Nintendo E3 2010 Press Conference - 3DS, Kid Icarus, Zelda, DKC, Kirby!

I need to go watch this conference, now. It's an hour and a half right? I might be able to squeeze that in somehow soon. I can skip the G4 demos and stuff, I'll just read about those on their website or something.

I think it was 2 hours.
Watching the conference now. The swordplay in Zelda looks like crap. What's the deal with Link swinging when Miyamoto isn't swinging?
"Wireless interference," or it could just be that the wii isnt capable of true 1:1 motion.
"Wireless interference," or it could just be that the wii isnt capable of true 1:1 motion.
Yeah, saw that a little later as I was reading through this thread. Glad to know that the game doesn't normally control like garbage. Other than controls, it looks like fun.
really excited for paper mario 64
Based on the screens I don't think it's a remake of Paper Mario 64. Looks like a new game to me.

Things MIA/disappointments:

 • 3DS isn't 3G, given what I'm looking at. Not too surprised by this.
 • NBA Jam still has no online, and thus probably won't.
 • No mention of Pikkamans 3.
 • No word on Xenoblade (despite being present last year) or Last Story, as noted by our own Mrs. Curlo-Dillo.
 • Still no Mother/Earthbound (had zero hope for this).
 • No announcement of a portable VC (had zero hope for this).
 • No announcement of 3DS price or release.
 • "Delay" of Zelda Wii (only say delay in quotations because no date was ever announced, and at best was a hopeful fantasy based on Mario and Metroid coming out so quickly).
 • No announcement of any kind of license transfer tool.
 • No talk at all regarding "fixing" online/getting rid of FCs/etc.
 • No follow up information on Cosmic Walker (completely MIA), Fling Smash, Reginleiv, Line Attack Heroes, Hotel Dusk 2 (super sad), or Another Code Wii.

All I can think of for now.

The wiimote is definitely no move but I think it'll work better than they tried with demo.

I would think it would handle like Red Steel 2 (even though I haven't played it) since that's the only game that utilizes swords + wii motion plus.

I'm still waiting for them to come up with some sort of nunchuck plus where the nunchuck has an ir sensor like the wiimote and motion plus like capabilities. It would really help nintendo compete with games that use 2 move remotes.

While Link's sword moves "1:1" the shield still doesn't...

The lack of 3g was a touch surprising based upon previous comments that Nintendo thought it would be needed in the future. But 3G costs probably made it a non-starter for this generation.

Outright agreed on the other items.

You know, I guess I really wasn't expecting them to fix this. I think it'll take a whole new system line before we see improvements on these issues.

Think about this. Before today, we had never seen or even knew some of these existed:

Donkey Kong Country Returns
Epic Mickey
Kirby's Epic Yarn
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

AND they had all the 3DS stuff. How much can Nintendo own at one time?

We already knew a hell of a lot about Epic Mickey, and everyone knew about Skyward Sword and, for a first unveiling, it was a bit underwhelming. This coming from a LOZ fanatic.

RedSteel 2 picked up your slash directions and speed of swings pretty well but I'd think it control more like Sports Resort since it had more constant tracking. Like detecting a change in follow through and the return to resting movements.

I knew about Epic Monkey before and still have not yet watched this conference yet. Hoping to enjoy it tomorrow when I get home from school or watch it before I go to school tomorrow. :D Or even watch some now, lol.

Here's another live blog of the dev roundtable.

# 'Cats are a lot like girls. If they come talk to you, it's great, but if you go talk to them, it doesn't always go so well.' -Miyamoto

EDIT: As hinted at during the conference, they're also upgrading Tag mode. Now you can use Tag mode without having the game's cartridge in the slot.
6:26: Yeah, I took the DS barkmode and made it more popular. We built it right into the hardware this time. With the original game it was a little inconvenient: you couldn't play any other game while it was in Bark Mode. So with 3DS, we created a system, any game that you own will use the mode regardless of the game that's running. All games use it invisibly. My ambition: take your 3DS's with you and spread the wealth and use the feature.

I watched some of the videos at http://e3.nintendo.com/, having earlier watched most of the show. I came into the zelda demo late and just saw him struggling with the control, so I think that colored my opinion of it. Now watching the promo video, which presumably better represents the experience, I think it looks really awesome. Also, just as I thought, Kirby: An Epic Yarn looks amazingly awesome. That game looks so incredible. Beautiful, creative and it looks *so* fun. That would have to be my most anticipated from the show, now followed by Zelda. Then, of course, the 3DS, but without a release date I'm trying not to get too excited about it.

