[IMG-R=5838]24198[/IMG-R]According to a trusted source, Walmart will be dropping the price of the Nintendo 3DS on August 9th, 3 days before the official drop takes effect. This means savvy shoppers will be able to get the new low price and the 20 free downloadable games available as a reward to early adopters of the 3DS. Just connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11 to qualify for the free games.

A friend of mine works at walmart. I will check with her to see if prices drop at midnight so you could just slip in there at night and get it as soon as the price drops. Or could buy early and do a rebuy on the 9th at your convenience.
What are the chances that this is just an ad typo?

The units may be in stock that day but not available to process for sale -- for $170. I wonder if they will be stickered with the "DO NOT SELL before 8/12" notice.

We shall see.
You realize that CheapyD is the OP, right?

I doubt Walmart of any store would pay their employees to put DO NOT SELL stickers on the 3DSs that they already have at the store.

I am really considering getting this now. The price and free games is probably the best deal the 3DS will get this year. Once parents begin shopping for Xmas there is probably going to be a huge demand for them and no need for any more deals.

Pretty awesome! Now I just gotta find a place with Wi-Fi, pretty sure the local Starbucks and McDonalds may have it.

This is pretty tempting, but I just know Nintendo will roll out an improved re-design soon afterward.

Pretty much. Isn't that why they redesigned the DS Phat? Because it was gigantic and didn't sell well? I keep changing my mind-- it's annoying. :hot:

I dont know guys... seems your going to be waiting a while for the 3ds lite. :/

^^
this is an excerpt from an iwata asks episode and they claim the system is "fully packed from the start"

plus they mention that they couldn't make the 3ds lighter anyway because the components are as small as they can possibly be (right now) but i do wish they would re design the 3ds to have a better battery even if they cant shrink anything.

I dont know their opinion on a redesign might be different now that there are different circumstances.

Yeah I don't think an improved version will come out any faster than it took the ds lite to be introduced (1.5 years). A lot of good games should get released within that timeframe, so I'm probably buying a 3ds, even though I heard that the battery life is poor.

So does Wal-mart do price guarantees? If I buy one this weekend, can I return for the price guarantee on Tuesday?

This is tempting, but I'm not ready to jump onto the 3DS. More interested in the DSiXL than the 3DS. It would be nice DSi owners could get in on this free games for early adopters program.

7 days for their price adjustment policy, and 15 days for returns/exchanges.

If you are past the 7 days for the price adjustment, you can return AND rebuy your same 3DS if you aren't a dolt with your wording/irateness to the customer service clerk. The associates sometimes even encourage their customers to do it that way as there is nothing that can stop them otherwise, and it makes it easier for them so they don't have to do a package check.

Actually, depending on the item, if the clerk is following policy, they cannot allow you to return the system and then rebuy it past the 7-day price adjustment policy.

Select items that are returned (generally, electronics with internal memory) are not supposed to be resold (remember all those stories of parents buying electronics for their kids, only to find them pre-loaded with porn?). That's not to say it doesn't happen and that's not to say most clerks wouldn't just resell it to you. But, technically, by the letter of the policy, they wouldn't be allowed to resell you the same unit.
Where did all the members saying, "The people that go to Wal-Mart to buy this and get the 20 free games are just a bunch of crooks and thieves!" go?
They're busy checking their bank accounts for the 9th.

This should be interesting to watch unfold because it does give Walmart an unfair advantage, similar to street dates. This is an unprecedented situation though, so I'm not sure what to make of it.

Awesome deal for anyone remotely interested. I got an awesome deal at launch, but the free gAmes and the price with zero hassle on matching and refunding. Recommend picking up Zelda and street fighter, I also enjoyed pilot wings. The list of games from the online shop are many now too.

Believe me, they'd rather have the customer return and rebuy the same unit in the same transaction than to have an electronics associate bring another one to the front and do a package check.

It saves them a lot of work and they don't have to waste a potential unit that they can sell.

Very tempting. My only concern is waiting for a lite version or not... I want the 20 free plus games but I hate the idea of only having a battery life of 3-5 hours... Much to think about... Can I download the 20 games and switch them to another future 3ds lite in the future or is it a only download once and only per 3DS?

Just to clarify for myself (and being relatively new here, hopefully I'm not breaking any rules/stepping on any toes for asking this):

Sales receipts print with the serial number unique to the 3DS unit sold? As in you can't return one unopened, factory sealed unit in place of another unit?

I'd like to get in on the 20 free games action, but I'm having a hard time convincing myself to pay out of pocket for a 3DS when I have enough in Amazon gift certs to cover the purchase. Granted, if I recall correctly, Walmart employees are usually less than fastidious when inspecting their returns . . .

That is correct.

Well, it's your own fault for relying too much on Amazon, and the least associates at Walmart have to do is make sure that the serial numbers match on the box, 3DS unit itself, AND the receipt.

