Nintendo DSi and DSi XL Out Now. "3DS" Showing at E3

I just bought the full Master of Illusion game for $6, I'm not rushing out to get pieces of it for $2 200 points each. If I ever buy Mixed Messages, I'll buy it around a holiday when enough people will be around to enjoy it with.

I just got my brand new black dsi and i have to say the camera is kinda cool (huge novelty item though).
Thank you Strell. I appreciate you being nice. Maybe the reason this Gamestop is more "strict" is because it's in a high-end shopping center and connected to a Barnes and Noble and has lots of traffic. Maybe I'll check around for one on the outskirts with a manager that looks to be still in high school that I might be able sway with some stealthy mom moves! Just kidding! But from what I've read here, GS isn't consistent so I'll keep looking, it's worth the $70.
For what it's worth, GS and all other trade-in stores (in most states, anyway, and it may vary) are required to have serial numbers because of pawn laws. Ie, they need to be able to track stolen merchandise and scratching off serial numbers is something petty thieves do. Unfortunately, it is also something little kids do ;). In any case, I doubt you will have much luck at any other GS (or any other chain for that matter). I have witnessed at least a few DS's being rejected recently myself and this is just as a casual shopper hanging out in the store for a few minutes at a time.

But if you can peel the sticker from one and put it on the other go for it - there's no way they'd know or care, really, if you did that. I would be a bit concerned with it not sticking on the new one but you could use Strell's suggestion of packing tape and if they ask just say you put it there so the number wouldn't wear off (as it happened to you before).

Speaking of the DSi, I suppose I should open the one I got from GS. But damn, I waited a bit too long - today is 30 days so if there is anything grossly wrong with it (like stuck/dead pixels) I guess I'm stuck going through Nintendo vs Gamestop. And I guess there's some sort of overpriced download nonsense going on these days? When I bought it the GS guys had no clue what, if anything, was going to be available ;). I guess I should read up on it, but downloading stuff on a DS is about #87 on the list of things I need to do these days. Though with my 360 and Wii being sent in for repairs simultaneously I suppose I could give it a spin. But then I do still have the PS3 :whistle2:k...

Couldn't you return the unopened one you have and buy another one, giving you another 30 days?

Just got one of these tonight. Traded my DSLite and my BF's dslite and a CRAP LOAD of games and we both walked out with one :bouncy:

I got the blue one and it IS kind of sexy. I love the matte finish. No more glossy! YAY!
The camera and sound recorder--where it is useless--is pretty neat. I can't see myself using it much, but it's def neat. I do like how the DSi is more set up like a Wii.

Have any retail games been announced specifically for the DSi? ..Or like..use features from the DSi?

I traded in the my DS Lite too for a blue one. Not sure I want blue or black now. Might have to exchange it. I think with black it could look like a mini thinkpad (I like thinkpads) and I could probably have it at work to mess around with. Blue would stand out too much at work.

There's some cookbook-like software that will have 10 extra recipes if you're using it with a DSi.

i just wish that white was released in the US. For me, i was torn between the black dsi and the white dsl (simply because it was white). But i got the dsi since it was the newer model.

Just bought the DS from the Borders Perk thing for $100 (after $70 cashback) and I have to say that I am enjoying this iteration of the DS a lot. Sure its almost similar to the DS Lite but whats here makes it superior. The design of the DSi feels more comfrtable in my hands and the buttons seem more responsive (clicky too!)

One thing I instantly love is the new matte finish on these things. No more fingerprints/oil and dirt smudges!

So Im glad I made the purchase. The missing Advance slot doesnt really affect me since I have an advance SP that is still pretty brand new and hardly played with (got it free from an arcade game machine about 2 years back)

Ummm..Sorry if this has been asked/answered.
But the DSi has a system/friend code too?!?

Went:
System Settings -> Internet -> Options -> System Information
..and I see Nintendo WFC ID with a 16 digit number.

What is this number for?

Gah! My one complaint is with the web browser, no Flash support! How am I supposed to watch my por...I mean Youtube videos!

Blame Adobe for that one... Adobe hasn't released the specs for the last 2 (or perhaps 3) versions of Flash. As such, only Adobe can provide Flash plugins and Adobe cant make them work consistently on Windows or OS X let alone and sort of mobile device.

