Nintendo E3 Conference Discussion - Controller Speaker - Always On - Yoshi's Island 2

Why does Sony and MS not have their own Reggie...he is pwning everyone else just with his speeches, and his elbows aren't sweating.

Thanks to Daroga and his Nintendo link, we finally have a great pic of the Wii classic controller:

BTW, the original pic is about three times the resolution and looks BEAUTIFUL!

I think its now pretty clear that this class controller will not be a "shell," as was previously mentioned by Nintendo.
I must say the Revolution is looking like more a tempting secondary system every day.
Secondary? For me, Wii's going to be my primary w/ DS comfortably next to it.

Did anyone else notice in the last zelda room where he's fighting all those monsters there were slowdowns when he slashed them? I'm not sure if thats video lag or it was an intentional effect.

I noticed it as well. I couldn't really tell, but it seemed intentional. It stopped when link went from one enemy to the next and no other time.

It's intentional. If you played windwaker it would be obvious.

Anyone else notice during one of the demos of people playing Excite Truck...there was some old crazy man sitting on the couch with them holding a steering wheel trying to play

Daroga...seriously, man...I love you. A LOT.

And damn you...I noticed the wrist strap, and forgot to mention it! I wanted to be first!

Any word yet on that classic controller? (i.e. will they package it in the system, or sell it seperate? My money's on the latter, sadly)

Daroga wins thread! thanks so much!

That classic controller is awesome...I'm so glad they put in real dual analog sticks instead of that c-stick crap.

Hey, love you too man. I'll keep throwing up any vids I deem worthy throughout E3.

For the wrist strap thing, you need to be faster on the draw my friend.

My thought is they'll sell it separately, but there will be a few free VC games included with it (like "5 free NES downloads with purchase!" sort of thing)

If they want people to use the VC, they better pack in the classic controller with the system. Or at worst, give you x free VC downloads with purchase of controller.

I'm still going with system + 2 controllers + classic controller (+ Wii Sports?) = $250.

That would definitely be worth the $250.

The pic of the classic controller shows it corded though, it would be great to have a cordless version.
If they packaged Wii Sports with the system, they would win.

WIN, I SAY!
Considering the rudimentary graphics, and the tech demo-ish feel, I can't see it being more than a budget title. And based on what they were talking about - something that everyone can enjoy and will get people involved in the system - they need to include it so everyone will be able to try it/see it.

My 360 is already my primary system. I don't own a DS anymore, I'm on the fence about getting a lite.

Has anyone said anything about the Wii/DS WiFi connectivity? I saw that typed up somewhere, not sure where, maybe a GameSpot article (too much news today!). I didn't hear it in the conference though.

http://wii.nintendo.com/hardware.html

Communication: Wii can communicate with the Internet even when the power is turned off. This WiiConnect24 service delivers a new surprise or game update, even if users do not play with Wii. Users can connect wirelessly using IEEE 802.11b/g, or with a USB 2.0 LAN adaptor. Wii also can communicate wirelessly with Nintendo DS.

Nothing more than that so far.

I'm definitely happy with Nintendo, but why does everyone say they "won" E3?

I honestly wasn't THAT impressed with the conference. Excite Trucks didn't look that cool, We got a few shots of Mario (and, sadly, very little in the way of details on HOW the controller is used in unique ways with him), and Smash Bros. wasn't even mentioned (something I was personally looking forward to).

Sony's conference was definitely worse (aside from MGS4), Microsoft's wasn't half bad...and Tennis certainly sold me on the system (not that I wasn't sold already...), but really, I'll wait until people get to try games tomorrow before I pass judgement.

Why's no one mentioned this yet? Sure, we know the N64's C buttons were primarily for the camera, which evolved into the C stick. However, some games used them for other purposes. So why the hell doesn't this classic controller have 6 face buttons?! RABBLE!!!

What? It uses the 2nd analog stick just like the Zelda compilations did on the Gamecube.
Nearly 500 posts in and I haven't seen anyone mention that it's Conference? For shame.
We've been blinded by Strell's, er... yeah.

For a system whose name is Wii, I think we can get somethings slide ;)

Well, I was thinking particularly of fighting games. I was going to specifically reference Killer Instinct Gold, but aside from the obvious point that it won't be on VC, I couldn't remember if it was a 6-button or 4-button game.

Ahh, yeah. The stick does leave some limitations in that regard. I dunno, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they cookup!

Hopefully you can customize the controller buttons. I'd much rather use Y and B to play NES games instead of the way the B and A buttons are placed.

This brings up a similar concern to me.. what about 3rd person games? How will camera control work? The traditional second stick that positions manual cameras is not present. The D-Pad on the wiimote doesn't seem like the best substitute.. maybe it'll work.

After finally watching the press conference, I was underwhelmed due to the hype that was built from other cags who had watched it. They did an excellent job in the presentation, espically the intro with miggy. But the wii games were not as promising as I hoped for. Granted I am very happy with my 360, and there showing last year was poor, and the games looked like shit for them at e3. Mario/yoshi games don't interest me. I was happy with the sports game, zelda, and a couple other games. I like the idea of ubisofts fps, but it it didn't look good. The ds stuff looked good, as did the light.

I tried to set the bar as high as I possibly could, and it was still exceeded regardless.

Looking good was not the point of the conference. Go to a store and play a demo whenever it occurs.

My thought was just to use the remote for that. If using the remote for swinging or something then hold a button when attacking? I dunno, something like that.

woohooo higher res videos. That red steel promo vid is beyond horrid though.... esp when that part he thinks gangster shooting a tv is so cool......... Animations seem less fluid in the presentation than the promo vid too. I doubt it's gonna happen but they really got to fix that hand model, it looks horrible :D

I guess these complaints about Red Steel's graphics explain why I'm not excited about the 360 or PS3.... I think the game looks great, but apparently I'm not jaded enough.

While the graphics look Gamecube 1.5ish, I am still very excited for the Wii....however no sign of smash brothers is a huge let down.

Actually, you know what would work fine for all VC games (including 6-button Genesis)? The N64 controller. (With the addition of Select and Home buttons, of course.) Maybe use one of those two-prong hybrid designs they had back in the day where both the D-pad and analog stick were both on the left side. Never tried one of those controllers though. Anybody here use it? Was it at all uncomfortable?

After remembering the existence of the PlanetGamecube forums, I looked at what they said, and someone made a good point that this pad seems more like a pad to make ports easier to play (It's a DualShock!) than a pad that would play all VC games.

In regards to the graphics, I'm sure things will be cleaned up. Launch is 7 months away. They were focusing on getting the gameplay to be flawless for E3 rather than the asthetics. Those'll come with time too. And in the end, will I notice that the hand model blows in the middle of a sword fight? I doubt it.

Yea I agree Daroga. It was most Metroid Prime 3 and H.A.M.M.E.R. that didn't look to hot graphically to me. Wii Sports had the perfect graphics for what they were trying to achieve IMO. If I get Wii on day one will depend on how this new Mario game turns out though, since SSB seems to be no where in site.
