I like having the discount coupon for OoT because I really wanted to buy the game digitally but I hate the idea of having to spend gold coins on the coupon. I'm assuming they are never stupid and run sales during coupon dates, do they?

It hasn't happened yet, but the sample size is a bit too small to know whether it's a posibility or not.

This has probably been asked, but do you get gold coins when you buy a discounted game using a coupon? Basically, I want to buy Mario Kart 8 30% coupon but I need the full 60 coins it normally would give out for a 59.99 purchase in order to get the Ocarina of Time coupon.

I don't think I've seen anybody here get one of the discounts and report back on that, so if you do get it, feel free to let us know.

Considering how the extra 10% off during the E3 sale worked like one of those coupons and you still got gold coins from those, you should.

Oh, this worked out for me. I bought MK8 during the spring sale, and that got me enough coins for the DLC reward. I just finished getting 3 stars in all the cups up to Mirror, haven't started 200cc. $42 for the full game and 1 DLC? S'alright.

Although, I can see how it can be disappointing for others that weren't late adopters like me.
Nah, Mario Kart 8 had the best promo when it was released. If you registered it on Club Nintendo you got a free full retail digital game. It was GREAT.

I forgot about that. Got all the games between my copy and then being able to trade three copies to Walmart for something like $60 each and there was a sale or something somewhere on top of that. Coins and games for days and I think all the game codes even counted towards DDP credit. CN sure had a lot of down swings but there were a few moments like that which were glorious.

The promos to redeem a system and game code to get a game were great too (even if our selection wasn't as big as EU) as were the redeem codes from certain games to get eShop credit.

That means you did not own it. It would show for the discount price if you did.
Thanks for the info. I feel like I did own the game at one point, however, I gave my Wii to my mother years ago. Because I didn't have it to transfer content when I got my Wii U, I assume all was lost.

Or not. It just seems like Super Mario RPG was something I bought as soon as it came to virtual console...

If you didn't transfer it, the license is still with your mom.

That Mario Kart 8 promo was insane. If I remember, there was a set of deals that you could take advantage of so I ended up getting MK 8, Pikmin 3, NSMB U, and LoZ Wind Waker for $60. Good times, gooooood times.

On my nintendo I got a notification saying 30 percent off a purchase for my birthday but when I click it it just takes me to the edit profile screen.  Anyone have insight on this?

Well, back during E3, they had that extra discount for My Nintendo members, and it was more of the same. It worked for some, but not for others.

"N" online infrastructure is about as bad as it gets, so any of you guys who got a B-Day offer might as well forget about it, as I'm sure it's something that will require way more work than is necessary to get working.

I'm sure this has been asked before but i can not find it so here goes.If i buy a digital game on eshop that normally costs 49.99 but its on sale for 19.99 will i get 20 gold coins or 50?

Shit. I screwed the pooch. I should have bought Mario Kart 8 before I bought the coupon for OoT 3D. Now I don't have enough gold coins to get Mario Kart. Mario Kart would have gave me the coins needed for the OoT coupon. WTF is wrong with me

You have two months before the reward is gone. Plenty of time.

This has probably been asked a million times already, so apologies...

Is Nintendo going to reboot the Virtual Console yet again for the NX and slowly trickle out games that have already been released on Wii... and Wii U... one at a time?  Again?  So we can all twiddle our thumbs and wait to buy Earthbound and Mario RPG and Super Mario World again and again?

They haven't announced it one way or another, but knowing them, you can count on it.

Honestly, considering their rich history, they could be making billions annually from VC games alone, but they do a half assed job there like they now do everything else. It's rather sad really, but it is what it is.

Do you see any news site with any concrete info on the NX?

Here is literally all we know about the NX:

- It will not use an optical drive.

- Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Dragon Quest XI, and Just Dance 2017 are confirmed to be coming to the system.

- It uses "industry-leading chips."

- The final name will not be NX.

That is literally everything we know about the system. How the eShop is setup, how it works with Nintendo Account, what the system looks like, what the controller looks like, how powerful it is, we know none of that.

Yea, the no optical drive was confirmed. Nintendo hasn't technically announced it will use flash carts, but GameStop confirmed that it's using physical media, so carts are pretty much 100% confirmed.

Yeah, no optical drive still hasn't been officially confirmed.

Pretty much all we know is there are three games officially planned for it so far. And that it will play games in some manner.

Any other "facts" about it are things journalists are pulling from random nintendo patents that have not been confirmed one way or another.

99.99999999% of the news out there for it is just speculation and rumor

Don't know when it happened, but I just noticed that the links on the rewards page of My Nintendo were updated. Every icon shows the price, platform, and either a gold or platinum background for good measure. Previously you had to click on a link to get some of that information.

This is one of the things I can't stand about Nintendo. Overpriced hardware, seldom discounted 1st party software. Yeah, I can put up with that. But then they pile his crap on top and so many other little things that sour the experience. It's like they don't even want our money sometimes.

Probably and then we'll all obediently pay the upgrade fee even though it winds up being fully BC.

I think what bugs me the most, even more than the upgrade fee, is the slow trickle of releases that have already been slowly trickled twice before. That and lack of cross-buy and even cross-save...

Given that one of Nintendo's stated goals is the ability to upload saves to the Cloud, there's a good chance you will be able to transfer your VC saves or the games themselves to the NX.

Nintendo hardware is not overpriced at all; at least not for long. The 3DS was at launch, but got a major price cut and now they're pretty dang cheap. So is memory for the systems, especially compared to what Sony did with the Vita.

I was speaking mostly to the fact that the Wii U debuted at $350 and throughout its entire life span it only saw a $50 price cut.  $300 is absolutely overpriced considering an Xbone can be had for $230 new sometimes with a several games/extra controller or gift card. That's kind of inexcusable for a machine a generation behind with few games, little 3rd party support, poor online infrastructure and games that see sales that utterly pale in comparison to PS4 and Xbone sales.  Nintendo is the most expensive gaming option on the market and they have the least to show for it.

The Wii U has been overpriced its entire life, unfortunately.
