Thank you Strell. I appreciate you being nice. Maybe the reason this Gamestop is more "strict" is because it's in a high-end shopping center and connected to a Barnes and Noble and has lots of traffic. Maybe I'll check around for one on the outskirts with a manager that looks to be still in high school that I might be able sway with some stealthy mom moves! Just kidding! But from what I've read here, GS isn't consistent so I'll keep looking, it's worth the $70.
For what it's worth, GS and all other trade-in stores (in most states, anyway, and it may vary) are required to have serial numbers because of pawn laws. Ie, they need to be able to track stolen merchandise and scratching off serial numbers is something petty thieves do. Unfortunately, it is also something little kids do

. In any case, I doubt you will have much luck at any other GS (or any other chain for that matter). I have witnessed at least a few DS's being rejected recently myself and this is just as a casual shopper hanging out in the store for a few minutes at a time.
But if you can peel the sticker from one and put it on the other go for it - there's no way they'd know or care, really, if you did that. I would be a bit concerned with it not sticking on the new one but you could use Strell's suggestion of packing tape and if they ask just say you put it there so the number wouldn't wear off (as it happened to you before).
Speaking of the DSi, I suppose I should open the one I got from GS. But damn, I waited a bit too long - today is 30 days so if there is anything grossly wrong with it (like stuck/dead pixels) I guess I'm stuck going through Nintendo vs Gamestop. And I guess there's some sort of overpriced download nonsense going on these days? When I bought it the GS guys had no clue what, if anything, was going to be available

. I guess I should read up on it, but downloading stuff on a DS is about #87 on the list of things I need to do these days. Though with my 360 and Wii being sent in for repairs
simultaneously I suppose I could give it a spin. But then I do still have the PS3
