I don't really think "older gamers" has anything to do with this. More likely they could get sweet deal on 4" screens than 3.25" ones they were using right now.
That's possible, but I think that's something they would've realized before they released the DSi. This is going to require some pretty significant re-engineering.
Going to be getting this on day 1 like I did with DSi

if gamestop ever has a promotion and they do come in some nice colors, I'll upgrade the wife's DSL to this 4" beauty.
I haven't decided because I like my GBA slot.
You guys might want to think about this a little, and consider whether it's worth it. This isn't as dumb as going from, say, a PSP 3000 to a PSPgo and losing all of your UMDs in the process...but it isn't much better, either. There's almost no benefit to the new hardware unless you're blind.
This is the kind of "upgrade" we're talking about. If you're too lazy to look at the link, the phone has giant buttons, bigger text and numbers, and a brighter screen, all in the name of accessibility. Those are all fine for a phone, but are horrible ideas for a portable system. A bigger screen and (potentially) bigger buttons mean a significantly bigger "handheld" system, which (as everybody in the PSPgo thread insisted) is a horrible thing for a device intended to be portable. A bigger screen with the same resolution (which is all this is going to be, unless Nintendo is interested in losing a bunch of customers who bought the first version of the DSi) means the graphics get stretched more than the developers intended, which can cause blockiness, pixelation, jagged edges, or any number of graphical maladies, depending on the game. A brighter screen would mean more power drawn, draining the batteries faster.
From the tiny bit we've heard so far, this is
NOT worth another $170, unless your goal is for your games to look
worse with no upsides to compensate. This is an alternative for Japan's large elderly population, nothing more...
and we still don't know if this will ever be released anywhere else. It wouldn't be the first time Japan's seen Nintendo hardware we haven't - Game Boy Light? 64DD? The Q?