I want a white DSi badly. Im waiting on E3 for an announcement of more colors. If there is no announcement then Im going for the black DSi.

I bought a used one to try out a few weeks back. Its pretty cool except the power button is not exactly the best design since its sensitive as hell and the slightest tap will bring you out of the game and into the main menu and also some of my game cartridges seem to have a hard time popping in and out of the slot smoothly, but only like 15-20 of them were doing that, so i guess not terrible. The size is incredible and the new screen is definitely a noticeable upgrade. Cant wait until this comes down a bit and they fix some of the initial problems with it that comes with every release, i.e. power button, curses T____T

Yeah the power button location sucks and battery life isn't nearly as good. My DS Lite's battery lasted extremely long. I wish they didn't reduce the capacity of the battery since it now also has to handle bigger & brighter screens.

I love the texture though. I didn't like the old acrylic casings.

Here's my new netbook.

ThinkPadiSeries.jpg

My power button was not sensitive at all. I found it to work as expected. It also doesn't just dump you to the main menu. It prompts you to answer yes if you wish to go to the menu.

I haven't had any issues with the power button. I did worry about that, but it hasn't happened in practice.

I think it's odd that the only way to adjust screen brightness in-game is by holding down select and pressing volume up/down. It's great to be able to adjust brightness in-game, but how many people are going to figure out how to do it? Moreover there isn't a brightness control in the main menu like the DS Lite had, so I imagine that most people think you can't adjust screen brightness at all! They should have had separate brightness button(s) like the GBA SP had.
Here's hoping nintendo announces OG GB games for DSiWare @ E3.... if true, I'll finally have a reason to get a DSi.
PictoBits is a pretty good reason right now, as are the various improvements over the DS Lite, but, yeah, we're all hoping for that.

I'm not going to lie here. I thought I was done with Nintendo but I'm chomping at the bit for DQIX as well as the remakes. Is there going to be a DQ special edition DSi in the future that's worth holding out for?

I want to a Dsi as a high school graduation gift, but before I ask for one i have a question. The Dsi battery is 850mah and on Ebay and other stores they have larger mah batteries. Can I buy one of those and put it in the DSi and it will fit fine?

Can't you adjust the brightness through the options menu? I didn't find it that hard to find, but of course I'm one of those people who likes to look at all the settings you can do. Didn't know about adjusting the brightness via the volume up and down. I need to read the manual at some point.

You can, but he said "in-game." You can't get to the options menu while playing. I think compared to the DS Lite where you couldn't change brightness while playing at all, this is a great improvement.

Same. I'd like to get in on those free 1000 points but I'm not going to take the plunge unless there's a portable Virtual Console involved.

OK, so I want a case.

"DSi System Wallet" from BD&A
$9.99

I kinda like this one. Reviews say it's a really nice and snug fit case. Only holds 3 games, but, I never needed to have THAT many with me. I mean, 1 game in the system + 3 more..how many more do you need?!

"DSi Compact Case" from Hori
$9.99

I had the DS Lite compact case from Hori for the longest time. I can't find it right now, I liked it. It was soft and had enough space for a few games (and GBA games). This one looks like you have more protection of the games..and can hold an extra stylus

This looks like.. it's the same thing...but with like.. a leather, or just fancier outside? :nottalking:

"DSi Voyager" by BD&A
$14.99

This is.. sorta neat. I personally don't know how I feel about holders that you play the system in. I don't know. It just feels like it's not the same. But I'm weird. It's also sexy leather and holds a few games, too.

..and 2 links for Dallow

Part of me is leaning on the System Wallet.. :whistle2:k
But you can never go wrong with Hori..

My DSi will always says there is an update available when I go to check. Then after the user agreement page it says the system is up to date and shuts it down.

I've got this one... I've been very happy with it. If you're just looking for a case to keep the scratches off, this is the one. It *is* a bit bulky, however, so if you're looking to keep it in a pocket, may not be great.

Certainly keeps it safe while banging around in my briefcase all day.