I'd agree with you if those gift certificates mentioned weren't, you know . . . gifts. If anything, it's my fault that it isn't worth it to me to pay out of pocket for a 3DS.

Then don't pay out of pocket.

My current original model DS only gets a little over 30 minutes before the low battery indicator turns red, so it's a huge step up for me to not have to take the charge cable everywhere with it.
The battery life is even worse than the "3-5" people keep spouting, even with WiFi, 3D, and Spot Pass off.
This is not accurate. If you are not getting at least 3 hours even with the WiFi off, not using the 3D, and the backlight on it's lowest setting you have a faulty unit. Return it and get a properly functioning one.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but Costco already dropped the price (not my pic)

edit: looks like this is canada only

I cancelled my order with Amazon last night, so I will definitely be at my Walmart Tuesday. I may show up around midnight and check it out. Getting the free games is a huge incentive to be tired as hell at work on Tuesday.

Extremely tempting, but the short battery life bothers me...considering I bought a DSi from a friend for $50 a few month ago, I think I can wait on the 3DS. Didn't Nyko or somebody release some battery extension accessory??
I'm really tempted by this now, but are the free games really worth it?
Look at it this way. If you are planning on buying the system this year this is probably the best deal you are going to find. The GBA games are all top notch and according to Nintendo they are ambassador only or not going to be available for some time. With the price drop and demand the holiday season is going to bring I don't see many deals being available until next year. The year the DS launched I think the only deals were the Mario Kart and Nintendogs Bundles and I think they were more expensive than the regular versions.

Already have my personal 3DS. Was considering buying one for the kids, but wasn't up to dealing with the price-match play. May do this if I can get by a WalMart in time to do it. Thanks, CheapyD!

i did see somewhere that nintendo said you have to log on before 12 am going into august 11th for the free games to show up for you in the estore on september 1st. fyi

Yeah, I got some message on my 3DS welcoming me to the Ambassador program not too long after logging in.

Looks like I'm heading to Target tomorrow for this. Using my Redcard to save 5%, then walking over to the service desk to pay $180. Price adjustment on 8/12 puts my balance at zero (or less than zero depending on how they take the 5% red card deduction from the $250) and I got the games.

It seems that there is no complete list yet and you don't get 20 games right away. An article on kotaku dated July 28th basically says that on Sept 1st you can get 10 games. That list will be NES games and will include Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda. Then sometime later in 2011 there will be the list of the Game Boy Advance games and you can select 10 more games. Such games included would be Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc.: Minigame Mania and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

I dunno...I'm a 38 year old retro gamer and I legitly have all of the Nintendo games listed here and it's not a big deal for me to be to rebuy them even for free on a new system. They would have to contain new updates as I probably won't play them as I already played these to death over my 30 years of gaming. I know I'll get a 3DS someday, but that day will be when the new Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Paper Mario or Luigi's Mansion 2 comes out. From what I understand those games are still ages away and my 3DS would simply sit and collect dust until then.

What's sad is that when I tested the 3DS demo machine out at Walmart, I discovered that I cannot use the 3D feature on this. I have a lazy left eye and it's incredibly hard for me to focus for very long to see the 3D. In fact I often have to close my lazy eye just to read books, which is quite embarrassing out in public. So I need to put it to the 2D mode and when I do that, it feels like just another DS to me and I was so dissappointed. But if the games came out that I wanted, I would have gladly paid $250 for it as I'm just that impulsive to play my top fav Nintendo games.

So how likely is it that nintendo will put out a new 3ds bundle around black friday? Possibly with a new color/included game (like mario kart 7, super mario 3d land, zelda oot 3d etc.)

I can see them going with a forest green 3DS bundle for OOT possibly around that time, but I honestly can't really see them doing any other bundles.

oooo forest green would be such a cool color on the 3ds.
Black 3DS has screen wobble (The one I got has it a little). It's annoying, but not that big of a deal imo
Is this a known difference? (black vs blue?)
Is this a known difference? (black vs blue?)
Apparently, amazon temporarily pulled the cosmo black 3ds from their website not too long ago because of these hinge problems.

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetrev...-black-nintendo-3ds-over-hinge-concerns/26488

Also heres a poll conducted over at gbatemp about screen wobble.

http://gbatemp.net/t287596-black-vs-blue-hinge-wobble

I dont know it seems weird that on the poll more people have a black 3ds with no wobble than people with a blue 3ds with no wobble. This definitely goes against most reports and amazons decision to stop selling it for a couple days.
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet (please forgive me if it has!), but Amazon has it up as a pre-order at the new price point, guess they wait to deliver it until August 12

I cancelled my pre order there because my estimated delivery was the 17th. I'm a Prime member too. I'm really hoping its in Walmart's ad tomorrow so I can pretty much go anywhere and price match if its sold out at Walmart.
