guarantee you I'd have a stockpile of cards if there was a 3DS version. DQVII 3DS remake would also be pretty mindblowing.

Just a corollary to that Monster Hunter note. There were STRONG rumors that Capcom was planning on bringing TriG to 3DS before the analog stick thing gained traction. In MH terms, TriG would be something like an expansion pack to Tri (the Wii game) as opposed to the 'portable' series on PSP. I'm a series fan (from Portable a2nd G on) and I have to say a Tri G 3DS announcement would make me pretty happy. Personally I flip flopped on the Wii but I put in a lot of hours on the G port and Tri (even though it was a little easy).

As I was typing this, a poster on GAF pointed out that this could be a conference leading to a series of AR card specific games. This would also make me pretty happy.

These won't set the gaming world on fire. At all. It would be E3 200X all over again with GBA-GC connectivity against XBL. If someone is at Nintendo calling the shots and thinks this is the answer, there's some bad juju.

Could just be a conference for the Wii U, although I doubt it as Nintendo wants to focus all their efforts on the 3DS right now. New product line, could mean software or hardware. So, it could be a new franchise they are putting out.
