Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread
I've stayed out of the "OMG we have to have a second analog pad" debate because I didn't feel like getting shouted down, but I don't see where the second analog pad would go either. Making the 3DS bigger would not make it better for a lot of people who really do use it as a portable device, and many (most?) games just don't need it. I haven't been able to figure out why people have been yelling about it so much.
Wouldn't it just be laid out like a 360 controller? Seems like there would be room.
Wouldn't it just be laid out like a 360 controller? Seems like there would be room.
There might be room, but I can't imagine it would be very comfortable to use it if the case stayed the current size.
I think I might have the floppy hinge problem. The top half moves slightly weather it be open or closed. I really enjoy playing my 3DS, I'm almost done completing all the mirror cups on mario kart 7 just 2 more and I started playing Final Fantasy the 4 heros of light on it. I am okay with the DS backwards compatibility and though the faded colors are dull at least its a nice extra since I missed a lot of good DS titles. I have notice that wifi doesnt work at all on DS games on 3DS is there a way around this or not? I was thinking bout picking up pokemon black
WiFi for DS games still work just fine on the 3DS. You have to remember though, DS games ONLY support WEP encryption. And you have to set it up from the separate Nintendo DS Communications option in the Internet Settings. The 3DS' own internet settings do nothing for DS titles.

Personally, the 3DS is already too big to comfortably fit in my pocket. It is just as portable to me as the DSi XL. So if the redesign is bigger, it could fit the second circle pad, a larger battery and have larger screens and still be portable to me. I would like that.

Also, Nintendo currently sells 3 different models of the DS. I don't see why that couldn't happen to the 3DS.
I'm more curious where L2 and R2 would fit into a redesign.
This interests me too. I don't think it has been noticed much by others yet, but the circle pad adds extra shoulder buttons too. Either the base would need to be thicker to place them on top of each other or they could be side by side like on the orignal Wii classic controller.

Pokemon Black & White work with WPA on the DSi and 3DS. I'm not sure if there are other DS games that support WPA too.

It's an exception though since that game features a specific DSi mode.

May have been mentioned on a few pages back, but HeartGold and SoulSilver are unplayable on the 3DS since it uses the DS clock function. The game does not play in night mode, ever!

Thanks for posting this, I was thinkin about starting HG on my 3DS but now I'll just play on my DSi.
can't believe the damn eurpoeans are getting kid icarus for free. maybe we will on the tenth.
I look at it this way, we get a lot more CAG opportunities that easily out shine a copy of kid icarus for free.

Wow, I didn't know this at all, thanks for letting me know since I play a ton of pokemon games. If I end up getting a 3DS ever I won't use it for these games.

Kind of odd. I was thinking of starting up pokemon platinum soon. Does that suffer from the same issue do you know? Tried google and it didn't really help.

What?? What deal is this referring too. Must have been out of the loop.

I finally got a 3DS! Well, I finally opened one of the two systems that have been in my basement for a month... I bought 2 from Target.com for $250 shipped before Christmas not sure if I wanted it or not. Anyway, I returned one system to a local Target for $125 so I basically got my system for $125. Pretty good price, IMO. I don't have any games for it yet though since they were all out of Mario 3D Land or whatever it is called. I hope I don't regret this but Mario and Zelda should keep me busy for a while even though there aren't any other games out right now that I think I'd like. Not a fan of Mario Kart or Star Fox although I'd pick up Star Fox for $10 if it ever got that cheap.

So what else does this thing do? I never had a DSi so I've never taken one of these things online (both of my kids do but we've never bothered with the online stuff). Can I link it up to my Wii somehow for Miis and to my account which has $20 in there that I'll never use? The AR Cards are neat - can you get additional cards somewhere? So much to learn... hahaha...

I've been playing Tetris Axis all the time lately. I put 18 hours into the "Shadow" mode and now and discovering other modes I like. Currently, it is CPU battle. Maybe if I get good enough, I'll battle someone online.

Still playing Pushmo too. I'm in the 2nd set of levels under Bonus Pushmo. 218 or something? I'm on the windmill level. That game has taken over 2nd place on my most played games. Zelda 3d is #1 with 56 hours.

you can link/sync you mii's from your wii to your 3DS. there's a tutorial on your 3DS on how to do it. If you do however create a mii on your 3DS first it will be your default mii for some reason and you have to get creative in how to swap it out for the one you originally created on your wii.

i don't recall if they have any other AR cards, it's basically just a feature that isn't really explored outside of the AR mini games currently bundled in your 3DS. sad...because it has a lot of potential. I do believe there are some games like nintendogs + cats (Great game) that lets you view your puppy/kitten via AR card as well.

the 3DS has a lot of potential and use, just not a lot of users take advantage of the features because their smart phone or other handheld devices seem to do the same and since phones are generally always on...it's just easier to use.

The online is pretty straight forward. Just connect to your network. When you do you can download Pokedex 3D for free and as long as you stay connected, you'll get 3 new Pokemon a day(SpotPass). Also, there is SwapNote and Four Swords available for free too. If you aren't already, I recommend using the docking station. This way you can always keep your 3DS on so you can take full advantage of the SpotPass features (download content from the internet). Unfortunately, those Wii points stay on the Wii.

Lastly, look into Pushmo. It's $7 on the eShop and is one of the best 3DS games you can buy. If you do, check out the Pushmo thread here on CAG where you can find plenty of user created puzzles.