I think I have that system wallet, but I bought mine at Gamestop and I don't know if it was actually that brand. It sure looks identical, though. At GS it was $12.99, though much less then that for me due to flips. Anyway, I really like it but it has a magnetic closure which has a pretty strong magnet in it, which is surprising. I don't know if magnets are a risk for things like credit cards and such these days or not, though. Otherwise, it's quite nice.

Went to Wal-Mart on the way home.. got a system wallet for $8.98!
I like it! It's a VERY snug fit...and the magnetic fold works REALLY well.

It's not too bulky, but, it's a case. It's not really supposed to be like.. stylish

Hey lilboo, thanks for the links.

I bought the system wallet today too actually!
Hmm, I haven't even tried it on yet.

I got it because it was cheap, and seemed to look the least obnoxious.
I like the tight sleek fit.

I still may get the flowery design I posted about before though. :p

I'm thinking of getting a DSi I still have my old DSphat so I thought it'd be good to upgrade. My question is how does the DSI feel? Is it like the DS or DSLite does it have a new feel to it?

I liked the DSLite I played a few games from my brother's the screen was nice, but there was alot of fingerprints on it so I'm hoping the DSI is less likely that I'd get finger print smudges or anything like that, but I guess that wouldn't be the problem since I wash my hands before playing on my DS I'm a clean freak when it comes to that.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Another DSi hybrid cart has been announced: Spidy
http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=84096

Its DSi functionality sounds pretty interesting; you can take pictures and use them to generate new levels. The graphical style is also pretty interesting, resembling something like Night Game or Patapon.

(Idolm@ster Dearly Stars was announced for Japan as another hybrid cart. It uses the DSi camera to scan QR codes.)

I've decided to get the compact DSI case I'm sure it'll be good since it's from Hori I picked the light blue color it sorta reminds me of the blue badger..

Protect Case DSi looks like more of a scratch protector than a case, but it might be good to get if I go and travel, but I think I'll wait on it to see more reviews of it since it might be hard to take the DSI out of it.

Thanks for the help I can't wait to play some games on the DSI I've been playing DSphat since it's release.

I ordered the cosmetic style one. My cousin has it for her ds lite, but its meant for the DSi. She has the pink/black one, I got the orange/white one. Hope it doesnt get too dirty

does anyone know where i can get a white replacement housing for the dsi (including the buttons)? i never truly liked my black dsi and was hoping i could make it white.

Picked up a like new condition DSi from eBay for $139.99. Free shipping, and came with the DS game Exit. Arrived in great shape. Already skinned it thanks to Decalgirl. Had a BLAST with the camera this weekend. My fiance, his mother, and I played with the camera some 45 minutes at a restaurant. On Sunday, my stepmother and father were highly amused by the Distort and Kalaidoscope effects. Great fun.

The person who owned the DSi before me already used the 1000 points bonus on Birds & Beans, that Clubhouse Games 5 card game assortment (what a waste, as I already own Clubhouse Games), and the silly Airplane Warioware game. I made up for this by buying Pictobits, but not much else interests me much. Perhaps Mighty Flip Champs? But that seems an awful lot like the upcoming game, Reflections.

While it's hard for me to justify the DSi to some folks, as the DS is my primary gaming platform, it was really a no-brainer for me. A camera and DSiWare are all I need to feel justified.
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the DSi save all camera pictures directly to the SD card and not to the system memory?
step 1) Insert sd card into dsi
step 2) Turn on dsi and click on the nintendo dsi camera application button thing
step 3) On the top right corner of the bottom screen you will see a button that reads SD card. Click it.
step 4) Click on the camera button on the bottom screen. Now all of your pictures should be saved on your SD card.:D

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I ended up looking up the answer on the Nintendo Tech Support forum a couple days after posting my question. ;)

On a different note, has anyone noticed any loading time changes with the DSi? I'm playing Pokemon Platinum (again), and it seems that everything takes just a wee bit longer on the DSi than the DS, such as going in and out of buildings and so forth. It seems as if it's simply mere seconds, but I keep noticing it and was wondering if anyone else has?

Does anyone use the web browser? I am trying to stall from getting an iTouch and am trying to use it, but it's really slow for sports scores and news.

Any recommendations for fast loading basic websites for up to date sports scores and news?