FYI, the 3D display on the 3DS is 800x240 widescreen. The bottom screen is 320x240. To give you perspective, the screens on the DS are 256 x 192, and the PSP is a single 480x272 widescreen display. Ah, but there's a catch. I am not an expert on this, but I do know that the 3D screen has 800 pixels across, but 400 of those are for the left eye and 400 and for the right eye. I presume that the effective resolution is then 400x240, albeit 3D, rather then 800x240. 800x240 would be an odd ratio, anyway. It's probably not an exact thing as I'm sure tricks can be done to make it look like more then 400 pixels across. And in any case it doesn't matter that much and the 3D will be very cool, but I must admit that I was hoping for a bit higher resolution, to make games like Pinball Hall of Fame possible/better, which is a game that benefitted hugely from HD graphics on the 360.

EDIT: and I'm also looking forward to almost everything else as well!

Oh yeah I forgot about the sword game in sports resort. That wasn't too bad. Hopefully they refined it. Being a first party title, they probably have.

I've had Epic Mickey on pre-order from Gamestop for more then a month now. :) Actually was just a way to get 25% off of something else when they had that coupon, but now I'm definitely keeping it on there. 25% off? Heck yeah!

He mentioned Pikmin 3 Forever ;) :
Miyamoto says he didn't want to show Pikmin this year because he was afraid it would be buried under the other games. It's being worked on.
And...
Next question talks about how he just beat Spirit Tracks on the plane and wants to know if the whip originated in Spirit Tracks or Skyward Sword. He gushes about the whip item at length.

Aonuma said the whip originated in Spirit Tracks, and that the same person is handling the mechanic in Skyward Sword.

Much of the staff of Spirit Tracks is working on Skyward Sword.

"Once that's done, we'll finish Pikmin," jokes Miyamoto.

Mother 3. Awesome game. Unlike Chrono Trigger. [the speaker ducks].

Miyamota also said something like, "Don't worry, we are working hard on Pikmin 3".

He was having problems due to the interference of the multitude of wireless connections going on at the time from the press. If you watch it, they mentioned it a few times.
In my opinion, Nintendo has redeemed itself from countless e3's of the past. Great solid announcements, great titles, and of course 3DS. I don't know if it was because Reggie was in the drivers seat this whole show, it was definitely Nintendo's E3 this year. They should walk out of E3 very confident and sell a shit-ton load of product in the next year. I was impressed. No flash, but alot of substance went a long way this year with Nintendo. It was all about the games.
The one thing really stood out is when Reggie mentioned the entry into 3D gaming on consoles. He hit it right on the head. The price you will pay for obtaining all the equipment for all that will go deep in your pocket. That is why 3DS will sell like mad.

If I get a 3DS, I want mine tethered to a booth babe.

I'm amused at how some people think Zelda's going to be terrible story-wise, graphics-wise, etc. based on a few minutes of gameplay in one area.

Slightly disappointed at no mention of license-transfer, Pikmin 3, and others, but if they didn't have time to show OCARINA OF TIME FOR 3DS, I think they can be forgiven for mentioning those at a later date.

Side note: the Black Wii is out, yet the demo stations are still white. Why not subtly promote your new colour?

They have white ones laying around because everybody wants the black one now. ;)

Also: I want a 3DS *now*. Stupid anticipation.
Searched this thread for 'guest', no hits. Nintendo opens up their press site every year during E3 (and sometimes other events) with a generic user/pass. If you are so inclined...

It isn't on the VC...

I am going to buy it on the Wii, just not at launch.

I may get it sooner if it has Wii Speak support though. Does anyone know about this?

At this rate its just Mother/Earthbound and Wrecking Crew left to get some attention?

How about releasing Devil World stateside on the Virtual Console.

I dont have much I admit*

Technically some other franchises too but mostly F-Zero.

You left out Mother.

Keep an eye out new Mother. Any day now.

I don't know how it could top 3, but I hope there's another Mother game in the future (Though, Itoi said he was done with it). And, I hope someone does the fantranslation for it quickly (because we know Nintendo won't release it stateside).

Hey - what happened to the Wii Remote with integrated WM+? Yeah, I know that was just a rumor, but it was certainly a worthy one. Oh well.
"Wireless interference," or it could just be that the wii isnt capable of true 1:1 motion.
Brad and Jeff from Giant Bomb played it and said they didn't have any of the problems Nintendo did during the press conference.

Well, almost every Wiimote they sell now includes Motion+ with it. So while not integrated, it's still in the package.

Since I don't own a Motion+, I'm guess you can't attach that to the Wiimote, then attach the Nunchcuk to the Motion+, right?

If that's the case, they should fix that. If not, then yay! Just watched the Nintendo Conference and yeah that definitely won this year's E3. No doubt about it.