I thought playing DS games locks you out of pedometer use while in sleep mode? Either I remembered wrong or the latest update made that possible now.
I thought playing DS games locks you out of pedometer use while in sleep mode? Either I remembered wrong or the latest update made that possible now.
No, you're right... It did lock that stuff out. I'm assuming that's fixed now?

Yeah, I was playing Chrono Trigger the other day before I closed my 3DS and went out, but I forgot to exit out and noticed when I got back that I had a bunch of steps for that day.
I thought it always counted steps during DS mode. It was just the StreetPass stuff that didn't work.
Could be, I know streetpass was locked out, but I thought I remembered the pedometer feature not working if it was in DS mode. I could be wrong, though. :shrugs:

Actually, I think you were right because I just checked my 3DS (which was in standby mode with a DS game) and when I exited the game it said I had zero steps today even though it would normally say at least 200 or 300 from my walk to my car and into work. So based on that, I'm pretty sure it doesn't record steps when in DS standby mode (unfortunately for me).

Free piece of plastic bundled with the new Kid Icarus.

From what I've seen, too, this uses the touchscreen pretty vigorously... so a stable base will help keep the 3D from becoming an issue. I have no problem maintaining the sweet spot for the 3D in something like MarioKart or Zelda, but I'm not so sure about a game where I'm always holding the system with one hand and poking the screen with a stylus.

I guess the DS had something similar but given that you can't use that stand along with the Circle Pad or the Nyko battery add-on, I can't help but feel a little tired of 3DS peripherals.

Just solved the Windmill puzzle...that stumped me for a good while. I have to say I'm impressed with how the creators came up with such puzzles where you have to navigate around a lot.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions stands atop my Activity Log at 96 hours. Yes, I took my time to collect all 999 figurines... *groans*

I was working on this, but I've taken a break to "play" Nintendogs. DoA is great, but it's a real bitch trying to get so many freakin' statues.
Anybody played Zen Pinball yet ? Any impressions?
I downloaded it on Thursday. First off, its a huge download for 3DS standards (over 500 blocks) so set aside some time to let it download. I've only played one of the boards so far (Excalibur) but it was pretty good. This is my first Zen Pinball experience but I can certainly see why there's so much fondness for it. The physics are excellent, the camera works really well in terms of zooming and the 3D effect works pretty well also. Overall, despite only putting about 30-45 minutes in it so far I'm more than happy with my purchase of it.

So after being hacked on xbox live I'm wary about putting in my CC info... is there a way to buy points that can be redeemed like on XBL? I think I want to get Pushmo but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it.

Anyone else looking forward to Sakura Samurai? It should be on the eShop either this week or the next.
nice. I didn't see them at TRU earlier but I obviously wasn't looking
TRU also has 10% off cards this week too. Pushmo is awesome! Be sure to check out the Pushmo thread here on CAG for extra puzzles if you do decide to get it.

After finally getting around to opening Nintendogs and holding the system in generally the same way that Kid Icarus would require, I understand the stand even more now. It's weirdly uncomfortable with Nintendogs, let alone a game that's pretty intense in terms of movement and aiming.

On that note, this is the first Nintendogs I've played, and jesus... that game is just impossibly cute.

Picked up another 3ds card at Kmart with my mario kart $15 coupon. The only games I'm really interested in right now is the 3d classic Kid Icarus and Mutant Mud. Hopefully, those two will be out soon.

Finished the windmill and got stuck on Moai Statues for a couple days. Now, I'm on the bonus challenges and the challenge levels were always my least favorite. Might be a while before I finish.
Hadn't heard of this, but after watching the trailer, I'm thinking it'll be mine. Looks right up my alley in terms of cute-factor.
I'm guessing it'll probably come out next week since we are getting demos on the eShop this week, starting with Resident Evil Revelations.

Oh cool, I didn't know you could buy those points cards with Kmart credit.

Anyone know...do the Nintendo/DSi cards work on the 3DS too?

I *HATE* activation, but...at least Nintendo fixed the 3DS so you can move games around all you want, right? Can you redownload games onto a new system you own too?

If so that's WAY better than the Wii's situation, and makes me feel better about spending money that way.

I mean, I am CRAZY tempted by half the Gameboy games on that shop. I don't own Super Mario Land 2, and man do I want to...

Only the 3DS cards will work on the 3DS eShop. The Wii and DSi still use the old Nintendo Point Cards, which DO NOT work with the 3DS.

I think the only 3DS cards that are available right now are the $20 dollar ones. I've seen both the regular ones (with the 3DS pictured on it), as well as a Zelda one.
wtf is that? What, for those who find it hard to hold the system with their hands or some shit? Seriously?
you know...so long as it doesn't increase the cost of the game, i'll take a display unit for my 3DS. only down side is, i'm sure it's not compatiable with my protector case.

Yes, you can redownload anything you have in "Your Downloads" found in eShop's Settings...be it games, apps, videos, etc...even Ambassador freebies...on your new 3DS. When you perform a system transfer, you perform a COMPLETE system transfer. Nintendo lets you do 5 system transfers per account.

Can you do that with demo units? the 3DS demo unit has the ambassador games on it already. I always wondered if you can transfer a demo unit into another 3DS so you can get the games that way.
